May 12, 2013 - The Blue Fin Pinot Noir was so well received that I decided to try their 2012 Viognier. I was afraid this would prove to be something syrupy sweet and flabby, and am glad to be wrong. This is not textbook Viognier. The nose actually has the smell of Granny Smith apple acidity with less floral notes than I expected. There is a bitter, but not all the way decimating, start, to the honeysuckle influenced peach, pear, and pineapple fruit. That bitter flavor extends through the mid palate in a just cracked walnut shell sort of way. As you drink down the glass, this wine grows on you in a raw, but tasty way. Honey and acid on the finish.
