4/24/2024 - oldwines wrote: 93 pointsBrought by a friend already double decanted and tasted over several hours. Nice fully mature bottle, perhaps a touch past prime but really complex and delicious, hints of florals and earthy, stony and spicy elements surrounding a a cherry fruit core. The nose was quite captivating early on but got a little more rustic later. Nice long, slightly chocolatey finish. Warm vintage and resulting in 14.9% ABV which was not really noticeable. |

2019 Tyler Chardonnay Mae EstateSta. Rita Hills more |
4/24/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 94 pointsWonderful, old world styled chard. Bright crisp acidity, nice mineral undertones. Lovely nose that shows lots of peach, apple and pear along with nice light floral notes. Palate is more citrus oriented but very focused and precise overall. Rather saline and lime zest dominant on the finish. This is my first bottle of the Mae Estate Chard from Tyler. Impressive but if my information is correct this is the first bottling from a vineyard planted in 2016, so the fruit is quite nice and bursting with energy, it does seem to lack a little depth which am pretty sure will improve as the vines mature. This vintage could score higher in the future and I would think future vintages will be weightier and with more depth of fruit flavor over time while remaining true to its style. |

4/22/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 91 pointsLight copper pink color. Modest effervescence. Lightly yeasty, with strawberry, citrus zest, apple, and pear along with bright acidity. Pleasant enough but not worth what I paid for it, which was a decent amount above the community average. |

4/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 95 pointsFrom a friend’s cellar which we had purchased together. Decanted prior to my arrival. This was beautiful and rich with smooth deep texture and fruit that is dark but not brooding. Lots of primary and secondary flavors. I don’t feel this has lost much with age, but I am an older wine guy… It didn’t seem hot at all but pretty well balanced for a modern style Cali Cab, though I do share the sentiment that these more modern style Cali Cab (especially most of the 100 pointers by the notable critics) will not age as well as the classic old-school versions from the 70’s-80’s and early 90’s. Pretty similar overall to previous bottles. |

4/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 92 pointsBlinded this could easily pass for Barolo. Clean and fresh with rose petals and cherry. Nice purity of fruit if not particularly complex or long. Solid and a good value. I would concur with others that the 2021 may be a touch better… |

4/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 92 pointsLarge Coravin pour tasted after about 30-40 minutes and over another 90 minutes or so. It took a little while to come together but has nice depth of fruit and while it seemed slightly oak influence it was balanced and tasty. Lightly bricked and with fully resolved tannins. Perhaps not profound but a step or two above the review from Vinous would suggest. Rich with secondary notes of earth and spice. Pleasant and good value. Do you find this review helpful? 2000 Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa MatéNebbiolo more |
4/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 93 pointsLarge Coravin pour in 2 glasses served blind with a friend. Tasted after 30 minutes or so in the glass and over about another 90 minutes. This bottle seemed a little tired compared to my previous notes. It showed some bricking, and a raisin/prune overtone that did fade a bit with air. Some metallic notes on the nose, perhaps iron or rust. Floral essence only come out a little later in the period. Acidity is decent but palate texture is smooth with fully resolved tannins. Overall the flavor profile seemed a little muddied. Despite all of it, there is nice depth and length to this and it shows nice drinkability if not the perfect typicity of other bottles I’ve had from a case purchased on release as my first exposure to this family winery. |

4/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 95 pointsFrom 375ml bottle. Lovely balance here, not hot, not overly sweet, rich dark berry fruit, chocolatey, floral, and spicy. Easy to drink and lively. This bottle was PnP and with some air would probably nudge a bit higher. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 96 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. This was a “wow” wine for me today. It is super traditional, with a 35 day maceration and aged in large botti. While quite cherry fruit forward, it is elegant, fragrant and structured. A Beautiful and ethereal wine. Surprisingly easy to drink at this early stage and very long on the finish. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 94 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. Traditional style but aged for 1 year in cement and 2 in botti. Softer than the Classico with a touch more plushness. Typical Barolo flavor profile. Good length. Rich and balanced with plenty of life ahead. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 93 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. Another taste of this wine and It again shows as clean fresh and traditional in style with a light weight texture but big flavor. I rated it a little higher the last time, I think it had more aeration at the Tre Bicchieri tasting recently. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Does not like this wine: 89 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. This relatively new producer (since 2008) makes a nice traditional Classico but he makes the single vineyard cru’s in a more modern style with distinct oak influence through the use of tonneau. This wine is distinctly vanilla and cherry oriented. It is a big somewhat harsh wine, I thought was much less appealing than the Classico. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 92 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. The producer was a start-up in 2008, relatively new. The Classico is made in a very traditional style, aged all in larger botti. The wine is very clean and fresh with typical expressions of cherry and roses and a hint of blood orange. Very long finish. I liked this. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 93 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. Aged in older 30 HL French oak botti. This is a quite big wine with high tannin and acidity and lots of structure. The fruit is also big. Balanced but needs cellaring. This could be really wonderful in due time. |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 91 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening NYC. Traditional or modern, I can't quite tell...seems to taste of new oak with some distinct vanilla and baking spice. Floral, cherry fruit notes and fairly brooding. Darker than the 2020 Bernadot vineyard cru. I'm somewhat ambivalent on this one... |

3/20/2024 - oldwines Likes this wine: 92 pointsTasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening NYC. This producer has apparently, recently converted to biodynamics and returned to more traditional winemaking. I found this quite elegant and attractive. Light weight in style, like great Pinot Noir. 14% ABV. Typical flavor profile. Probably better with some cellaring. |
