August 10, 2013 - Most of the Spanish wines I've had were either tempranillo or granache and I think subconsciously I was expecting the Nido one to taste along those lines. Instead, i was pleasantly surprised. Most reviewers commented on the oak in this; I did not detect an overwhelming presence of that. instead, this was a beautifully balanced wine. I think the Monastrell was a good match for the cabernet. Totally threw me it was from Spain. One guest felt it drank more like pinot. Still, a dense wine and probably the heaviest bottle outside of champagne bottles I ever opened. Still developing. I think if i tried the next (sadly the last) in 5-8 years, I would be seeing this at it's peak. Recommended.
