December 2, 2012 - Deep, midnight purple. Guarded nose but developed notes of cassis, black currants, blackberry, and a peppery spice after a two hour decant. Secondary notes of mushrooms, licorice, mocha, crushed rocks, and leather.

Bold, full bodied, and dry, with a flashy array of black fruit, fine acidity, and firm tannins. Cigar box, graphite, black cherry, French roast coffee, Asian spices, and an irony back note that continues through the intense, granite-laden finish. Youthful, powerful, and exuberant, but with a classical streak. Approachable now but could gain more complexity and power if given time to mature. Decant.

Paired with grilled flank steak, oven-roasted fingerling potatoes, and Morrel mushroom crostini.
