2005 The Paring Red Wine

California Red Blend more

Full bodied flavours of blueberry, vanilla and oak. Still some hard tannins, so maybe in a few years the fruit will calm down a bit and the oak will integrate better, and this will become more enjoyable. For now, too OTT for me, and not my style.

Some definite funk (brett?) when first opened, that mostly blew off over several hours, but was still always in the background, but not overpowering. Beautiful core of red fruit, spice and meat. Well balanced wine. Still a bit tannic. My first Pegau. Need to acquire more!

Started out a bit rustic, then gets real smooth and supple. Nice red fruits, saddle leather and a touch of spice. Excellent QPR at $19. Should be great for a few more years easily.

Paired well with a steak. Medium bodied, soft tannins, and as someone else said - simple - but also tasty and a nice QPR.

Popped and poured and drank over 2 days. Day 1 seemed a little disjointed and out of balance. Lots of acidity and tannin but little fruit. Day 2 the tannins have softened. Medium bodied, dark cherries and a bit of tobacco.

Day 1 - First thing I noticed was the alcohol. However it also had gobs of ripe fruit, and a bit of spice. A decent quaffer. Day 2 - This was a hot, alcoholic mess and undrinkable.

Popped and poured. Beautiful nose of dark fruits, tobacco, leather and menthol. A bit astringent at first, but the tannins softened and it opened up over the course of a few hours. Medium bodied. Needed decanting and or a few more years of bottle age.
