I want to like this wine more, but I can't. I've enjoyed them in past vintages. It was ok tonight. Very dark purple color, lots of concentration. Palate is cherry lifesavers, sage, brush, and bit of cough syrup at the finish. Touch of heat. Look, people at a party will hammer this down but it's not a wine you'll sip and ponder the world over in front of the fireplace. I'd be curious if they picked this at less brix, it could be an incredible wine.

PnP. Cranberry colored and very bright. Red fruit and wet moss nose. Ripe strawberry and rhubar flavors, delicious. Tannins are soft and fully integrated already. Soft mouthfeel. Medium acid so I dont think there's a worry about this lasting another 5 years.

Seemed like the perfect wine for an evening of homemade pintxos, we even used Veleta EVOO and tuna. Very nice wine. Attack is ripe dark plum but it quickly is replaced by tart cranberry through the finish. Fruit is velvety but wrapped around grainy tannins. Really nice.

Blind and not even close. I thought this was an older southern rhone Grenache. Uh, not so much. There was a lot of band-aid which is brett but it wasnt bad, just like a freshly applied band-aid. Fruit is slightly washed out. Color looked like old school Grenache. Very fun to drink, great treat.

2011 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot

Syrah more

1/30/2016 - brigcampbell wrote: NR

Blind and guessed Syrah but decided California. I wanted to go northern rhone because of the saddle and touch of brett but the concentrate ultimately pushed me towards California. Very dark wine, almost black. Love the chalky backbone. There's a distinct grip at the finish. This should last forever.

Blind guessed copain Pinot noir. Very dark color, saturated. Good mineral note, a bit more oak or stem, and wrapped up tighter than the En Bas. Red apple skin shows up here too.

Blind guessed white burgundy. Have not clue about producers or classifications. A little surprised that this was '08 as it's extremely bright and fresh. No green meanies here. There's a flint note which hinted towards burg. Medium acidity. This added complexity with some glass time. Very nice.

Blind guessed French and the bottle gave it away. Light and very fresh, ripping acidity. There wasn't the typical sour dough or bread note bit more like a cracker or Melba toast. Green apple lots of lemon fruit. Very nice.

Nice find here as I was lost in a Total Wine. The Grenache reminds me of something from France, has an old world and aged component. Dried leaves and dried dark fruit with leather. Very intriguing. Good spicy backbone.

Probably have not tasted this wine in 6+ vintages. Obviously, the style is dial back compared to high octane earlier versions. While still a bold structured wine it has balance and finesse. Nice wine, just a bit over my comfort zone for price.

Well, this will change your perception of what a rosé should look and taste like. First off, Blind I wouldn't have guessed a rosé. This is the darkest I've ever seen. Very fruit forward, concentrated, and heavy mouthfeel. It taste like a straight up Grenache wine. Fruit flavors are very clean. This wine lives on the polar opposite of the classic earthy rosé of Provence. Fun to try. Needs to be served very cold if you want the crispness.

Blind. Guessed Syrah and Copin ( I thought correctly), more on that later.

Good clarity and light garnet color, like a medium light Pinot. Hum... Nose is red fruit but can't tell if it's cherry or berries. Off to taste which heads me down the Zinfandel path more than Pinot. There's definitely a high quality zin fruit note here with cherry but the other moving pieces say keep digging. It doesn't have the weight or intensity of a big California Syrah but something is there... It's cool climate regardless so I call Copain Syrah, the only producer I've tasted pushing the Syrah envelope down that far and producing great wine. ( add Pax to the list) This is a delicious and elegant Syrah.

Probably would have guessed Sauvignon blanc if it were blind. Nice quaffer. Light yellow color, maybe a hint of green in the background. Flowers and ripe pear nose. Ripe pear and yellow apple flavor. End in shows more of pink grapefruit. Medium weight and nice mouthfeel. Maybe a touch fruit forward for my personal taste but enjoyable.

Lots of love for this wine from the CT gang and I'm enjoying it while watching 2' of snow bury us in Big Bear. I like it because it's a very nice petite syrah! Extremely saturated purple color. Nose strongly resembles blueberry pancake syrup. Not picking up any cassin in the palate, just more ripe sweet blue fruit . Difficult to distinguish between ripeness and possible residual sugar but I'm assuming the RS is there since the ABV is labeled 14.2%, something has to give. Fruit forward and concentrated. Pairing with homemade chicken chili and a roaring 3 log fire.

Found a bottle hiding in the back of the cabinet. Starting to oxidize, adding depth of color and the fruit is fading. Drink up. These are freshest in the first couple years of release unless you really enjoy that Spanish ox thing in your wines.
