February 2, 2013 - This wine is a big wine, that needs a lot more cellar time. This is a much darker Pinot Noir than most vintages in Volnay. It has a good amount of Oak, and only a little of it has turned into the brown sugars, caramels and chocolates. After 3 days it has a nice clear ring around the edge, but it didn't have this on day one. Red cherries are the main fruit with pie cherry tartness. Good solid mineral acidity gives this wine all the right things to be really good in 5 years or so when the tannin will be completely integrated, so let these sleep in the cellar. While the ABV feels a bit high, it still much less than 2003. This will be a phenomenal wine in 5+ years. Right now its just infanticide. Good to measure where these bottles are at.
