  November 17, 2014 - In most vintages, this is always one of my favorite traditional Riojas (I prefer it to Ardanza), but my first bottle of the 2005 Arana was highly disappointing. It had little nose other than faint cherry and the palate was no better...weak, light, uninteresting. There's some faint cherry notes with just a hint of herbs, but the wines seemed flat and devoid of life. Perhaps it was an off bottle...
  
  Arana changed its label in the 2005 vintage and I've heard that they may have changed the style of this wine. I hope not. Arana has always been one of the great wines of Rioja.
