Dark black fruit with nice earthiness. Solid and not over the top, as I feared it might be. Oak was in check--very well balanced.

All right but, as with many Aussies, too oaky in my opinion.

Earthy, delicious. Dark fruit for an Etna Rosso. Great with rustic Italian food. Solid QPR in my opinion.

Received as a gift. If you like high-toned Pinot with acid and minerality, this is terrific. If you like sappy California Pinot, this will not be your style.

This was really in a great place. Good fruit, but wonderful secondary characteristics starting to show. Amazing with chicken stuffed with feta and prosciutto. Outstanding.

Very smooth, but not enough terroir or complexity to justify the price point. Poor QPR.

Really outstanding. Amazing structure, spice, fruit, and old-vine character. Very glad I aged this, but will certainly be in a strong state for at least 3 more years.

This did not live up the hype. Nice black fruit and no flaws, but no complexity whatsoever. Just really boring, and poor QPR for that reason.

The 30% Carignane in the blend makes this really interesting with the Zin and PS. Very food-friendly and versatile. Great with Afghan lamb.

Solid, with black fruit playing the lead and some subtle red fruit underneath. We drank this over a 6-hour period, and it went strong the whole time, so no rush on this despite being ten years old. Nice tannin structure. Spicecake notes in the secondary flavors.

This was a gift. Has held up very well over time. Not too powerful but that could be due to prior storage or the fact that it's a half bottle so has aged faster due to the format.

2007 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio

Red Blend more

4/16/2012 - rcmcb wrote: 94 points

If you survey my reviews, it's pretty clear that I am no fan of overt oak, so I was a bit concerned that this Clio would turn out to be an oak monster. However, I found it to be delicious and well balanced for such a big wine--just the right amount of tannins to act as a counterweight to the fruit, and enough acid to hold it all together and avoid being a total fruit bomb. Really great for bold cheeses or steak. Personally I would not wait on this.

2008 Unti Vineyards Zinfandel

4/15/2012 - rcmcb wrote: 88 points

88-89. Not objectionable, but boring. The PS, even at 18%, did not create structure. The Zin did not add spice or complexity. Cal-Ital is a nice idea, but this drank like the 4-euro jug of wine you get at a restaurant in Italy, not a $30 bottle of Dry Creek Zin.
