Community Tasting Note

May 8, 2014 - Tasting at Shafer (Shafer Vineyards): A touch of malbec is blended in with the Merlot in most vintages. Bright red color with notes of cherry, vanilla, currants, florals and chocolate. The palate is very pretty and well-balanced with fruit, structure and acidity. Red fruit and vanilla flavors- bright and lively. 91-93 pts.

The '11s we tasted were on the lighter side perhaps, but very pretty and enjoyable. I ordered a couple of these Merlot in fact. They should drink well over the next 5-7 easy. Shafer purchased an optical sorter and used it for the 2011 vintage, which may have helped as well. There's another '11 we tasted which i haven't posted yet that shows no weakness whatsoever.
