2012 Vignoble Dampt IrancyPinot Noir more |
11/15/2017 - Jubby Likes this wine: 89 pointsIntriguing. Really funky farmyard nose when first opened, some but not all dissipated in the first few hours and more of a traditional savory Burgundy character came out. Herbal palate, smooth, reasonably long finish. Day 2 and it becomes a full-on savory leather-fest, all earthy and slightly salty (?). Delicious, intriguing and fairly good value at this price-point. |

1/24/2015 - Jubby Likes this wine: 92 pointsFrom opening, to first taste to seeing it evolve over 2-3 hours, it was reminiscent of a great Aussie shiraz. The tannins and alcohol have subsided and you have an initial aroma of stewed red, jammy fruit, pepper and smokiness. On the palate it's a similar story, with an earthy, savoury, slightly spicy hit upfront, transitioning to sweetness on the long finish but not overly so and still enough alcohol to keep it all together. Wonderful. |

2011 Casarena Cabernet Sauvignon ReservaMendoza more |
1/18/2015 - Jubby Likes this wine: 91 pointsWonderful Cab, viscous inky blue appearance, initial heavy alcohol, menthol and forest fruits on the nose, palate is then backed up by subtle spice, menthol, cigar box and cocoa notes. Day 2 saw the menthol ease off and a much more balanced, softer palate come through. Matched perfectly with 80% cocoa dark chocolate.... Incredible value and could/should be remarkable in another 5 years. |

2011 Dominio IV The Technicolor BatColumbia Gorge Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more |
1/3/2015 - Jubby wrote: 88 pointsVery thin on the front, opens up a little and some great dark fruit but then disappears completely with a short finish. Given the blend I was expecting a lot more, tannins, alcohol, anything..... very strange. I'm hoping this is just a down phase as it could be great with more body and structure. |

2013 Illahe Pinot Noir Willamette Valleymore |
11/24/2014 - Jubby Likes this wine: 89 pointsA very light and subtle wine but with good backbone. Balanced, light sour cherry nose followed by similar flavor profile, although becomes more savory on the finish. Day 2 saw the sour aspect diminish and the savory, slightly sweet notes come through. A decent pinot but not as good as I recalled from the tasting a week earlier. |

2011 Poderi Sanguineto I e II Rosso di MontepulcianoSangiovese more |
4/12/2014 - Jubby Likes this wine: 90 pointsIt's no exaggeration to say this is one of my favourite wines that I've tasted in many months. A lovely, rich cassis nose, smooth palate with black fruit that turns into a lengthy, more savoury finish. Good balance of tannins and alcohol, drinking perfectly now. |

12/31/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 90 pointsWonderful golden honey colour and slight syrup-like texture but not overly so, nose of honey-rum and apricots, backed up on the palate with strong fresh apricot. An interesting back-palate of salted caramel on occasion. |

1999 The Standish Wine Company Shiraz The StandishBarossa Valley more |
11/2/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 92 pointsOutstanding. In the brick-red phase of it's life so I wouldn't leave too much longer, drinking perfectly now. All the tannins have melted away to leave a lovely, delicately structured wine with soft earthy tones on the nose and a long, savoury gentle finish. Pair this carefully as it would be overpowered by anything vaguely spicy or gamey. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2010 Corte dei Papi Cesanese del Piglio Colle Ticchiomore |
11/30/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 88 pointsThis wine punches way above its QPR point; initially quite thin but give it 30 mins and it develops a lovely viscous silky texture and a deep indigo colour in the glass. On the nose, fleshy & earthy fruit and some spice but without the sourness you might expect, on the palate a similar experience, it reminded me of damsons or fleshy plums. Fairly one dimensional, with a quick finish, but at this price what do you expect? I'll be looking for more as the perfect weekday accompniament to winter red meat dishes. |

2011 Adelsheim Pinot Noir Willamette Valleymore |
10/26/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 89 pointsEuropean lighter style pinot; sour cherry on the front, immediately followed by a delicious long savoury mid & finish. A good wine, but not sure it's worth almost $30..... |

9/7/2013 - Jubby wrote: 88 pointsSimilar view to the other comments out here; good but not great, it lacks complexity and I expected more at the price I paid ($17). But a perfect match to a creamy Thai curry. Another reviewer mentioned they'd found it for close to $10, which seems about the right price point. |

2011 Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay Sonoma Countymore |
9/4/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 88 pointsA great value Sonoma chardonnay, nice balance of fresh fruit and acidity upfront with a medium buttery finish, but not overly oaked. Incredible value at $9 a bottle, perfect mid-week tipple. |

9/7/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 89 pointsPurchased from the cellar door in 08 and have been waiting for the right time to open, definitely worth the wait! 9/2/2013 - Jubby Does not like this wine: 86 pointsReally not to my liking; very tarte on first tasting, I had difficulty finding anything tangible - fruit, spice, aroma's etc - to identify with. I found it a very thin wine, with little backbone or structure. |

7/13/2013 - Jubby Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis wine is drinking perfectly now, although I wouldn't leave it too much longer as it's definitely starting to turn the corner. Lovely savoury nose, meaty dark plum palate, soft tannins and a wonderful silky finish. Drink in one sitting as it becomes almost port-like by day 2. 1 person found this helpful, do you?
