Community Tasting Note

June 18, 2009 - Took to a syrah tasting, tasted with no decant, but after being opened for 1-2 hours, and no change even with a brief shaking of the bottle after the initial taste. Massive wine and really hard to evaluate. No formal notes. Dark black/purple color. Nose of blueberry jam, mullberry, candied violets, a little licorice, some inkiness, a little carmel or something sweet, and some heat. On the palate dark fruit, mullberry, plums, a little marionberry, licorice, some chocolate, and white pepper/heat on the tail, this almost comes across as sweet that is how much fruit was present. The mouthfeel was great and the viscocity of this wine is a little crazy. The finish was really long and stayed with you for a while, the heat though was its down fall. Not for the old world crowd, would not drink with any sort of food, and would not advise if massive wine and alcohol bothers you. Hold. 50+5+13+17+6
