Modern rich fruit with a soft palate and syrah-like secondary components. There was a olive flavor along with blueberry, slight vanilla and underbrush.

This a flavorful medium-bodied red with excellent depth & balance. It has a nose of deep dark berries & your first mouthful is a burst of those dark fruits... dark cherry, dark plum highlighted by notes of cedar, dark chocolate & clove. The tannins are well integrated & the finish is short and smooth. In my opinion... this is a most delightful drinking wine that would be great with food or on it's own.

Tasted alongside the 2014 Calera de Villiers, this was lively, elegant, stunning. The price difference between the two makes me sad. :( Medium bodied with raspberry, cherry and loamy earth.

{screwcap, 13.9%} Young still, a mix of black fruit and cola. Soft tannins, moderate acidity. Seems a but confused about its identity; you don’t often see these two grapes blended. Juicy and ripe but a bit nondescript. Medium weight, medium length finish. Fair.

Straw color in the glass. A bit of funk at first, but then some light floral notes hit followed by some freshly sliced golden apples.

Stony bitter minerality at the forefront buttressed by zippy lemon zest and flecks of white pepper. Slight rose petal at the finish.

The acidity was almost there, but the lemony palate as a substitute works quite well. Simple, yet with a singing lemon note that gives the wine a medium+ finish. Perhaps the fruity notes would emerge with some rich, flavorful food such as Indian or Korean.

88 pts.

COS Winemaker Dinner (San Diego, CA): Night jasmine, candied orange, peach compote, honey, tajin and white pepper on the nose. High intensity of aromas. Smells like it's going to be lusciously sweet. The palate loses the flowers, makes the fruit a tad fresher and adds green almonds and bitter herbs. Tastes drier than you'd think it would from the nose. I'd rank it closer to medium sweet. Finishes with a burst of orange juice and lingers on the palate for around 45 seconds.

Medium + body with medium - acid. 16% alcohol but hard to detect. Great pairing with a cannoli

Tasted alongside the 2013 Jensen, this was so much bigger, bolder, more earth, dark fruits, dense, less lively. It remained a pleasant pinot.

Really savoury, almost no fruit left. Turned earth, mocha, some dried florals, cardamom, leather, cigar box. Wood is still pretty prominent, tannins still firm.

Dark fruit, iron, orange peel and spice on the nose and palate. It was quite dense and slightly brooding yet the palate still welcomed you with its sweetness. It should improve with aging but it is already drinking well, especially for an 05. 92-93

Drank a small glass over an hour. This was in a lineup with two chardonnays. While it stood out, I understood the resemblence as well. Its as if the Rhone variety's lift the larger chardonnay and give more structure. Quite floral, honey, beeswax, apricots and a viscous mouthfeel.

COS Winemaker Dinner (San Diego, CA): The oldest Cerasuolo di Vittoria I've ever had. This definitely makes the case for aging these; as well as why Cerasuolo di Vittoria deserves DOCG status in general.

Over ripe black cherries, over ripe red plums, over ripe blueberries, old wood, burnt rubber and tobacco on the nose. High intensity of aromas. The palate adds cumin and cardamom, while also showing a burst of ripe red fruits - mostly red cherries and raspberries. There's a hint of plastic/reduction as well. Overall, tastes younger than it smells. Medium + intensity of flavors.

Medium bodied with great medium + acid for the age, medium - tannin and a 30 second length of finish. Drinking very well now. It's probably at peak but I must say I am still curious as to where it will go from here. I would love to try it with another 3-5 years on it.

Great pairing with grilled lamb chops.

An intriguing blend. Dark fruit and earth on the nose, with hints of mocha, cinnamon, and seaweed. Bright, creamy cassis and chocolate on the palate. Spicy purple licorice, straw, and vanilla bean on the finish (with residue of the fruit and chocolate flavors noted above). 87-88 on the first pour. 88-89 after it opens up and the flavors settle.

COS Winemaker Dinner (San Diego, CA): 100% Grecanico

Jasmine, meyer lemon, ripe apricot, ripe yellow apple, ripe pear on the nose. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate adds lemon juice and white pepper; and the condition of the tree fruit changes to under ripe. Medium + intensity of flavors.

Medium + body with medium acid. Drinking well now, could age 2-3 more years in the bottle too. Paired with a shrimp risotto, which was overwhelmed by this wine. Would make a great pairing with a simpler seafood dish.

Amazingly racy, this sparkler has a lot of energy and acid. The acidic finish persists for a long time. This is a different animal than methode champenoise, happy to try it at $73 but not sure I'd be a buyer at full price.

Good to revisit my last bottle of 96 CDLR after 7 years. The wine was classic but also ethereal with darkish red fruit, spice, flowers, and perfume. It had wonderful fruit purity with a weightless mid palate attack. Drinking in a sweet spot now. 95-96

COS Winemaker Dinner (San Diego, CA): Candied orange, over ripe yellow peach, over ripe melon, jasmine, soursop, anise, plsatic and cream on the nose. Something powdery too, almost like smarties candies (as we know them in the us). Smells quite complex, with a medium + intensity of aromas. Sharper on the palate, though still quite primary and consistent with the nose as far as types of fruits of (if not their condition - they're less over ripe). Adds a subtle hint of barnyard. Medium + intensity of flavors. Nice long finish (around 30 seconds)

Medium body with medium acid. This made an amazing pairing with a halibut crudo, seasoned with fennel. Literally, I am buying half a case of this for future raw-fish pairings. Drink now.

Golden yellow with a nose of subtle pineapple and a taint of Riesling like petrol. Fruit is mellow on the palate but silky smooth and long lasting on the finish but definitely fading.

Aromatically deep and rich for Muscadet, but that doesn't mean it's just billowing from the glass, there's still some searching required, there's mystery and mercury here...

Apple, quince, underripe pineapple, vague citrus (tangerine? clementine?), peppery broth, lettuce, narcissus, a little lanolin and sweet almond... Dense and textured on the palate, crisp and salty, subtle bitterness, like apple and pear skins, zesty and vaguely peppery... Persistent finish is salty and herbal, crunchy fruits linger as well, this has grip and sustain to spare. Oysters please!

COS Winemaker Dinner (San Diego, CA): Barnyard, lemon peel, blood orange, spearmint, cranberry and tart red cherries on the nose. Great mix of fruit and non fruit, with a medium + intensity of aromas. The palate is more primary, and the condition of the fruit is riper. Loses the barnyard, which was such a nice part of the nose (strange for me to say that, knowing my palate; but it was nicely integrated here). Finishes with limestone and dirt. Medium intensity of flavors. Texturally a tad thin; but not in a bad way.

Medium - body with medium + acid and medium - tannin. Fresh, tart and light. Chill this and pair it with seafood. Probably best to drink now. Can't really see it improving with bottle age.

Smells like a lean lemon icee, like a promise of things to come.
Palate follows suit, a linear laser of acid and mineral that manages to convey nuance and variation while staying within a very narrow spectrum of flavor. The dry mineral streak comes to the fore on the long and persistent finish.
A very nice entry point to this producer’s catalog, polished and precise. Use it to cut through whatever you may be eating.
Still feels like it may gain weight and openness with more time. Note to self- hold til 2026 at least.

Really a fun wine. Oily and dry texturally, good acid, pervasive finish.
Almond, grapefruit, and mineral, with a touch of saltiness- for the win. An odd combination, in that it is so reminiscent of some Jura wines, without the influence of flor.
Very fun, educational, and pleasing in its own right.

Pop and pour. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, and Aligoté made according to the traditional method.

Bright straw/pale yellow in the glass. Nose of lemon zest, a bit of creaminess, and ripe pineapple. On the palate it’s incredibly bright with lemon, tart green apple, and white peach. Decent creaminess, a bit of the brioche/nutty note. It’s dry, medium bodied, high acidity, and has a short minerally finish. Bubbles are very fine.

It’s good even if it’s unidimensional.

Day one - Delicious wine. Fantastic company.

Day two - Zalto
Rusty cranberry color, wide watery meniscus, bricking on the edges.
With overnight aeration in the bottle, the aromas start to show their age. A faint dusty aroma starts to lay over the cranberries and tart cherry aromas, soil and morel mushrooms add depth.
Perfectly composed in the mouth. Great acid, fully integrated tannins, just mouth watering. Tart cherry, hints of black tea, savory morels, and orange rind all create a kaleidoscope of flavor.
The long lingering finish remains, savory and mouthwateringly tart.

Day two- Zalto Burgundy glass
Bing cherries, soy, morels, and a little forest floor on the nose.

Incredibly composed, good acid and tannins, another mouthwatering experience. There are dark and red cherries, orange peel, cola, and savory mushrooms dancing across the palate.

Really stellar wine that is in a great place currently. Still quite vigorous with just the beginnings of tertiary development starting to show.

Wow, this wine is so close to being over the top that you have to stop and categorize all the attributes of this wine. The fruit is huge cherry and plum. Tannins are abundant but well integrated. Nose is from another planet; one can smell it three feet from the glass. The finish is beyond long, with a slight pepper tinge. Folks should be talking about this offering. I'm buying more tonight! This wine has a long life ahead of it. Was decanted three hours. I may decant longer next time.
