Very solid. Love the rustic, earthy notes mixed with the Sangio fruit. Still young with an acidic bite on the finish. It's unfortunate that it has the 95 score to live up to because it's a very good value with lots of life left.

Finally decided to try one of Bedrock's Heritage blends with a little age on it. Wow. I will be popping recent vintages any time soon. Let them rest if you can.

Similar notes to three years ago but the rough edges are gone and it shows much more finesse. Still young, but I love how it's come together.

This was fantastic. Smooth and plush with plenty of red fruit, spice, and hints of oak. Really seems to be in a sweet spot right now. This was gone quickly...definitely had the delicious factor.

Similar to previous bottles - boatloads of dark cherry with some spice. I did notice a little heat and side by side with the 2010, this faltered a bit.

Popped and ran through the vinturi. Much more open than 9 months ago. The nose was full of dark berries and stone with more dark fruit and mineral on the palate. Gripping tannins, mouth-watering acidity and a lengthy finish put this in the same category as cool climate Syrahs that are double or triple the price. 92+

I'm in agreement with Loren here....my least favorite vintage of this wine. The flavors just seem muted and one dimensional compared to previous years. A bit disappointing.

My beautiful wife opened this (my last bottle) instead of the 2011. Oh well. Similar to my previous note but I was able to try it on day #2 this time around and it was much more balanced...not as "in-your-face" with the brooding dark fruit. Still a baby though. I'd hold.

I like this representation of tempranillo. Meets a nice middle ground between a Toro and Rioja. Great QPR.

This seems ready to go. Cassis and toasty oak aromas with dark fruit, chocolate, and woodsy spice on the palate. Tannins are firm, but let up with some air. Not the best value but drinks like Cabs in the $60 range.

This was delicious. Loads of all types of berries on the palate but mostly the distinct blueberry notes that I get from Washington Rhones. Definitely fruit forward with some earth in the background but in no way over done. Med-full bodied, bright acid, and medium tannins. Ridiculous value at $24.

4/3/2013 - pete s. wrote: NR

Very expressive nose of florals and red fruit. Medium-bodied palate showing more of the red fruit and stone. Feminine in style, especially compared to the '10 Esquisto and the Halcon Syrahs. High-acid on the finish is not quite balanced, but I look forward to trying this down the road when everything has come together.

Really happy I decided to pick up a 3-pack. This med-bodied blend of Cinsault and Carignane is full of red fruit, mineral, and damp earth notes. The fruit is perfectly ripe, fresh, and pure with integrated tannins and acid on the finish. This drinks like a cool-climate Pinot - think Anderson Valley. Great qpr at $17. 90+

2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Pagani Ranch

Sonoma Valley Zinfandel Blend, Zinfandel more

4/3/2013 - pete s. Likes this wine: 92 points

Pop and pour. The nose immediately exuded an array of dark fruit, licorice, and pepper aromas. Layers of blackberry, red plum, and iron notes on the med-full bodied palate. There's a sweetness and a compote-like nature to the fruit that's balanced nicely by the young tannins. Not a hint of the 15% abv. on the med+ finish. Much different than the 2010 which had a creamy, fuller bodied mouthfeel and bigger, brooding character. Very good, and I look forward to comparing the two vintages side by side in the future.

Decent mencia but missing some of the earthy/mineral characteristics of the bottles I've had from Bierzo. A little to much of the ripe cherry and some heat on the finish. Still, an ok daily drinker for $12.

Popped and poured. Love the nose - blackberry, pipe tobacco, and dark chocolate. Med-full bodied with initial blackberry/cassis flavors that shift to savory beef jus notes on the midpalate. Rounder than expected from a young Toro with fine tannins showing up late and leaving a chalky dryness in the back of the throat. I will taste again tomorrow as it presently seems slightly disjointed.

Popped and poured. I enjoy this style of CdR compared to some of the riper, jammy New World versions. Very Rhone on the nose with red fruit, herb, and mineral notes. On the palate, lighter-bodied and lean with sour/juicy red fruit and mineral. Fine grained tannins and good acid on the finish. Good food wine and good QPR.

Pop and pour. This is a fantastic wine and one of the best domestic, $20 (on sale) cabs I've consumed in a while. Powerful nose of blueberry and black currant. Also getting a distinct roasted red pepper note. On the palate, this is very concentrated and young, but approachable with its tasty black fruit and balsamic flavors. Powerful tannins coat the palate, but eventually give way to a med+ finish. This should age beautifully. Tertulia has sparked my interest.

Tasted blind. Pretty easy to pick out of the lineup. Nose was full of Sonoma Coast funky earth, red fruit, pine, and orange peel. Palate was more yielding than I would've guessed - concentrated strawberry/raspberry and earth notes shine through. Not necessarily full bodied, but definitely a mouthful of wine. Structure was in balance tonight and gave way to a med-long finish. Seems to be a in a good spot.

Tasted blind. Nose of ripe dark cherries and blackberry. Rich fruit on the palate balanced nicely by the tannic structure. Med+ finish. Much better than the '09 which didn't show any sort of varietal character. Abstract is definitely more restrained than the other Orin Swift wines I've tasted.

Decanted for two hours and tasted blind. Nose showed truffle, funky earth, and hints of red fruit. Dark cherry and anise on the palate. I like the flavor profile but this was missing some structure on the finish.

After the reveal and revisiting and hour or so later, the Esquisto had gained substantial structure and come together nicely. Firm tannins and acid made it a great pairing for the pork belly entree. Long life ahead.

2/11/2013 - pete s. wrote: 88 points

Popped and vinturied. Nose was reserved at first, but opened up to show the dark fruit, leather, and chocolate aromas that I typically get from Ribera and Toro tempranillos. Notes of blackberry and vanilla/oak on the med-full bodied palate. Tasty and easy to drink, but kind of simple. There are some chalky, tongue-drying tannins and the finish is just ok. Not seeing the the Miller drinking window at all...I don't see this getting better. Good, but I feel like one can get the same quality for about $10 cheaper...especially Spanish tempranillo.
