February 22, 2012 - Full garnet color. Nose: blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry fruit with accents of mocha, graham cracker, marzipan, baking spices, and licorice. Medium/full body on the palate: more blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry fruit framed by mocha, graham cracker, baking spices, powdered graphite, vanilla, and a hint of nettle/underbrush. Medium acidity. Moderate oak-centric tannins. Lingering nettle/underbrush and mocha/graphite on the long finish. An appealing combination of luscious texture, rich fruit, and sweet tannins give this modern-styled Cab a Zinfandel-esque feel. Needs a few years in the cellar for the heavy oak to integrate and the wine to come into better balance. A great wine for grilled red meat.
