Dark fruits, tobacco, and a savoury earthiness. Fully mature and drinking well with supple, medium weight flavours. Margaux wines turned out very well in '83, and this property is very close to Margaux.

Given the vintage and traditionally-minded producer, this showed just as I was hoping it would be. Red fruited, lower alcohol, a bit funky and spicy. Very silky and savoury, this is drinking very well now.

Dark colour. This started out a little funky but that quickly blew off to reveal an expressive nose of dark fruits, black olives, earth, mocha, and a little green tobacco. Still some firmer tannins but they've softened slightly since last tasted in 2010. Drinking well now, in a youthful way. Still plenty development in store.

Clean, and citrusy on the nose with the youthful Raveneau signature of lemon zest and orange blossoms. This was very tight and closed when first opened at the restaurant and hardly opened up over several hours. Medium weight on the palate, with more zesty lemons, oyster shells, and crisp acids. While this has huge structure, it was also very elegant and understated. We took home the last third of the bottle, and it had barely budged when tasted over the next few days. While this was a pleasure to drink, it obviously needs to be left along for several more years to develop.

This was garnet coloured but very murky. A pop & pour, it was a little reticent upon opening but after 30 minutes really came out of it's shell. The nose was a melange of dark fruits, meats, earth, and funk. Medium weight and savoury flavours of dried fruits, plums and leather, nuts and salted caramel. Held up very well over the course of a few hours.

Tremendous Chablis. This was still very fresh and youthful and exhibited great complexity. Honeyed citrus, saline, and mineral flavours abound. Delicious stuff.

Double decanted 7 hours in advance. Very aromatic nose of candied red fruits, lilacs, roses, perfume and oak. Rich on the palate. Definitely more towards the modern spectrum for barolo. Still several years away from maturity.

A perfectly stored bottle with a base-neck fill. The cork was soaked all the way through and the capsule was all rusted out but no matter because this was absolutely sublime. Smokey dark fruits, saddle leather, tobacco and lead pencil. The tannins are mostly resolved, but this still has great structure. What a pleasure to drink!
