7/13/2023 - thewineoceros wrote: 90 pointsIf you have any of this give it a bit of air. The nose has a lovely peachy fresh honey smell, whilst the palate is more unctuous but fresh and refreshing. Not as complex as the tunnel or voge wines, but still very enjoyable and a bargain to boot. Ltd supply. |

6/23/2023 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 94 pointsChecking in on this again at its nearly 17th birthday. Nose is deep raspberry with a chocolate and plummyness. No real tertiary flavour yet. Just smells classy and the smell lingers long after you take your nose out of the glass - Radiance is the word that keeps leaping out of my mind. The palate is all velvet, tannins are sleek and juicy, flavour is rich yet balanced, still with that clinet decadence, and oh so moreish. Really great place at mo. Bought this back in the day when good wine was affordable and all you needed was a bit of patience. Looking forward to following its progress. If you have a bottle, take a few hours to savour and get to know it. |

5/13/2023 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 90 pointsFresh red berries, elegant nose. All about the fizzing fruit. Tastes delightful very crisp and refreshing, light on tannin, but so easy to enjoy and every mouthfull has a spring and satisfying explosion of flavour. Really good stuff. |

4/16/2023 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 91 pointsLovely perfumed nose of red fruit, cedar and sandalwood. Plush and aromatic, and slightly exotic perhaps. Had this open for 24hrs and it has added a bit more complexity on day 2. Palate is full of fruit and more of the exotic spices come through too. Very tasty! Tannins work perfectly with the acidity. Drinkable and good value. In a good place for enjoying right now. I will test again in future. Easily has years left if you want to keep. |

3/14/2023 - thewineoceros wrote: 92 pointsJust entering first level drinking window IMO. Lovely nose, that has good complexity, yet has not quite started to shift to that next level. Surprisingly young for 13/14 years old. Definitely one to stick by for a few years yet. Try again in 2028 |

2012 Pierre Gonon St. JosephSyrah more |
3/2/2023 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis is absolutely classic Syrah. I have loved this wine for many years and sadly it seems the world has caught up and the price has ballooned to an incredible high, making it out of reach these days. Which makes this bottle all the better. The 2012 is in a great place, all herbs, pepper, spice, olive and tapenade. Aromas and flavours are super pure and well integrated with the structure which is perfectly Balanced. Lovely finish which is a bit chewy (which I also like) and has a gentle bite that makes you want more. Refreshing and comforting at the same time. A real pleasure! |

1/5/2023 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 92 pointsSums up 2012 when done well. Classic bdx notes, with a rich nose, pencil lead, tobacco, cedar all in all a perfectly drinkable juice. Not overly complex, yet still classy. Will definitely get better with age. |

9/19/2022 - thewineoceros wrote: 93 pointsPaling rim with a strong ruby core, translucent and light. Delicate nose, hinting of flowers 🌸 with a touch of darker fruits. Fresh with a savoury edge the palate is smooth with really subtle grippyness to give a nice bite, and a solid medium finish. Nicely made wine. Classy probably sums this up. Drinking nicely, yet can keep too. |

2012 Château Lafon-RochetSt. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more |
9/14/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 91 pointsStill has a deep ruby hue, like most ‘12s’ I have tried. Certainly on the savoury edge with a nose that has minerality, a touch of black currant and a definite pencil note, comes through after a few hours. Has more layers on day 2 and works very well with a chicken a roast vegetable dish (the caramelised greens working brilliantly in tandem with the Lafon) I really enjoyed this, and it was a wine that you felt that was in an good place. It’s not one to worry about if you are drinking too young. Plus pretty good value all said. Enjoy with food! |

9/10/2022 - thewineoceros wrote: 91 pointsNeeds a big decant, but full of vibrancy and energy. Rich red and black fruit on the nose. Plenty of power and freshness. I would hold these for a few years. It is drinkable with a fine bit of tannic and acidity, however I would hold off for a bit to achieve a bit more integration and future pleasure. |

2015 Jean-Pierre Guyon Pinot Noir Bourgognemore |
9/10/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 90 pointsLight nose of fresh cherries and earth, with a touch of cola. The palate has lovely texture. Really delicate and juicy. Wine is really well balanced even though not overly complex. However that is not what is being looked for here. Entry level Pinot, made exquisitely and just a really nice drop of Bourgogne. Score seems a little low, but that should not detract from the quality in the glass. I could drink these forever. No rush on these at all. Hold or drink. |

6/5/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: NRAs others have said, this is in a wonderful place right now. Glossy slightly lightening colour. Has subtle flavour developing on the nose. Nice fruit but with some more complexity coming through too in the shape of cedar, leather and just depth. Very enticing. The palate is gorgeous. Tannins are at perfect point, soft, silky but still a touch of bite at the end. Impeccable acidity witha good medium finish. Really enjoying this! Will continue to update during the evening |

5/15/2022 - thewineoceros wrote: 90 pointsSubtle, slightly reticent nose, with just hints of cherry and cola, and maybe a touch of menthol. Smooth palate, tannins are nicely resolved. Easy to drink now, as can’t really see this evolving too much more. Nice steady wine. Better with food. |

2015 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
5/9/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 93 pointsHaving last had a 2004 from this producer, I suspected that this would be too young, however wanted to test all the same. Pleased to say this was young, yet drank superbly with dinner! Powerful nose of cherry, and red fruits with a cedar hint, delicious texture and fine grained tannins. This will certainly last and keep improving with age. I did enjoy tasting it at this age and will probably dip in again in another few years of so. Relative Bargain too. |

4/16/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 90 pointsCheck in On this over a teriyaki beef salad. Colour is starting to lighten noticeably since my last bottle just under a yr ago. Has a good nose of dark berries and red fruit. Palate is soft, juicy and with enough structure to keep it keen. This is in a good place right now and is worth dipping into if you can. Nothing wildly complex, but classy all the same. Tastes like St Estephe and is a real bargain for 2016. Also one of the more approachable wines I have had from that yr. enjoyable! |

1/22/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 92 pointsStunning nose of cigar box, cedar and black fruit. Full Juicy fruity palate, lovely balance. Nice acidity that brings the best from the fruit and brings a nice tension with each taste. Really enjoying this and drinking very well now. Good intro to the house style of Ducru. Good value to boot and highlights the value to be found in 2012. In my view, right now, the most approachable vintage of the last decade. Seek out if you can 🍷 |

1/15/2022 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 92 pointsPale straw, with a reductive nose featuring bitter lemons, touch of crème brûlée, wild yeasty wisps and honeyed white fruit. On the palate lovely texture, fresh and full of minerals with hints of more honeyed lemons. Supported by a nice core of acidity and a lovely 30second finish. Good value burg 👍 |

10/9/2021 - thewineoceros Likes this wine: 92 pointsDelightful nose of fruitcake and a slightly menthol note. Unctuous mouthful of delicious red and blue fruits, wrapped in cashmere tannins, which are in a wonderful place right now. Nice bight on the 45 sec finish. The few 06 Pomerols I have tried are all on top form, and still have good legs in them if you want to keep in your cellar. |
