    January 1, 2013 - ---
    COLOR: Deep garnet-purple, almost opaque
NOTE: Second-best PC to date for me. The nose is delightfully rich with boysenberry liqueur, dark cocoa, Saigon cinnamon, nutmeg, cherry pipe tobacco, vanilla bean and just a slight tinge of heat. Mouth is med-heavy weight and has a nice proportion of fruit to structure, where the fruit becomes more fresh juice (boysenberry/blackberry, blueberry) and the structure becomes more mineral-driven than ash/leaf/smoke. This thing tastes like a baby and could go another 10 years easy, but I don't see it improving any. A lot of stuffing to be sure, but the finish is where it disappoints because it becomes a dirty ashtray filled with ripe black fruit juice. At least it lasts a good 30 seconds and almost approaches a hint of opulence.

I still don't understand the outrageous professional scores for wines like this as they don't provide nearly the satisfaction of similarly priced Bordeaux-blends from anywhere else in the world. Maybe it's like what my dad says about Scotch. You have to smoke cigars to kill your palate enough to enjoy some of the grittier ones. I think that may be going on with some of these lead tasters in Bordeaux (esp when you see them contributing to Cigar Afficionado).
