February 26, 2013 - By the glass at the Waterbar & Steakhouse in Cairns. This has rounded up a bit since I tried it at the winery a couple of years ago, but without quite improving in the way I hope it would. The nose showed a nicely typical Coonawarra character of ripe cassis and plums, meat and earth fringed with just a touch of minty eucalyptus. It was ripe on the palate, a it sweet, with more black-fruited flavours at the fore, on an earthy, slightly herby background. The finish was rather warm, both with a spicy, herby, tobacco back-note as well as a touch of alcohol. However, while not the freshest of wines maybe, this was still well-balanced enough to go well with a nice, juicy steak. More developed than the last time round maybe, but neither better nor distinctly worse - it remains a decent, if hardly special Coonawarra Cab.
