April 20, 2014 - Dark crimson color with a sharp, angular nose of dried meat and black fruits. The palate is dry and lifted with a tight grip on limestone slate, currant, and dark cherry notes. Strong, very upbeat and structured with lively acidity. Finishes long with hints of tobacco, graphite, smoke and spice. Not one of my favorite Estate Reds from Chalk Hill. The 2008 came out more balanced and supple. And the 2007 was just as powerful, but had riper, rounder fruit. Drink now with 40 minutes decanting until 2024.
