Perfection. There is no compromise between the phases of the experience. An incredibly intense bouquet full of aged tobacco from the bowl of the pipe, leather, Madagascar vanilla, orange blossom. The palate is rich and strong, front to back without gaps and a finish that is simply endless. Powerful and full with a viscous mouthfeel hinting at syrup. The end is a sense of toasted muscovado sugar and candied kumquats with aniseed. Simply extraordinary and a real pleasure every second.

Intense aroma. Tobacco, aged leather, pipe that has held tobacco for decades. Consistency of syrup, Taste of madascagar vanilla, macadamia nut, high intensity in the flavor. The length of finish is beyond any port tasted previously.Tabacco and molasses in the finish with a citrus note. High viscous mouthfeel that is dense like a food versus a drink. Butterscoth in the taste after the swallow.

The only reason this is not 100 is the nose, whilst incredible, is trounced by the palate. It is so rich, balanced, and the length is insane.

The friends that tried this with me were all stunned into silence.

Including a winemaker!

And the bottle had been open for months.

It's the best port I have ever had no question.

2015 Port Harvest Tour; 9/26/2015-10/3/2015 (Portugal): Maderized notes on the nose. Dark amber-brown at the center, lightening at the edges. Crazy acidity. Orange peel and deep caramel on the long, unctuous finish.

Stunning, mouth filling and very lively at 159 years old. Candied citrus, red dates, tea, plums. Long finish and quite a bit of retro nasal

What a treat to try this. Just two little sips but you didn't need any more than that to see what was going on here, it was so powerful and emphatic. Sommelier said it reminded him more of old Madeira than old Port and he was right. It had that citrus-like tangy acidity enlivening the sticky fruit, liked steeped candied orange peels. The amazing thing was that after 150 years in wood you didn't taste any wood. I've never been a big fan of old tawnies because at 20 years and beyond they just seem to taste like the cask. But at 150+ years this one didn't. Just remarkably succulent and persistent fruit, without being fruity - and sticky, without being sweet. This doesn't have a "finish" the way the term is normally used with a backdraft of retronasal aromas after you swallow it; instead it tastes like you're still holding it in your mouth even after it's long gone.

Tasted after slow O over ~ 1 month. Was told that it took that long to really unwind and show it's stuff. And there was alot here.
Tea, plums, zingy acidity, thick and viscous, rancio and a very very long linear finish. A bit like 100 year old Balsamico.
Lasts for minutes (around 3) and then lingers afterwards. Remarkable.

Best port I have had ever (up till now).

A stunning treat! Deep, dark black walnut colour, with edges of golden olive, some mocha, caramel, lemon zest, not too sweet but rich, with a long, delicious finish. More please!

A surprising brown colour. It has a very spirity nose almost like whiskey behing that are beautiful notes of chocolate, brown butter, figs and menthol. The nose keeps developing in the glass and shows more earthiness. Much more structure then you would expect from an old tawny. Delicious caramel and aged wood flavours and finish.

How do you rate such an exceptional and rare wine?

Wow!! Clear tawny in colour w some green on the edges. Clean nose of Butterscotch, spice, and dried fruit. Off dry, nice acidity (especially for 155 yrs old), full body, butterscotch, dried fruit, and almonds. Amazing finish. Not sure how to describe. Unlike anything I have had before. 150 years old is hard to believe.

Dinner with Robert Bower of Taylor Fladgate (Carlos' Restaurant, Highland Park): The Scion had the color of root beer, almost coffee, fading to yellow at the rim, just a tiny bit murky. It seemed to improve and open in the glass over an hour's time, showing intense nuttiness, celery seed, allspice, and faint apricot. Great depth and richness, perfect balance, not especially sweet or syrupy, showing almost Madeira-like acidity (but smoother) and pleasing warmth. Incredibly long, lingering on the palate for over a minute. I admit I was greedily hoping for a slightly bigger pour, since there were only 9 of us present, but we were tasting from little presentation vials rather than a full bottle, so we each got just about a half-ounce. Vintage traceable back to at least 1855, suspected to be somewhat older.

Truly great experience...150+ year old Port. Amazingly dark color shows the effect of evaporation and concentration over the decades. Less sweet than I expected. Flavors of caramel, with ripe plum and some figs. Very intense finish, in fact the wine's intensity seemed to increase with more time in glass. A wine to slowly and quietly contemplate.
