June 26, 2012 - It's been 3yrs. since I last enjoyed this, again along with the '02 Oscar Semmler Dutschke. Over the past few years I've found '02 to be a consistently good year for Aussie juice and this is no exception: it's absolutely delicious. This is from a 375ml screwcapped bottle that was poured off two weeks ago after an initial taste, again along with an '02 Oscar Semmler. It was a 91 then and a 92+ now.

Still quite dark red/purple with a slight cloudiness, it offered up scents of crushed mulberry/blueberry/blackberry along with light spice notes that coated the palate with more of the same and ended in a rich and satisfying juicy/fruity finish. You could enjoy it on its own and not have it get in the way of steak, short ribs or other suitable rich dish. Tonight I had it with 4 cheese ravioli in a rich sauce seasoned with Italian sausage, roasted red bell peppers, fresh basil and lots of garlic. Ah, such Italian/Australian harmony...
