Decanted 1 hr, not a great showing for th PS tonight, plenty rich, ripe, big and extracted but a bit one dimensional, with some black & blue fruit, the wood seemed to dominate especially towarded the later glasses. Rustic but simple! Paired decently with prime charcoal grilled NY strips steaks.

This was a very nice showing, rich, ripe and extracted of course, but balanced. Taste nothing like the Zin's and Zin blends that I grew up on but absolutely a joy to drink none the less.

A mineral/terroir driven Sancerre, loaded with an assortment of stone, slate, clay, marble, with just a hint of lemon, kiwi and lime. Paired with BLT, made with thin slices of sweet onion and of course thick slices of ripe home grown Hanover tomatoes, a very nice match. Yum!

PNP, I love Peking Duck and am always trying to find a great wine pairing for this dish, we have a restaurant a couple miles from our house that makes a very good duck and they deliver. This WR was an excellent pairing, with its rich, thick, ripe , sweet blackberry, plum, currants and just a hint of spice, all this fruit paired nicely with the richness of the duck and the sweetness of the plum sauce. Very good!

Nice showing tonight, rich, ripe, dark, particularly considering this supposed to be PN, well whatever it is it is tasty, totally in the Caymus style. Plenty of ripe dark plum, thick dark currant, cassis & cherries, not sure this ever had any noticeable tannins, but they are fully integrated and this wine is surviving on all it's intense fruit, drink up while it is still there.

Decanted 1hr, last bottle of 4, red plum, cherry, some earth/mushrooms, fully integrated, less complexity than privious bottles. This bottle is certainly on the backend of it's drinking window, nothing wrong with the quality, just a bit tired, 88 for me is a very good score. I think it's worth noting that this bottle has not moved (same spot) from a 53 degree environment for over 10 years. Paired with homemade beef Wellington, the Wellington overwhelmed this wine!

I remember not that many years ago you could get these for around $5, I paid $7 for this on sale. One of the reason I purchased this is because I love these young, fresh and cold. This one was a very nice example of a rose fairly priced, with simple raspberry, strawberry and just a hint of cherry. This rose is plenty dry and refreshing. Drink over the remaining months of summer!

Amazing how well this and for that matter all of the wines from Orin Swift drink so well young, rich, unique, style, with loads of ripe fruit, with little acidity, structure or tannins. Probably will drink well for several more years but why wait!

2011 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley more

7/5/2015 - wineshaman wrote: 90 points

The 2011 Napa cabernet vintage IMO has the distinction of being the worst vintage since the 2000 vintage. Caymus seams to defy the typical perspective of great vintages, versus lesser vintages, with the lack of structure compared to lesser vintages. The 2011 vintage is classic by Caymus standards, koolaid color, rich, sweet, blackberry, dark plum, intense, more structured than most 2011's, decent balanced, yet simple. Paired amazingly with BBQ Briskit, if you could imagine!
