A cool climate Gruner. Buttercup yellow. Equal parts jasmine and honeysuckle - very fragrant and aromatic. More honeysucke than jasmine on palate with a hint of mead and then the Gruner herbal twist on the finish which has a slight bitter short texture on it that I see as a varietal character of ripe Gruner fruit rather than a winemaking fault. This grows on you. Kind of like a cross between a gewurz and a roussanne.

2017 Bedrock Wine Co, Dolinsek Ranch Heritage, Russian River Valley. The first 2017 that I've opened so of course I had to roll with a Dolinsek (one of the earliest drinking Bedrocks IMHO). This is just absolutely delicious. Brambly raspberry fruit and baking spice explode from the glass. I know 2017 was a 'challenging' vintage....but you'd never know it when drinking this wine. Maybe not the most complex Bedrock ever, but tasty as hell and literally impossible not to like. Well done fellas!

Medium garnet with a wide rainy rim and decent legs.

Perfumed on the nose and mixed with earthy tones with the red fruits hiding in the background - Red cherries, cranberries, wet earth, vanilla, hint of spices and peppercorns. There is some oak presence but not overwhelming.

Medium bodied in the palate with the oak and vanilla notes, red cherries, cranberries, and earthy notes, with a medium, somewhat savoury finish.

This is quite a delicious everyday pinot from Pfalz. Oak is well integrated, however it is a bit one dimensional.

Deeper red fruits that last on the pallet. This Syrah is unique and delicious. Tannins are still present, but this drank fruit forward.

Lemony, with Burgundian minerality and a food-friendly mid-palate. Shorter finish than anticipated, but the elegance wins out.

A savory meal of coffee rubbed grilled beef, black pepper, blackberry pan sauce. Fine tannins offer enough support.

The is classic left bank Bordeaux at great qpr. Pencil lead, gravel, tannins in control, tight structure. Agree with others that fruit is fading some probably best to drink sooner than later unless you like the mushrooms and forest floor beyond fruit

Nose of golden apple, pear, and wet stone minerality. On the palate, citrus zest, a bit of stone fruit, and some white flowers. Nice wine, decent acidity, but have had better, more concentrated, and more complex examples.

Rich and opulent; classic California styling. Lots of sweet tropical and ripe orchard fruits with dominating buttery oak, vanilla, and spice. Definitely “fat” with acidity completely buried by the ripe fruits. Weak finish. Disappointing given the pedigree. Drink now, unlikely to improve with further cellaring.

Deep ruby in colour, purple, opaque in the center, with very slight bricking on the rim, but overall still very wide and translucent. Decent amount of legs as well.

On the nose, very floral right off the gate. Quite black fruit forward as well with blackberries, cassis, blueberries, slight greenness and herbs, along with wet earth, forest floor, tobacco, mocha, and espresso. Wow, such elegance.

Medium bodied on the palate with earthy and leathery notes upfront, with the fruits lingering around in the mid palate. Leather, black tea, wet earth, forest floor, along with the black fruits and cassis. This is quite structured with powerful and grippy tannins, but the acidity keeps all the elements in check and makes me keep going for more. There is minimal heat despite the somewhat high alcohol. Finish is quite exception with a savoury note towards the end.

This is very delicious and elegant, and is drinking quite nicely despite its young age. Can't wait to revisit this in a few years with a bit more bottle age.

-good complexity and power without weight though overall I slightly prefer the Charmes at this stage; I don't love this as much as I think I should

Robe pourpre dense;

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium ruby colour, with fading garnet rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of cherries and raspberry, dried fruit of kirsch, animal notes of roasted meat, oak notes of toast, maturity notes of mushroom and savoury. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and grippy texture, medium (+) in alcohol, with full body, with medium (+) flavours of red fruit of cherries, strawberry and plum, oak notes of toast, kernel notes of toasted sesame. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Barolo with an intense nose showing wonderful complexity, with the wine still relatively young but after sufficient airing the aromas of both fruit, oak and mushroom are robust and mouth-watering. On the palate it is well-balanced, with good structure, with concentrated flavours and long length but not overly powerful or dominating, having good acidity to freshen up for even better enjoyment. Ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Tasted side-by-side with 17' Roulot Porusot. Both were delicious, and while the Porusot had an edge with it's voluptuous orchard fruit, this more lineal Monthélie held its own, showing a bit more acidity and great precision. Lovely wine!

Medium gold. Pronounced nose of brioche some funk, on the palate high acid, medium alcohol, full body. Apples almonds, ginger, more oxidized than I prefer, very restrained bubbles, long finish. It packs intensity on the palate but also finishes kind of soft. Good.

Starting to look like an orange wine.

Aromas of strawberry cream savers hard candies, freeze dried raspberries, candied orange, butterscotch, and whipped cream.

The palate is rich and creamy. Much of the effervescent has calmed down leaving a super lovely mouthfeel. Acid is medium - medium plus. Finish is long. Super solid wine but not exceptionally complex. Very tasty though and well balanced.

Cherries, raspberries, a rounding note of vanilla, and a touch of sandalwood are exhibited in high clarity on both the nose and palate. The mouthfeel is smooth, medium bodied, with a refined finish that meets the fruit notes and holds them in a prolonged fashion. Really delicious. I bought several, and I intend to buy several more.

Nose: smells green upon opening. Eucalyptus. Damp earth/soil.

Palate: nice viscosity/mouthfeel. Some underripe tart red fruit. But not sour. Nice acidity. Minimal tannin but it’s there. Some of that green-ness found on the nose.

Ignoring my last note, popped this with a quick decant and some steaks. This is way too young and doesn’t present the best QPR today, but I’m very confident there’s a flip coming in another 5-10 years when secondary notes come in. This wine is all about quality, finesse and restraint and has potential to be 95+ with time.

2 bottles. One completely gone, one with marginal remnants of its original character. Orange translucent rim, some strawberry and olive on nose, tart on palate, lean, with some tannin, and minimal fruit. Not enjoyable.

Balanced and smooth, this wine does everything nicely without hitting any high notes. It has a relatively big body, shows red and dark fruits, has moderate alcohol (13%), some mineral, spice and pleasing bitterness. No hurry to drink these, but I don’t know if it will improve. Very good QPR.

A WTSO special. Very yummy!

Color. Saturated red/purple

Nose. Cherries, kirsch, cocoa, pencil lead, alcohol

Palate. Backwards, cocoa, cherries, astringent. Needs time.

If you're sitting on any of these bottles, wait 3-5 years.

Heavier on the red fruit and lighter on the spice than I was a expecting for a Rhône Valley wine. A little acidic for my taste, but nice long finish. At first I thought I maybe opened it too early, but then I saw the drinking window ended in 2024 so that couldn’t be it. It’s a decent wine, but not one I would buy again.

Very pretty wine. Silky and smooth. Red and black fruited. Hints of lovely baking spices, vanilla pudding, melted licorice, pie crust, chocolate and spring flowers. Medium + body, Great lifting acidity, smooth tannins. This will get even better.

Tasted with the Brion Caldwell ‘18 which we thought had more layers or complexity at the stage.

No one does it better. Open up front. Deep and dark in the back. Huge sweet bramble fruit- cassis, leather, meat, olive. Tannins are there, certainly young but not a wall. Consistent with a maker that is always expressive, always a wine of character. A beast in the making. Recommend 2/3 hour decant.

Right out of the bottle I thought it was nice, sweet and dark with a rustic edge that brought it some interest. But as it sat in the bottle it got spritzier somehow and also sweeter, almost reminding me of a Dr. Pepper at one point. Bryn said she didn’t like the spritz so I splashed it into a decanter but even so it took forever for that spritz to blow off. Finally after like 2 hours in the decanter it was in a good spot; lots of black cherry, licorice, wet clay, savory herbs. Great acidity and lift with medium body. I wanted the tannins to be just a touch more present but it somehow maintains a nice balance. Not sure if I would buy again for the $50 I paid for it but it was interesting and enjoyable.

This is holding on like a true champion. The cork was soaked through, but the fill was past the high shoulder. Bricking, this is like an aged burgundy in colour. Mahogany, weathered leather, old library, dried cherries and old tobacco leaf. A medium body with a long, savory finish. There’s some tomato plant at the end. No reason to wait - obviously. No evident tannin, with some fine qualities. Rare and delightful. Drink now -?

The last review, from 2021, said it could use more time. I agree, but in 2024, even if it could use more time, it is exceptional. Best Cayuse I have had in years. Funk level was low, fruit was dark and present, but everything was in balance - tasted like a well-aged northern Rhône. I have a love-hate relationship with Cayuse, but this was squarely in the love box.

Funky for an hour or so, but with air it opens up to gorgeous jammy fruit, myriad spices and herbs, buddleia and violets, this is gorgeous Cab Franc... Spicy and vegetal on the palate, blue and black fruits are very tangy and there's a hint of jam and overripeness, but I like the balance here, tannins are velvety and soft... Finish is tangy and wild, this was great with steak, and I think you should definitely have it with some food , probably red meat...
