2021 Peay Vineyards Roussanne/Marsanne EstateSonoma Coast White Rhone Blend more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 95 pointsI love these. They make like 35 cases maybe every other year so much appreciation to the Peay team for continuing to spend time on it. They can't possibly make any money off of this effort so its a labor of love. Well worth trying if you can find it. I get my maximum allocation every time its offered. |

2021 Lewis Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valleymore |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery consistent. A wonderful bottle of Oakey/buttery Chardonnay. If that is your thing, this is one of the best out there. It maintains some vibrancy even with that. Not really the aging type of wine I'd say, so fully drinkable now. |

2021 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Chardonnay ArthurDundee Hills more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsnice straw color, lively aroma and flavor, good fruit comes out after a little time in the glass, minimalist intervention overall. very good. |

2021 Peay Vineyards Viognier EstateWest Sonoma Coast more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsLove the Peay Viognier. Really unlike any other wine. Its nominally a Northern Rhone white but its not so much so that you would say that if you didn't know what it was. I like obscure, unique whites and this fits the bill. |

2019 Grgich Hills Chardonnay Blue BeretRutherford more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 92 pointsThe Blue Beret is their reserve Chardonnay essentially. Its good but not substantively different from their usual estate chardonnay. That said, it wasn't a whole lot more expensive either, so not really sure what they were going for? Overall, its an enjoyable Napa Chardonnay with some freshness but some background oak/butter as well. It works. If you are trying to drink Chardonnay with both fresh and fruit forward types along with oaky/buttery types of people in the group, this should satisfy everybody. |

2009 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Le MontChenin Blanc more |
12/31/2023 - Chris wrote: 89 pointsWasn't really our thing. I think the wine was what it was supposed to be but overwhelming oily quality, very dark yellow color. Tried to pair it with heavy sauce shellfish dish but it didn't really work out. |

NV Pierre Paillard Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Les ParcellesChampagne Blend more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 95 pointsMy favorite Champagne. Loads of brioche creates a unique and fantastic profile. If you are looking for clean and vibrant, this is not it. If you are looking for top notch, very flavorful, heavier style, this is phenomenal stuff. Great QPR as well at <$50. |

2016 Peay Vineyards Syrah Les TitansSonoma Coast more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 92 pointsRacy, good fruit, light tannins, overall good but like others, I don't see a typical Syrah here. Overall another great effort from Peay but I like the La Bruma bottlings better. |

2016 Peay Vineyards Syrah La BrumaSonoma Coast more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 98 pointsThis bottle was fantastic. Lovely color, gorgeous aroma, long finish, all the qualities you would want. After drinking a few of the Titans and La Brumas, I'm finding that I really like the La Bruma profile better. These bottles were wound pretty tight at first but now at 7 years on, they are starting to really sing. |

2020 Cristom Pinot NoirWillamette Valley more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis "fire wine" has been a real treat from my perspective. They combined all their fruit in 2020, declassified everything and just called it "Willamette Valley" then chose to sell it for 75% off their typical single vineyard prices. You can taste the smoke for sure but it really lends a new and unique quality to the wine. Pair it with food as if it were say a Syrah instead of a Pinot and you'll be rewarded. I managed to find two cases of this one and already polished off one of them. |

2016 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad ReserveWillamette Valley more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 91 pointsDark, which I usually don't like, deep flavor, aromatic, maybe would be better in a few years. I have one left so I'm going to save it for a while and see where it goes. |

2013 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad ReserveWillamette Valley more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 97 pointsThese wines are not priced well. That said, I did think this wine was fantastic. 10 years old and tasted like an aged Burgundy. Gorgeous blood red color, far exceeded expectations. The DS wines obviously age very well so if you splurge on them, don't touch them for a long time. |

2019 Raen Winery Pinot Noir Sea FieldFort Ross - Seaview more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsI enjoyed this bottle much more than my previous (and first) one. Lovely light color with tart cherries. Longer finish that I expected based on my last bottle. Overall very nice. I'm probably drinking these too young so I'm going to save my last bottle for a few more years and see where it ends up. I can't help comparing California coastal AVA wines to Peay Scallop Shelf, which I consider my benchmark, and so far, this wine is not as good but quite a bit more money. Overall though, it is a good offering. The coastal CA pinots are much better than the overripe inland variety. |

2019 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir GuadalupeDundee Hills more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 96 pointsBlood red, gorgeous aroma, deep, excellent overall. My wife loves these Guadalupe bottles and the very interesting art on the label adds to the overall appeal of the experience. None of the BF wines are cheap but they are worth the splurge if you have the opportunity. |

2017 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir Beaux Frères VineyardRibbon Ridge more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 96 pointsReally enjoying these. Darker color but lighter weight, nice nose, not deep but has a long finish. I get a typical BF profile here. I think the Ribbon Ridge wines are some of the best in the Willamette Valley. |

2016 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Elanus EstateSonoma Coast more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsColor and aroma are excellent, tartness comes through, complex, short finish. This wine seems to be aging well. I'm going to keep the last two and see what happens longer term. I've had some 10+ year old Scallop Shelf and that was worth the wait. In theory this should be even better over time. |

2018 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Scallop Shelf EstateSonoma Coast more |
12/31/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 93 pointsSolid effort. Great profile as always. These vines are something like 20 years old now so there have been nuanced changes over the years but the main profile has remained very consistent. This has been my favorite wine for a long time and they've done nothing to screw that up! |

2015 Robert Keenan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Spring Mountain Districtmore |
12/30/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsExcellent mountain cab. Drinking well now. Inky dark, deep, velvety, everything you want in a mountain cab. Decant it and let it linger in the glass over a couple hours for peak effect. |

2014 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon SignatureNapa Valley more |
12/30/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsdeep red color, lovely aroma, dark flavor and texture, very nice. Everything you want in a mountain cab. About 70% less than their top tier Pritchard Hill bottling. Not quite there but pretty darn close for a lot less money. A good compromise. |

2014 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Rio SordoNebbiolo more |
12/30/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsexcellent wine. tasted side by side with the PdB standard bottling and both were awesome. This one is 2x price though so QPR on the std. bottle is much higher. The reservas are a bit more nuanced but tough to justify the price. |

2014 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva PoraNebbiolo more |
12/30/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 93 pointsGreat wine but drank side by side with the standard PdB bottling (albeit from 2015, not 2014) and at half the price, I'd recommend that over this reserva. I'm glad I tried the Pora though, just to see how good PdB could make a wine. Great stuff. |

2015 Produttori del Barbaresco BarbarescoNebbiolo more |
12/30/2023 - Chris Likes this wine: 94 pointsExcellent as always and one of the best QPRs anywhere. Drank side by side with a 2014 Pora and Rio Sordo. Although not the same vintage, wanted some comparison given the 2x price point of the reservas. Scored them all 93-94 but frankly the standard bottling is basically just as good and half the price so highly recommend. Overall, this is a top notch producer with excellent product all around. |
