The 90 La Tache dinner also 05 Coche CC, 88 Krug and 01 Rousseau CSJ (Decanter restaurant, St. Regis): Very youthful slightly masculine expression which is quite different from the 01 Rousseau Chambertin which was mostly tertiary and subtle. Most black fruit driven, strong note of spearmint, damp forest floor, Asian medicine, mushroom and earth. Excellent concentration, earth black fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity, nicely integrated tannins and long finish. This particular bottle is very youthful and will require another five to ten years of cellaring to reach the peak which is quite surprisingly in lieu of how well the Chambertin was drinking recently. Nevertheless very enjoyable.

Pop and pour, the cork is perfectly moist and elastic. Quick sniff at the bottle, the wine seems correct. A small pour to a Zalto burgundy, I am speechless and becoming very emotional. The nose is simply perfect, beguiling interplay of unbelievably complex tertiary notes and incredibly explosive perfectly ripe hedonistic pinot fruit. Everything that you look for in a perfect Burgundy is present in abundance, decadent black fruits, Vosne spices, sous bois, truffle, cornucopia of flowers, roasted coffee beans, licorice, liquid smoke, stem, perfume and incense to name a few. The palate is also perfect, intense, subtle, precise, fresh and energetic all at the same time. It is certainly ripe reflecting the 90 vintage but still remains perfectly fresh, precise and balanced. The finish is never ending. This is perfect now and will remain perfect at least for the rest of my life, transforming like the monumental 62. Truly an emotional and spiritually uplifting experience. From the same batch as the last bottle drank last year.

Pop and pour, the nose is unyielding, a bit of lemon curd, coconut as Paul aptly describes and lanoline. Incredible concentration yet very linear as the fruit is beautifully layered, reminds me the weightlessness of young D’Yquem, strong presence of mineral and acidity and seamless finish. We decant the wine and drank over four hours. The nose opens up a bit displaying some white fruits but it remains pretty coiled. Oh well, ces’t la vie! Fortunately the next wine more than compensates by providing one of the most emotional wine drinking experience of my life.

Very oxidative nose but quite fresh overall expression, brioche, smoke, tart tatin, sweet spices and slightly oxidize granny smith. Excellent concentration, very ripe yellow fruit driven palate impression, abundant fine mousse, bright acidity and strong presence of mineral and very long sweet finish. It is a fully mature big scale vintage Krug with very ripe fruits, bright acidity and mineral. Still long life ahead but drinking beautifully.

The ripeness of 2012 expressed as a hint of coffee bean, pure and cool red fruits, strawberry, raspberry, a hint of vosne spices, white pepper and mineral. Very precise and pure, cool red fruit driven palate impression, good acidity, noticeable but non-obtrusive tannins and long clean mineral driven finish. Will reach the peak in another ten to fifteen years.

Expressive nose displaying mango, papaya, yellow peach, crème brulee and tea. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered fruits, weightless, bright acidity and love long finish. Great D’Yquem that is drinking incredibly well.

Very precise and lean palate, medium acidity, still noticeable tannins that are not bothersome and seamless long finish that ended with Vosne spice. A great example of perfectly mature Burgundy.

Slightly stewed intense red fruits, tomato, cherry, strawberry rhubarb pie, a hint of Asian spice, sautéed mushroom and earth. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered fruits, dense sweet and sour stewed red fruit driven palate impression, strong earthy impression, bright acidity, nicely integrated tannins and lovely long finish. Really interesting to compare with the 93 as this was the bigger wine with more concentrated and layered fruits where the 93 displayed the intoxicating pure 93 nose that we all love. Both were really enjoyable but I preferred the 93 slightly for the nose.

Excellent concentration, despite being fat and round, bright acidity and strong mineral presence provided the nice precision and balance. Interestingly, some resemblance to the Lafon version where the Perrieres was closer to the Coche version with a strong matchstick/gun flint note. It is drinking nicely in very youthful way.

If you like cult cab, I highly recommend this wine. Not for everyone.
