2/2/2023 - Momus99 wrote: 93 pointsHad at Met Grill with brief decant. Didn’t disappoint-Really starting to open up with still mostly primary flavors. Tannins are actually more prominent than the previous bottle. Still has a pronounced chocolate more (not unpleasant). Would guess this has a long life ahead. Great accompaniment to steak. |

12/30/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 88 pointsDidn’t take detailed tasting notes. A good, solid, well-made wine but not justifying the stratospheric price. Good Tempranillo fruit oaked to within an inch of its life, but overall pleasant to drink. Still holding up wire well after 10 years. |

12/30/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 90 pointsVery balanced and an all-round high quality brut. Reminiscent of Veuve Clicquot non-vintage and other NV large-production Champagne houses that maintain a high level of quality. |

2021 Luca Ferraris Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato Clàsicmore |
12/19/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 88 points$25 or so at Mondo Vino. My first Ruché. An interesting wine. Popped and poured. Transparent dark red. On the nose, I get raspberries and black pepper, with some bubblegum. Same on the palate plus good acidity to keep everything in balance. Tannins are prominent though fine in texture. Label says 15% alcohol though it doesn’t taste like it-No booziness. Altogether a pleasant wine, light in flavor palate and body. Not really sure what I’d pair it with though Wikipedia says it’s traditionally paired with slow-braised beef. |

11/29/2022 - Momus99 wrote: 93 pointsTasted at the winery along with the 2018 Sonoma Coast pinot. Both were among the best new world PN I've had. Didn't take detailed notes at the time but the sense memory is strong. A bit more fruit-driven and less austere than the Sonoma Coast pinot, but I found the two equally enjoyable. Deeply extracted but not jammy or overly fruit-driven at all. Long finish. |

Really delicious Pinot with an honest, rustic feel (maybe due to pleasantly rough tannins and some barnyard) but still very precise. Deeply extracted but not jammy or overly fruit-driven at all; Everything was nicely balanced. Definitely among the best new world PN I've had: Serious juice. |

2018 Melville Syrah EstateSta. Rita Hills more |
11/20/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 91 pointsVery enjoyable wine, and a quite decent value at $30. Coravined over 2 nights. On nose and palate the flavors are very clean and distinct (i.e. separable). Fruit dominant but not in a gloopy, overly extracted way. Very well balanced overall with moderate tannins and length. An earthy/dusty note on the nose but no savory notes (like roast meat) as one gets with Syrah sometimes. Drinking wel mot but feels like it has at least a couple of years of stuffing in it. Glad I got 4 bottles! |

11/3/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 90 pointsReally like this. Thought I detected so slight cork taint so stuck some saran wrap in the glass which seemed to do the trick. The most surprising thing about this wine is its youthfulness. It seems more like a 4-5 year-old cab than a 10 year old one. Dark red with no hint of bricking; Pretty standard Cabernet Sauvignon nose with some predominance of chocolates notes. On the palate, some tannins persist, and the overall balance is good with a fairly long finish. I think this is pretty high quality Napa cab. |

10/22/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 91 pointsA very enjoyable example of New World Pinot noir. Far from the typical Cali PN black Cherry gloop, though would never be mistaken for Burgundy. Remarkably pale in color. Nose is a complex mixture of bing cherries, black tea, rose petals, and hints of white pepper. Same on palate plus some savory notes. Palate is well-balanced, with fairly long finish, and fine tannins. A very well made wine, verging on profound. A reasonable, though not crazy, QPR at $40. |

10/20/2022 - Momus99 wrote: 86 pointsKind of disappointing…Not a lot of balance. Rather less tannic than I’d expect. Kind of “gloopy” (hard to explain but murky dark fruits without a lot of freshness). A bit too much oak as well. |

10/7/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 89 pointsI have had a few wines from Chianti Colli Senesi before and had found them all disappointing. This is different-Very good juice! Felsina seems to maintain high standards across their entire line of cuvees. |

9/17/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is drinking beautifully right now and I’m sad it’s my last bottle. Everything is in balance. Dark red with no bricking. Nose of bing cherries and old leather. Palate is very balanced, with a long finish. Tannins are still present though fading. Tons of structure and probably will be good for 10+ more years. |

9/9/2022 - Momus99 Likes this wine: 90 pointsA good example of Amarone. Carries its 16% alcohol reasonably gracefully. Highly extracted but not overpowering nor overly sweet as some Amarones can be-Overall things are in balance. Tannins are fading. Would drink soon. |

9/3/2022 - Momus99 Does not like this wine: 83 pointsTasted freshly opened bottle at McCarthy & Schiering. Expected to love it but found it just to clean. Maybe insufficient acidity to balance the sugar? Whatever reason, I poured my taste out after a couple of sips. |
