chardonnay - 30 to 60 year old vines - vineyard blend - La Pellerine, Le Crêt, Arteau - terroir - blue Lias clay on Bathonien limestone - 17 months in old oak barrels - pH 3.11 - free sulfites <6mg/L - total 12 mg/L. Classic Labet, with just that classic reductive winemaking style and a fair bit of white wine volatility. That said, this still tastes might clean and bright for my palate, and is unmistakably Labet with a slight hint of sotolon, plenty of acidity, and still a good amount for white fruit.

This is not a wine that I come across often because I had never considered it to be to my taste.

Nose of crushed olive, smoke, licorice and spices.

The palate retains its vigor, but very soft with an ample attack due to the concentration of the juice. This unfolds all its vigor with aromas of leather, stewed red fruits and pepper. Once the first sensation of intensity has passed, the wine becomes more serene in the second half of the palate. It is always grained, which adds to the pleasure of complexity. The wine then becomes silky and textured on the palate. The balance is excellent with a nice acidity which carries the juice without any feeling of heaviness despite the intensity felt. Large peppery finish, with a seductive length reminiscent of leather aromas.

Excellent!

3h after opening. Lovely aromas of candies cherries, bubblegum, herbs and minerals. Palate w nice slightly candied cherries, minerals, a bit of bubblegum, and herbs. Medium body w excellent concentration and nice acids. Mild tannins on midpalate. Elegant texture. Nice finish of red cherries, herbs, and minerals. Elegant texture. But also delicious.

Kind of a weird wine. Doesn't come off particularly riesling-like but it's also not like any other grape either. Good minerality here, but it's just a bit of a baffling wine to be honest. Not really sure what to make of it. That said, it was actually pretty good.

Emirates lounge. Dark garnet. Rich and rather ripe dark fruit. Seems well integrated already. Fairly short finish.

Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. Traditional style but aged for 1 year in cement and 2 in botti. Softer than the Classico with a touch more plushness. Typical Barolo flavor profile. Good length. Rich and balanced with plenty of life ahead.

Light golden with rigorous beading; fresh and clean style, even smells dry; spritz of lemon over green apple notes; a tad yeasty; attractive spice notes; pleasantly dry and refreshing. Disgorged 2/19. Shared with Xavier94, clearly I enjoyed it more.

Aromas of moderate intensity, apple. Dry, with moderate acidity, moderate to full-bodied, ripe and round, 13.5% abv, otherwise varietally correct. Warm vintage? OK.

Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. Another taste of this wine and It again shows as clean fresh and traditional in style with a light weight texture but big flavor. I rated it a little higher the last time, I think it had more aeration at the Tre Bicchieri tasting recently.

Freaky bottle as this was not well developed; nothing tertiary and slightly vegetal. Likely an off bottle. Eminently drinkable but not consistent with other bottles. A late release.

Rating wines is all about expectations. What do I expect - or want - from a 22 year old village Burg? Truth and beauty, or at least a little of these things. And tonight that’s what I got. An honest Burg, true to form. Really a very pretty nose - strawberries, cherries, some earthy violets. The palate was nicely red fruited, softened beautifully with age. Not silky, but gentle. Plenty of depth, but not powerful. Some nice secondary development in the earthy, mineral vein with everything nicely in place. Good balance, medium body and length. Nothing too much - not overly complex, but not wimpy. It’s satisfying when a village NSG punches above its weight, but there’s a real pleasure in a nicely aged wine showing its virtues but not excessively. Bravo. Compared to the 2010 this is a bit less hedonistic, but with the summer shine of the vintage it still has plenty of life left.

Completely changed over the course of 2yrs. Oak much more integrated, this has entered drinking window. Still young and vibrant, pnp, drinking beautifully.

Tasted blind: Deep garnet with brownish to clear rim; deep nose of dark cherry with spice cabinet and notes of tomato leaf. Very savory umami notes, Worcestershire and sous bois. Another surprisingly good 1990.

Hedonistic but a little unbalanced. Not unlike the Rancia riserva this wine is with a fruity and a noticeable oak backbone(slightly oaky when uncorked and it goes away just afterwards). What sticks to this wine is the stemmy/leafy notes that is almost bitter.

To be honest, this was a little too oaky for me and could have used more zip and acidity. My sense is the winemakers is still trying to dial in the oak for his wines and is cutting back on the new oak in future vintages.

Another Emirates bottle, this time on the ground in their Dubai lounge. Confirms my impression from the last bottle and seems even more advanced this time. Clearly in the yellow fruit spectrum, quince and so on, oak still very noticeable. Not my kind of Corton Charlie.

There is a clear core of dense black cherry and berry here, but it oddly lacks a certain degree of ripeness for the vintage. There is also a faint herbaceous note that adds some complexity but also some bitterness.

Clearly in the richer style of the Keller of old, and I think the vintage played a part of this as well. Still, this is minerally and bright, but a bit big-boned for a feinherb. It's not as crisp and elegant as more recent vintages. That said, this is still pretty impressive in its stature, though I do prefer the modern iterations more.

Seriously good chardonnay. Comes across richer than the French style, with more fruit on the nose and palate, but it's not for want of acidity nor balance. Clearly identifiable as New World with that fruit profile, but counterweighted by the typical Ceritas minerality and acidity. Great stuff.

Really good on Day 2. Classic RR red fruit - cherries, raspberries. 20 second finish. Tartness and fine tannins making me drool but balanced with the sweetness of the fruit. First KB I've had in several years. Great surprise.

Tasted blind: Clearly French Chardonnay; classy apple and pear nose; somewhat austere; a tad hollow for gran cru. Totally shocked to see what it was; I’d guessed it to be a Chassagne1er.

Wow, absolutely outstanding for such peripheral terroir. Rich and balanced, with gorgeous white fruit and intensity here. No reduction, just a good, honest bottle of rich, old-school chardonnay. A seriously grand value of a bottle of Burgundy in a night where we all were complaining about the value proposition in a Four Yorkshiremen sort of way.

Medium ruby. Med plus aromas of cherry jam, sour cherry, cranberry juice, cassis. Dry, high acid, high alcohol, med plus velvety tannins, med finish. A lot of ripe fruits and candy characteristics that might come from carbonic. Not very complex and overripe for my liking. Alcohol is a bit too much too. Some bitterness on the palate. Drink now. Maybe off bottle?

Several people felt something was off with this bottle, and it definitely had a clipped finish and a mute note (one person straight up thought it was mildly corked). But, on the palate, it had nice dark red fruit, a hint of smokiness and minerality, and a vibrancy to it. I believe a sound bottle of this wine would be very compelling.

Now this was the stuff; after a corked '19 a few weeks ago this strutted its stuff; young yes; but full of vibrant orchard fruit, citrus oil, boatloads of crushed stone; very Perrieres and with very good concentration. Lovely stuff. Closed with natural cork which means I'll probably drink my other bottles young too...

Something a little too natty with this, so it tasted a little off for my taste. Nowhere as good as the Táganan. This has some modest salinity but also some off notes that really detract from the overall quality of the wine for me. High acidity.

Intense, dark-fruited, with a heavy streak of green and a massive dollop of tannins. Impressive and old school. I really enjoyed the streak of green, but I'm not particularly pyrazine-sensitive, and it was very pronounced on the palate for me. For others, it may be a little too much.

Decanted. Now 2.5h after decant. Really right after opening. Now shy aromas of blackberries, brambles, hint of olives and roasted meats. Palate w ripe blackberries, herbs, bark, roasted meats, earth and a hint of black olives. Full body with medium+ tannins. More coffee on the midpalate. Nice acids. Nice finish of coffee, earth, bark and blackberries. This is still tight and I suspect is beginning to shut down. But there's really good material herem I think this will be great in another 7-10 yrs. 90+ for now.

Excellent stuff. Doesn't show the ripeness of the vintage. Some reduction here, but this comes across as relatively sedate. It's not screechy with the acidity nor reduction. This has a lovely light touch on the palate, and has good Chassagne richness (the vintage certainly helps). A touch waxy, but never overbearing or heavy.
Red
Lifted and delicate on the palate, but surprising lack of tannins in its structure. Mainly an acid-forward wine, with softer tannins than the older '05 Perrieres that was at the table. Suggests a change of winemaking style with Catherine's and Pierre's daughter Frances taking over the winery. But, despite that, you can still sense the Perrieres terroir signature, one of delicacy and lift, in the '19 as you could from the '05 Perrieres and an '02 Perrieres I had last year.

Much improved over my last bottle of this about 5 years ago. No petillance, just a touch of heat on the finish. Moderate tannins. 3 bottles left, I would guess these have another couple years on this plateau. Way overvalued in the secondary market, but that’s a different issue.

Surprisingly delicate and lifted on the palate, veering towards bright red fruit with racy acidity. Juicy.

Simple and uneventful. For $35 this is a joke. Glad I didn’t pay that. You can do better at Trader Joe’s or Costco for $15 for a light and crushable summer wine. Maybe this is too old already. A mindless white. I do not recommend.

Deep ruby in color; cassis, black cherries, and graphite on the nose; medium acidity; high tannins; tastes like black plums, blackberries, wet slate, and a little eucalyptus with a long finish. I think it's good. Tastes old world to me. Nellie liked it after it decanted for an hour and I agree it was better.

These old pinots have really held up well. They are certainly softer and the fruit is not as crisp but boy I'm so surprised at how lovely they are.
