2012 Liquid Farm Chardonnay Four

Sta. Rita Hills more

8/1/2015 - clayfu wrote: NR

A bigger riper style that I'm familiar with from Liquid Farm. I usually think a bit more precise and acidic, but this one was round sweet fruit and a bit more forward with a bracing of oak and a touch creamy on the finish.

2012 Rhys Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard

Santa Cruz Mountains more

8/1/2015 - clayfu wrote: NR

Really needed to open up, initially a bit closed, but after about ten minutes in the glass the palate rounded out, the nose opened up to flowers and fruit. acidity started to pick up and the flavors started to build on itself.

I was surprised how forward and open this wine was. It was just opulent fruit and power. Just roaring right out the gate.

Smoky leather on the nose, far more tannic than the Uccelliera. Rustic, meaty on the palate.

I thought this was a really cool wine, some of the other attendees complained it was "off" but it was just funk on the palate. It was meaty, spicy, herbal and had zest and pop to it and some funk.

Similar to the Serena that it was through off that herbal funk on the palate, but this was a bit fruitier in profile, also pretty damn tasty but on the back end a bit more tannic.

2008 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne

Syrah more

Got a pour right when it was popped and also about a hour in. Tons of white pepper, dark fruit and cigar just blast out of the glass onto the nose. LOVE the smell from these Guigal Trio wines and especially the Lala. On the palate it's a bit thin on the P&P but about a hour in it really picks up concentration, tons of acidity, just loads of dark fruit and roasted meat. If you open this, I highly recommend giving it a couple hours of air, the palate really opens up with time.

really clean and pure on the pop and pour. Almost ethereal on the palate. The juicy lemon and citrus just glides on the palate and braced with acidity. Very nice

needs a couple of hours of air to really fill out. It's clean and pure in the beginning but needed to open up to expand on the palate.

Structured and dense. Still tannin. Took about 2 hours to really shed some of the tannin. Has dark fruit. Hoping the fruit outlives the tannins.

My initial guess was an early 70s 1er cru from the cote de beaune. It had a nose filled with tea leaves, earth and red fruit. Still had a touch of freshness to it that made me think it was far younger than it was but it had this building rustic note on the back end that gave off a little braised meat. It was fully integrated on the palate, delicate and soft with still enough sweet red fruit to enjoy. I wish I inquired a bit more on the history of the bottle as part of me thinks it might be a reconditioned bottle at some point due to that lingering bright fruit.

Wine is killing it right now. Slow oxed for about 6 hours. Just drinking wonderfully, slipped it into a dujac clos de la roche flight and it completely stood its own. The aromatics were incredible.

A bit sweet on the pop and pour, mellows out the sweetness of the fruit after 3 hours of being opened (slow ox) and it picks up tannins and texture about 5 hours in.
