January 29, 2013 - Deep violet, no clear rim on the wine, but semi translucent. It took some time to open up, but the nose is a delicate mixed berry and violets. On the palate the berries come through quite well, but taste darker than the smell. Nice mid-palate with a nice texture and mouth coating silky tannin. The minerals and acidity have great chemistry. A good finish ends this nicely, but a little high in the ABV department and not masked very well. Not very complex either, but a great qpr that went well with roasted pork.

1/29/13, 9:37 PM - I should have edited this, but a note that this wine started to fall apart after a couple hours. I suspect this is due to its youth as I have seen this in many young wines with aging potential. The last part of the bottle was taken home and upon trying to drink the high ABV, the acidity and flavor profiles just got really bad, including some bitterness on the finish which was quite unpleasant. If you don't finish this in one sitting, try drinking the remaining amount a few degrees cooler and hope that this will tame the heat without wrecking the fruit. I will hold my remaining for a year at least.
