2005 Domaine Gachot-Monot Côte de Nuits VillagesPinot Noir more |

Powerful and classic BDX bouquet (cassis, blackberry, etc...my mother claimed "withered lilacs" and I have to agree). Mid-palate dark-fruit driven with deep espresso, chocolate and vanilla peeking through. This is not a subtle wine--tons of flavor--but still with elegance. My grandmother, who doesn't drink wine, said it lingered 20+ seconds. Would merit a higher score if I had let it sit 6-8 years. A great wine. Awesome! |

5/8/2009 - Bradford wrote: 89 pointsNice value BDX at $26. Decanted 45+ and drank over 2 hours. Medium to full body. Somewhat austere black cherry and limestone at first, progressing into something like under-ripe blackberry. Not too long in the mouth, but very pleasing. |

5/8/2009 - Bradford wrote: 90 pointsTerroir! I have had this bottle five or six times (including 2006). For this price I can't think of a more expressive, exciting wine! Wonderful aromatics spanning the floral-fruit spectrum. Beyond those heady Cru Beaujolais dark fruits come pine sap and cedar, faint sweet vanilla enclosed in some real earthy wet grass thing. So big, yet so crisp. |

1998 Carruades de LafitePauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/8/2009 - Bradford wrote: 87 pointsA little underwhelmed. Was outperformed by a $25 California Cab I brought out last minute when this seem to be showing poorly. Medium-bodied, standard red berries with faint dry spices. Pleasing in the mouth, distinguished from $20 BDX by all-around finesse--but there's just not enough character. Come on Lafite! |

5/8/2009 - Bradford wrote: 87 pointsI love this wine, and so do my friends (non-wine-drinkers). Plus, you can usually find it for less than $20 (Sherry-Lehman). Easy forward fruit in the hot 2003: up-front cherry and a bit of cassis, accessible spice and softy-soft tannins (friends appreciated the lack of "bitterness"). Great all-around to keep on hand for parties. |

2001 Château AngélusSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/8/2009 - Bradford wrote: 91 pointsPretty much awesome, and in my opinion, drinking almost to perfection with a little decant. Brought back from France for brother's graduation. Decanted for 30+. Loads of blackberry, blueberry, some cassis, allspice and then vanilla. The carafe disappeared before the guests arrived! Not as ridiculous as the 2000, but quietly exotic (for a BDX) in its own special way. |

4/30/2009 - Bradford wrote: 94 pointsMassive berry nose. Canadian bacon, freshly crushed black pepper, clove and other holiday spice, burning autumnal leaves...finishes caramel and vanilla bean. Needed at least 45+ decanting time to get by that modern-ish oak, but brilliant when it blossomed. |
