Damn fine impression of a Gevrey-Chambertin. Sweet strawberry and cherries, black tea, and spices. Still bright and alive, but the wine was all about texture. Silk.

Lovely nose, lush palate, solid right from opening. Quite lovely wine, especially at this price point.

The 2007 vintage is starting to age well. The fruit is starting to take second fiddle to sandlewood, mushroom, and earth. Beautiful texture and long finish.

Still very fresh and alive, with great ripe fruits. From some of the other extended tirage wines, I was expecting more autolytic character, but not matter, it was yummy.

Peaking now and throwing a heck of a sediment. The fruit is starting to fade and the secondary flavors are good, but not as exciting as when the wine was young.

Excellent structure and balance. Really top notch, and I wish I could get some 2012 as that was an even better Chardonnay vintage.

Disappointing. I love Alban and am a big fan of the Roussanne. This was dominated by the heat of the alcohol, which masked the lovely floral notes. Still very good, but I had hoped for more.

I suspect it's in a dumb phase right now. Awesomely concentrated and with ripe fruit, but showing hot and with aromatics that are not well integrated.

Alsace Grand Cru Gewürztraminer more

It's in a bit of an odd state where the fruit is just starting to fade a bit and the tertiary flavors are just beginning. If you have any, I'd let it rest another 2 years or so to gain complexity. That being said, it was just beautiful. The texture was lush, the sugar was a bit too obvious, but the finish was endless.

Used it for cooking a terrific pot roast. The taste had a touch too much residual sugar for my palate. I much prefer the power of Drops of Jupiter

Has really developed since purchased at the tasting room. The tannins have gotten finer and the acid is still bright, setting off the dark fruits and garrigue. Delicious.

Still tight as a drum. Slight bretty notw added to the complexity of an otherwise still monolithic syrah. It's got a lot to give, but needs 3 more years.

The only bottle out of 10 Scholiums that wasn't heavily infected with bacteria. Chewy, dense, great ripeness. It suffered a little in the complexity department and some dirty flavors after an hour of being opened, but this one is the best.

Highest possible score for a flawed wine. And they do it on purpose, with 9 of 10 bottles showing microbial instability. Black pepper and rotting lettuces. Abe Schoener, please use some sulphur. There is no nobility in making wine that sucks.

The max score for a wine with major flaws. I rate it instead of pressing the flawed button because 9 of 10 bottles were flawed, clearly on purpose. It was actually putrified. Abe Schoener, if you don't want to use sulfur, you can use ultraviolet light. At least wash your hands.

For more money than Montelena and Shafer Red Shoulder, I was expecting something more. As least it wasn't tainted by bacterial infection like the other whites. However, the only flavors I got were diacetyl related - buttered waffles - and that's considered a flaw by many. In the final analysis, it's similar to a Napa Chard from the mis 1980s.

Score of 75 and above are reserved for wine free of major faults. Most producers try to hide faults, but this wine shows it proudly, and it's awful. Raw pork, apricots, pineapple, elder flower, mushrooms, some tannin from skins and seeds.

The real problem is the raw pork. Microbial contamination.

Mushroom, flint, apples and cheese on the nose. Cheese, dirty feet, raw pumpkin, and apricot on the palate. Dirty. Very dirty. Despite the fairly high acid, this is a microbial timebomb.
