Oak water with blackcherry and berry fruits and a tiny touch of peppery spice. More of the same on the palate with fully resolved tannins. Okay.

About a year ago I gave my last bottle to some friends and they pulled it out last night for us to have as a little Monday night treat. Honey over quite peachy fruit with touches of apple, fresh cut grass, butter, slight cream and toast. Very pleasant, light and quite quaffable but no real acidity. Interesting.

Decanted. Quite oak water on the nose; vanilla, spice, underpinned by coconut and black cherry and berry. Also a slight oxidative note. On the palate more of the same including that oxidative element. It's quite juicy but the oak is the most dominant factor underpinned by black notes. The tannins are fully resolved. Done it's dash I'd say.
Footnote: I was a touch disappointed and left the rest of the wine (about 200ml) in the decanter over night. In the morning before I threw it down the sink I had a sniff and almost couldn't believe my nose...the oak element had almost entirely dissipated almost completely revealing blackberry, black pepper, a menthol note, touches of rhubarb and chocolate. I took a punt on trying it and it was superb. Rich and velvety textured with the same flavours as those on the nose. What a turnaround! On this basis I think I'll have to revise my drinking window.

Perfumed cherry and almost plum, rich, spice, earth and leather. Actually this is just plain splendid other than a touch of alcohol warmth and tiny hint of astringency on the long finish.

Red cherry and currant, quite stalky, slight cedary notes and very slight peppery spice with subtle biscuit and earth notes on the nose. Juicy and savoury, almost sour, cherry backed by spice and a slight smoky note, fine and quite resolved tannins. There is a slight astringency that becomes apparent on the medium plus length tannin. Over time the more green/stalky notes dissipate. Hmm. I think I may leave the rest of the bottles for a year or so.

From Coravin. Aromas of honey, bees wax, orange, something slightly floral; like honeysuckle, an oxidative element, cream and slight vanillin hints...with time a slight herbaceous note encroaches. On the palate the wine is rich with almond notes, honey, fig and a waxy texture. With time a marzipan note comes through as well...Long on the finish. Again a slight oxidative note on the palate. I'm really trying to ration this because it is soooo good but I don't think it will get past the end of the year...

Game of Rhones (Carriageworks, Redfern): Blackberry, plum vanilla, a bit dirty as well with earthy notes and slight cream. On the palate there is slightly sour black fruit, drying chewy tannins but the fruit persist. Nice, well made, has aging capability but isn't quite for me today.
