Upfront nose, it has the mossy/woody pinot thing going but with a bunch of thick spice right after, and some cherry jolly rancher in the background. I only gave this about 15 minutes of air and this wine might as well be 2 years old, there is a ton of tension between the fruit and tannin, and the tannins are mouthcoating as to be a bit unforgiving at this point. That characteristic really highlights the earthy pinot tone, and lends plenty of minerally notes, before you get to the hard cherry candy notes where the texture goes silky for only moments. You have to look but there is some grapefruit rind following the acidity right on the front of the palate providing a touch of bitterness. Medium body, medium acidity. Very well balanced. Will update, this needs to breathe, pretty tight.

Day 2-

much more open knit and showing a finer lacy texture. the components remain with just a bit definition to the earthy pinot notes of decomposing log and a touch of moss and stone to go with smooth hard cherry candy and some spice. it's kind of muted, everything subtle and no amplitude anywhere. It's very good but nothing is really grabbing me for more even if it still is an extremely well balanced wine with excellent tone. This needs more time.

Evolution continues from my last note. At this point this has a big nose of exotic spices and maraschino cherries that is very zin in character. The front palate reflects this with a luxurious layer of red and dark red cherries that is very deep with a velvety texture(keep it on the front palate for that), but the acid is starting to take hold after that. It switches gears and goes to a combination of citrus peel and wild berry fruit that I associate with blood orange. The texture also changes as it seems the furry tannins of the mourvedre begin to show with some light garrigue notes. Practically changes to a Rhone blend at this point. Still has a little warmth to it. It hasn't come together yet, the components are still a bit disparate. I think the acid will bring it all together in a short 1-3 years. Very interesting wine that could only come from this vineyard.

No decant and showing very young so I will keep it to the basics. The composition comes across immediately as pure class, remarkably balanced and poised. Stemmy and perfumed nose. Mild green/spicy stems on the palate but with a combination of dark and light very juicy fruits, and more perfume. Hints of savory notes all around and you know they will show with just a bit of time. Chalky tannins but this stays so light and agile on the palate while having deep flavor. Nice little throw of spice and pepper on the finish. There is no question why this is a syrah benchmark, it's right there in the bottle.

Fresh green wheatgrass and florals on the nose, cool and pretty, no sharpness. There is good delineation on the palate and it evolves slowly. Grass, hint of tropical melon, then the acid kicks in with grapefruit and peel, then rounding it out with some apricot and stone fruits. Pretty mellow representation overall with no sharp spots sticking out anywhere, better than most balance (without the residual sugar that many cheat with in SB). You get a bit of heat after a few sips but it is laid over the whole composition, not really noticeable at any one point. Medium body, medium-high acid. Nothing crazy but this is a superior summer quaffer.

Quite nice. This very much reminds me of a Rivers Marie Sonoma Coast profile, but with more bitter earth component and a bit down on fruit. Cranberry and red apple peel fruit, pinot earth throughout, bitter citrus peel, and a finish of very light cherry. It has a med-full body, medium integrated acid, and a pleasing velvety texture. This wine comes down to the balance of sweet and bitter, they are almost an even match. Some will object, others not. Finish is a bit hot but I did not decant. Solid wine for a pinot drinker, good qpr. I think this would be quite good with a food pairing.

Reading the notes on this wine cracks me up. I get exactly the perspective where all the comments come from, which is to say a lot of you are wrong but you are still right, sort of. I like burgundy and I unabashedly love very light pinots that don't necessarily have a lot of fruit but have the "tone" that I love from pinot. This wine has that. It is not insipid, it is not even thin for that matter. This is a translucent pinot that has excellent balance, a perfect green forest earthy pinot note throughout, and excellent acidity with cranberry and citrus peel fruit. It is refreshing to drink, and typifies what a lower end pinot actually should be... light, but varietally correct and balanced. This wine has that. Well done. And Trader Joe's wine person, tip o' the hat to ya'.

This started a bit slow and felt heavy and tired when popped. Don't be fooled, it takes off within an hour or two. Still a brute of a wine, very dark and imposing, almost a wall in that it imposes but isn't necessarily giving. This meaty/iron/dark/salty/stony black hole also happens to taste of luscious blackberry and black plum skin. It also has a thin veneer of perfume that rides just on the surface. This is still very tannic, has structure and is overall very young. Perhaps I should read my own notes. This needs time to get things into balance. 2018.

Pobega'd this one but I did let it breathe for about 2 hours. Sensational. Florals, lemon and minerals on the nose, beguiling, and wonderfully reserved. The palate is a marvel. Lemon, lemon curd, green apple, with beams of acidity quietly taming everything all over while minerals fill in every gap. The texture and the balance complete this wine, it comes across so softly but with a creaminess and not a sniff of alcohol. Amazing pairing with scallops, basil oil, and lemon zest. Long finish of lingering lemon. Maybe a toss up, but I think this is the best chardonnay I've ever tasted.

Smoke, cherries, plums, and bacon. Drinking very well, plenty of structure and tannin hanging around but also very giving. A food wine to be sure. Had this on the boat with some steaks and it was just killer. Hard to think of another syrah that has the acid to be great with food, tastes awesome on its own, and has old world styling. Just great stuff.

Better on day two. Blackberries, a mintiness, spices, and an earthyness that oscillates from meaty to a bit of dirt. The earth provides a bitterness that really helps to offset the buxsome fruit and the confection notes I find in the wine. It's big and strapping of course, and mourvedre is an interesting play on this style handling it better than I would have guessed.

Drinking very well. Had this in a vertical of 04, 05, 06. The '06 is a star. It has the same profile as the previous two, but cranks up the intensity of the fruit a few notches. Gorgeous light berries, perfume, cherry fruit, plum, and then some meat and smoke. All of these wines showed well, if anything they are balanced and smooth. The 06 just had the upper hand. Extremely good with red wine braised lamb.

My first Dujac (and my first grand cru) and I am rating this based on a food pairing alone. If I had to score it on food pairing it is probably a 95. A soft and subtle wine, with a complete palate of subtle red fruit, light stone, and earthy notes of stem and pinot. Perfect medium acid to compliment the food, and just enough earthiness to finish. This burg killed with a complex mushroom soup. Likely good with anything.

Drinks ok now, but could use just a year or two to smooth out. Dense deep dark fruit coupled with some sweet herbs. Lots of zin character. Bit soft on structure currently.

Day two- This has come together as completely composed, cool, and very focused in an odd way I don't expect in a blend. A black hole of deep and spicy dark fruit, touch of licorice, with subtle herbs. Very slow on the palate, so very long, which is contrary to the seeming lack of noticeable structure. Not so much zin character any longer, it is unique. This will be tremendous with some brief age, it's unlike anything I've had. Quality wine with real vineyard signature.

Continues to evolve. First thing I notice is there is a lot tannin resolution, much more giving and a much finer texture, but also toning down the body to about medium up front and med+ on the finish. The structure is much softer, only the acidity grabs, so I would guess this is a bit on the short side. On the palate there is spicy dark red plum, some good acidity up front, and lots of perfumed fresh berries which are really the best part. The whole package is coated in a subtle smokiness, and some iron, but it never overpowers the fruit. This is on the tail end of primary. Normally I would think there is some secondary here to wait on, and I could be wrong, but I think the tannins and structure have softened enough that this should be consumed within 2 years. It's interesting to see my previous notes and see how the perfume and freshness has followed this wine all along, while other components have dropped.

Granted this is young and shows as such, but man, what a wine. You can smell this glass from 5 feet away. Loads of Cab character but with intensity that is tempered with serious acidity and a very pleasing light body that results in a vibrant cabernet. It needs an hour or two right now to calm down but is showing extremely well. This wine has everything. Green, mocha, cherry fruit, fresh berries, with a very long and complex finish. This killed with food from salad to main dish. Very claret in style with lots of perfume, I can't say enough about it. One of the best cabs I have ever tasted. Pure fun.

Based on my last note this is really giving a ton more at this point. Right off the pop, the nose was cologne. Woody, smoky, just a hint of fruit, and very cool. The palate is very cool as well, extremely balanced. That changed but it was great. After tasting over about two hours, there were subtle shifts but it remained overall the same composition. I keep trying, but I cannot shake the front palate impressions of melon, that is a new one. Then there is some apple, hard candy and red cherry. There is a blanket of subtle smokiness that persists throughout, attractive, and much less intrusive than your syrahs. There is also a pungency, a slight decomposing log note, that I associate with pinots of terroir. After a bit all those fine tannins obscure the finish, and it's a touch warm while some fleeting mintyness tries to poke through. Med to med+ body, med+ acid.

I still remember the first bottle and this has put on considerable weight since then. Well, that one came off pretty light I guess, this is in the med+ range for sure.

For me this was a stunner. It has a little heat showing all over, but the red fruit is crisp and absolutely crystalline. There's spice there, and Sonoma is certainly in play with some baseline pinot earth. The citrus peel has retreated, leaving the acidity, but integrating. While it may have more weight, it is not the kind of weight that detracts from pinot, it's just right and lively for the tremendous raspberry and cranberry you get in this wine. Like many of the best RM wines, this hits that flavor spectrum sweetspot where all the layers come together to hit the main palate with very appealing flavor. It's great fruit, and well built, and while I don't see it being amazing, I would not be surprised to be embarrassed for having said so in 6 to 10 years.

First day this was understandably tannic, but still a bit of fun to sample with plenty of material showing. Lots of layers, and left me with an impression of being purpose built and contained.

Day two- Wild dark berries, jam, and florals on the nose. Juicy blackberries, floral pastille, sweet herbs, on the palate. For a field blend, this comes off really balanced in relation to what I'm used to, very composed, almost cool but hints of subtle heat, with well hidden acid but it is there. The fruit is rather deep, and the finish goes on and on where it remains sweet but with a definitive meat and smoke component. Fine tannins gripping well into the finish and slowly spreading. This is a heckuva wine, and a dynamite field blend

Needs about an hour to breath. Beautifully focused wine of pear and prominent lemon with somewhat poking acidity. There are plenty of minerals, and it finishes with those minerals and a certain cheesy funkiness I find in better chardonnays. The acidity works great for food, and the finish is long enough to compliment. It does show a little heat to detract all around, but it's difficult to not love everything else.

Unlike a previous great bottle, this one was overripe and pruney with a port like finish. I can't make sense of it.

Keep in mind this needs a bit of time to settle. I found it searingly hot on day one and nearly undrinkable, so the advice to decant or let breathe for a day is spot on. So much better on day two. Despite the nice medium color, this has very dark and deep savory fruit with a pleasing minty-ness. The finish has earthiness of the mourvedre that balances well. This has good structure and deep fruit with plenty of complexity, but needs time.
