Consistent with previous bottle/tasting note from April, 2015. Impresses with its purity, freshness, focus, cleanliness, verve, and profile of lemon, apple, and chalky minerals. Recommended. Dinner at Piccolo.

13.5% alcohol. Moderately proportioned, surprisingly juicy on the front end, but showing rather rugged, structured, and gripping on the back end. Offers up a profile of purple fruits along with more savory suggestions of meat, olive, and a whole cluster derived spiciness. First of three bottles; I will likely wait a minimum of 3 years before opening another.

13.7% alcohol. Fragrant, modestly proportioned, softer textured, and nicely balanced with red cherry, raspberry, a subtle herbal/earthy note, and a pronounced and penetrating spiciness that really ratchets up the complexity. To my palate, this wine is very much open for business and in its drinking window. Popped, poured, and consumed over the course of about 90 minutes. Dinner at Meritage.

13.8% alcohol. The nose is just gorgeous - Fragrant, inviting, warming, complex, and distinctive with cranberry, red apple, strawberry preserves, orange peel, Asian spices, mahogany/barrel spices, and potpourri. In the mouth, round/softer textured with a tart, tangy, higher toned, and sappy orientation to the red fruited profile. Nice spine of acidity, with a persistent albeit slightly bitter finish. Reluctantly, I passed this year's R-M pinot mailer with 'cellar diversification' as my rationale/justification; This bottle is certainly making me regret and reconsider that decision going forward.

6/15/2015 - egh Likes this wine: 94 points

14.2% alcohol. This was firing on cylinders for me this evening. Inky, penetrating, nervy, spicy, brooding, dense, powerful, and complex with an aromatic and flavor combination of blackberry, cassis/fig, melted black licorice, pepper and a menthol/medicinal note. The wine's structure and stuffing is still apparent on the long, gripping, and saturating finish. Terrific wine that is certainly worth a look now if you are sitting on multiple bottles. Be aware this throws quite a bit of sediment.

Rounder, richer, riper, fleshier, and bigger boned than I was expecting given the producer with a profile of yellow citrus and orchard fruits, along with a mineral/wet stone note that adds interest and complexity.

Modestly proportioned, softer, approachable, and easy drinking with red fruit, rose petal, and spice notes. My only real knock on this wine is that it finishes a bit clipped/abrupt. Popped, poured, and consumed over the course of about 60 minutes at the Il Foro test dinner.

This needed a couple of hours in the decanter to really blossom. To the fuller side of medium bodied, expressive, and concentrated with a profile of juicy, vivid, pure, penetrating, and lip smacking dark red cherries and wild berries that are accentuated by oak, spice, soil, and pine notes. Fine grained tannins protrude on the persistent finish. 92 points, but seems to possess the stuffing/raw material for further development and improvement.

Light ruby colored with a brownish tinge around the edge. As the color suggests, this wine presents as maturing/at peak with red fruit, sweet spice, Asian spice, and meaty notes. Moderately proportioned, texturally smoothly and silky, nicely balanced, and seemingly structurally resolved. Recommendation to drink. Dinner at Restaurant Alma.

12.6% alcohol. Consumed over the course of two evenings. On night one, this was a bit elemental and out of sorts. On night two, this shows more integrated and focused with strawberry, watermelon, and a citrus/kiwi notes. Lighter to medium bodied with good acidity that really refreshes and invigorates the palate. Score is reflective of the wine's night two performance.

15.0% alcohol. Fuller bodied, concentrated, plush, ripe, and smooth with the tannins seemingly largely resolved. Offers up a profile of purple/black fruits, white pepper, violets, and an earthy/meaty suggestion. To me, a bit more complex and interesting aromatically than on the palate.

13.9% alcohol. My fourth (and final) bottle is consistent with prior showings. This continues to drink beautifully, offering up a profile of red cherry, raspberry, rhubarb, spice, and stem/wintergreen. Moderately proportioned but with good concentration and purity of fruit, and a tangy spine of acidity.

12.7% alcohol. Aromatically, this is fresh, clean, soft, and airy with strawberry, melon, pink grapefruit, and floral notes. The palate shows a bit more intensity, body, acidity, verve, and redder fruit tones than the nose would seemingly suggest, with that pink grapefruit note repeating. Easy drinking, interesting, stylish, and delicious.

5/17/2015 - egh Likes this wine: 92 points

14.3% alcohol. For a pinot, this pours noticeably deeper and darker in complexion. Aromatically, the wine offers up black and red cherry, raspberry, sandalwood, potpourri, and a rather pronounced oak derived coconut oil/vanilla bean quality that eventually blew off/integrated into the wine with about an hour of aeration. In the mouth, rich, concentrated, layered, and ripe with gobs of dark red fruits. Long, expansive, juicy, full, and slightly warming finish.

Juicy, smooth, and more medium than full bodied with purple and black fruited profile, along with a peppery spiciness. Very nice, and obviously a great value at ~$20, but following a bottle of 2009 Montafi Ranch from a couple of weeks ago, this came across as a bit simple and unassuming by comparison.

5/10/2015 - egh Likes this wine: 92 points

12.9% alcohol. This needed about two hours to open up, but once it did it drank beautifully. Aromatically cool and controlled, if somewhat reserved/understated, with black cherry, currant, violet, spice, and soil/damp forest notes. In the mouth, modestly proportioned with a decidedly cool, dry, and tart complexion to the fruit. The acidity serves to give the fruit a redder, brighter tone, along with citrus top note. Gentle, caressing, moderate length finish.

12.9% alcohol. Texturally leaner/linear with a rather unique CA chard aromatic and flavor profile of citrus peel, lemon ice, saline/sea breeze, chalk, and minerals. For me, what impresses most about this wine is its laser like spine of acidity, which really gives the wine cut, energy, definition, and drive/thrust. For what it is worth, unlike some other CT notes, I did not pick up any overt creaminess or oak notes. Lovely wine.

My third bottle of 2014 Rosé in the past week or so. Compared to the two that preceded it (Commanderie de la Bargemone and Domaine de Fontsainte Corbières), this shows bigger proportions, a redder complexion to the fruit, and a drier orientation with a subtle spice/herbaceous quality lurking behind a core of maraschino cherry, light cranberry, and white flowers. Not surprisingly, like the other examples, this too comes across as crisp, fresh, fun, and approachable.
