Concentrated, full bodied, and very young. Still really enjoyable and easy drinking. Dark chocolate, gritty black fruit, mineral rich soil, truffle, and graphite. Sweet tannins and vanilla bean round off the palate.

Surprisingly unique in comparison to other Sine Qua Non wines. An unusual blend of 46% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre, 7% Petite Sirah, and 3% Touriga Nacional. Texturally more delicate than expected with a fresh palate of plums, blackberries, vanilla extract, and cassis liquor. Make no mistake, this is still a big, brooding, teeth staining wine. Opened all day with a full decant of 5 hours.

Nice deep golden straw color with a slight syrup quality to an otherwise effervescent mouthfeel. Crisp fruit and mineral dominate with backing notes of fresh brioche. At room temperature a slight mustiness is revealed in the nose and palate. Definitely a more precise wine when served ice cold.

Well past its prime. Cork was soaked and crumbled while being pulled. Light brown brick tint with dull flavors of strawberry, cola, eucalyptus, and spice. Slight tangy-sour note present on the nose and finish. Opened with no decant and drank over 2 hours (neither worsened or improved). On a positive note it still retains excellent mouthfeel. Would have been great 5 years ago.

Couldn’t resist opening up this small production Cabernet. The best descriptors are dense, black, and extracted. Glass and mouth staining black coloration with a thick viscosity that borders on syrupy. Soaring nose and palate dominated by super extracted blue/black fruit and vanilla extract. Supporting notes of lead, dusty earth, and cassis keep it from going over the top. Medium tannins that only are only apparent in the finish. Decanted 4 hours and drank over 6. Definitely a good product and exactly what you’d expect from a Russell Bevan made wine.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and a bit of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot shows excellent complexity and also massive tannins. Very rustic nose and palate (reminds me of an obscure Languedoc). Medium body with notes of barnyard, lead, raspberry, eucalyptus, chocolate covered blueberries, and minerals. A 5 hour decant only hinted at this wines future potential.

Sauterne like gold color and viscosity in the glass. Waxy oily texture with a balanced but not over the top palate of butterscotch, toasty oak, and mixed tropical fruits. Opened a few hours prior to drinking. Expensive but great summer wine. Ready now or in 5 years.

Drank from a magnum. Borderline syrupy texture with jammy palate of creamy blueberry, blackberry, olive brine, glycerin, and smoked meat. The 7% Grenache adds a nice candied red fruit quality. As expected the 16.1% ABV is present in nose, palate, and finish. Fortunately the high alcohol and intense flavor extraction blend perfectly. Ready straight out of the bottle but better with a decant.

Comprised of 80% cab franc and 20% merlot. A fragrant nose of vanilla and cherry translates to compact flavors of blueberry, blackberry, chocolate syrup. Tannic! Literally decanted all day. Reminds me of a Napa Cab barrell sample.

Decanted for a couple of hours. The wine faired better on its own. Noticeably alcoholic and clumsy at dinner but improved as the night went on. Thick bodied but not syrupy like other years. Very smokey with extracted sweet berry notes. I would have guessed it was the Syrah.

Plenty of depth and structure here. Still young with a moderate amount of tannins. I suspect it's closed off in some areas. Nonetheless it has a fragrant nose and silky smooth mouthfeel. Restrained flavors of kalamata olive brine, smoked meat, black fruit, menthol, and anise emerge. Much more elegant than expected. Give it another 2 years or be prepared to decant a least 5 hours.

Pitch black and deeply extracted blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry. A hefty amount of oak, vanilla, and anise round off the palate. Not for the faint of heart. This is a full throttle fruit bomb with elegance and complexity. Way too easy to drink on its own. It took a half days decant to fully reveal itself.

With only a two hour decant this one is not quite as ready as the 2012 Stien. Young and tannic but still open for business. Tons of bacon fat and roasted meat explode the palate and nose. Typical flavors of cassis, anise, and black fruit take a backseat for now. Open one only if you have two or three.

Much more approachable than the 2012 Stock. A 2 hour decant opened up the nose and palate to plenty of bright red fruit, candied cherry, cassis, strawberry, and Asian spices. Nice texture that will pick up more density with age (if you like that).

Drinking beautifully. All aspects in harmony. A fragrant bouquet of violets and backing spice is followed by concentrated flavors of black fruit, oak, and vanilla. Tannins and alcohol have fully integrated. I can't imagine a more prototypical example of how great aged Napa Cabernet can be. Great right out of the bottle but picked up some additional depth in the decanter.

Day 1- Gave a five hour decant. Young high quality cabernet. Nice notes of black fruit and cassis buried behind the tannins.
Day 2- Pumped and reopened. Ridiculously sugary and sweet. Not good given the pedigree of this operation.
Day 3- Sweetness has subdued but lip burning alcoholic heat has emerged.
Not sure the future if this wine.

Much less fruit forward than the Three Sisters from this same vintage. Great wine but lacking the minerality and tropical fruit I was really hoping for. Burnt sugar, toast, some oak, lemon and marzipan on the palate. A slight bite on the finish that a few more years will smooth out.

Unlike many 2012's that are drinking surprisingly well this is very much closed off and backwards. After a decanter staining 7 hour wait the wine took on a more viscous quality, concentration of flavors improved and the harsh acidity faded. Currently tannins and ripe red fruit dominate the palate and nose. Luscious flavors of cassis, blackberry compote, and anise are barely visible in the background. This is obviously well structured wine that needs cellar time.
