Red fruit on the nose. Notes of strawberry, rhubarb, spice and hint of vanilla on the palate. End of drinking window, but this falls of quickly lacking depth. Nice but lacking QPR.

Still going strong, fully integrated, a great drop and super value. From a magnum
Red - Fortified
Very distinctive nose which I couldn't quite put my finger/ nostril on. Something like a peach kernel with an earthy and also floral quality,
Intense acidity on the palate, apricots, brown sugar, raisin and toffee. Coming back to this after trying older tawnies and that stone fruit note was particularly vivid, like a viognier.
Really nothing at all like Port or any other fortified wine.

Certainly very tasty, although a bit overpriced- feels more like a solid $25 Bdx blend than something $35-$40. Kind of small-scaled and simple. Good balance of fruit and freshness. Faint and a little thin, but there's a suggestion of carefully ripened blackberry and some vague chocolatey baking spice, very ripe but not baked or jammy; kind of "high and tight" with gentle tannins. If you find this for $25 (such as at Total Wine) its maybe a 93 if I'm being very generous, but it's more often about $10 more than that. 2020 definitely isn't my favorite WA red vintage either, especially for Bdx varietals. I've enjoyed all the Mark Ryan wines I've tried so far, but haven't been blown away by any either (the Megan Anne Pinots are my faves.)

Full-bodied, smooth, and almost completely lacking in acidity, with flavors of plum compote, strawberry jam, and vanilla ice cream. For a budget Zinfandel, it's actually quite alright. But not to my taste anymore.

(It’s hard to imagine that once upon a time, Zinfandel was actually my favorite grape... 😅)

Blackberry & raspberries on the nose. Beautiful balance of fruit, acidity and fully resolved tanins on the palate. Excellent. Sadly, the last bottle of a case.

Drinks with Steen Öhman (Wine Bar La Cuverie de Vosne-Romanée, Vosne-Romanée, France): Bottle No. 043 / 137. Not decanted. Rich and concentrated but transparent and precise, griotte and rose, hugely energetic chalky minerality, deep yet lifted, perfect weight (13% ABV), wonderful acidity, quite structured and in that sense almost Bordeaux-like, firm but finely grained tannins, slighty sweet oak, very long and layered finish. Very impressive if somewhat unusual in style.

A relief: a good condition bottle after the faulty 2020 I had recently. Vibrant mid-purple, not opaque. On the nose, plums and cherries and a good dose of sweet vanilla. The palate is surprising: sweet fruit and vanilla, yes, but unusually high acidity. (The 2020 had that too, as well as secondary fermentation and possibly brett.) I've never had an Aussie Shiraz that is so 'bright.' I think the winemaker just about gets away with it, but it's right on the edge of being out of balance. The relatively high alcohol adds to the wine's assertive attack. The fruit length is short, but the acid tingles on my tongue for quite some time. 14.5%, screwcap.

This bottle has been aging nicely. At 14 years, it is showing very nicely. It is distinct in its Bordeaux flavors that are stong and well blended. Still slightly fruity perspective and wonderful smoothness along with very dry fine tannins that are still gripping and long lasting, For sure this wine was just waiting for the time in bottle to start showing like it has. Probably It will drink as well for at least 2-3 more years before it starts diminishing.

Pleasure to return to one of the finest Chardonnays of Austria. The vines were planted in 1959 under the assumption that it was Pinot Blanc. A wine which put Velich family on international fine wine map. Aged in FR oak for 24 months. Intense complex aroma of smoke, lemons, seashells, flint, white flowers, matchstick, brioche, biscuits, iodine. Medium+ body, elegant & velvety structure, creamy and lively, great depth and power with saline quince and smoky flinty reductive flavours, lively well integrated acidity.

Made from a single varietal of Chardonnay of 20-40 year old vines, spontaneous fermentation, aged on its lees for 24 months in old FR oak barrels. Medium+ intensity aroma of mildly reductive complex notes of flint, matchstick, lemons, orange zest, limes, biscuits, smoke, peach. Medium+ body, pleasantly creamy and juicy with crisp and vibrant acidity, echoing flavours from aroma, flinty mineral character.

Must and a touch old. Or old style, definately delicious more than I thought

‘TO’ from Hungarian translates to ‘lake’ a tribute for the lake Neusiedl, which has decisive influence to the region of Burgenland. Made from Chardonnay based blend with 15% SB and Welschriesling. Pale golden colour. Medium+ intensity fresh and tropical aroma of papaya, mango, gooseberries, orange blossoms, grapefruit peel. Medium+ body, juicy and fruity, full of freshness and pleasant herbaceousness, creamy edges, medium+ bright acidity, touch of grapefruit bitterness at the finish.

Light gold with, I think, a glimpse of green. A strange and not very attractive nose: is it oxidised? It's *something* strange! The palate has that same unexpected and not very pleasant savoury, even metallic, nature. The merchant I bought it from said it wasn't in the style of other Torrontes; he was right: there is none of the glorious aromatics, the hedonistic fruit 'n' flower cocktail I love in the variety usually. (The back labels says I'll find those fruits - it's wrong, way wrong.) Medium-full bodied, some residual sugar, some acidity to balance. Round the edges of the drinking experience there's a suggestion of preserved lemon and lime - a hint of what might have been. Not sure if this is a bad bottle or a misconceived wine. Cork, 13.5%.

Lovely pencil lead nose, a hint of heather, of spice. Palate is in great balance, medium fine tannins, middle weight and lovely structure. This is just a little better than it should be. Very welcome after a tough day and a rainy commute.

Rather strict style. Bright acidity, aromas of apple and some citrus, chalk and toast. It is very elegant but not too much complex. Probably it will improve with further storage, I believe that grand cru Chardonnay could show more

Really liked this. Earth, hay, strawberries covered in dirt on the nose. Rasperries, green stems, sour cherry and some cola on the palate. Juicy, not too much acid. Fun and easy to crush.

Pear and Wet Hay. A little honey and roundness from oxidation. Really nice.

Aerated for about 1 hour, served in a Burgundy Glass. Pale golden colour.

Nose: Flor yeast, golden delicious apple and pear at first. Lemon zest, salted almonds, savoury herbs and hints of exotic fruit follow as well. Towards the end, the wine shows bread rind, chalk and bay leaf.

Palate: Golden delicious apple, pear, lemon zest and yeast on the palate, notes of savoury herbs come through afterwards. Very fresh acidity, noticeable viscosity and salinity. Bread rind, smoke, salted almonds and herbs on the finish.

Really interesting, basically Jura meets Südsteiermark. Flor yeast grew in one of the three barrels this wine was made from and they decided to stick with it.

Malbec that comes from Finca Pedraza, a plot of 2 hectares of limestone soils with a high presence of sands and clays, located at an altitude of 1000 m with an extreme climate. It ferments in stainless steel tanks, malolactic and aged for 15 months with battonage on its lees in French oak barrels. Ripe black and red fruit, spices, toasted, mineral, concentrated, powerful, elegant, pleasant, spacious and persistent.

I had mixed feeling here. There is a lot of intensity, lot of depth and impressive delineation. But this young, this is just too dense, too intense to be truly enjoyed. One downside is, that I clearly had alcohol heat on the nose (it could not hide the 14% alcohol that well).

Decanting: I would not open this right now, better to wait a decade. If opened now I would give it two hours in the decanter.

Shiny, medium-pale greenish-gold. Citrus, green apple, yellow apple, pear, white flowers, glue, honey and oyster shell. Medium bodied, medium acidity, medium structure, medium alcohol and long mineral finish. Fragrant, sophisticated and feminine. Sweet floral nose upon opening. Slightly viscous, off-dry palate.

The nose of this bottle resembled a mature dry white Bordeaux, mixed with honey.

This was a good study in that the 2016s need air. At first a bit muted, quite medicinal and that balanced, this opened up more and more, became more harmonious, refined with the fruit becoming brighter and delicate floral notes coming forward. Very promising but needs time and air. 93+pts

TN: Very intense bouquet with tons of dark cherries, smoke, stems, some menthol. Intriguing but intense and quite ripe nose. On the palate there is a lot of menthol, some medicinal notes, ripe cherries, some smoke and stems atound the red fruit core. Gets rounder and softer with the fruit coming out more and more the longer it sits in the glass. Last sip was best with exploding red berries and floral fruits towards the finish. Lots of finesse and good freshness, airy texture, good balance (with time).

Decanting: At least an hour in a decanter is advised.

Pale faded ruby colour. Low scent on the nose. Pinewood and resin and some herbal notes. Taste muted with not much fruit at all. Oak, lavender, some slight cherries. Probably to many years over the top. Sour acidic but not vinegar. Still it went better after a few hours decanted. The cork was also rather fragile.

At the top level, the 2014s are not ready to drink and this Chevy from Leflaive was another reminder of that. At first closed, it only slightly opened up with time, showing promising complexity and precision, but it yet has to fill out and gain that oomph factor.

TN: At first muted nose, with time a subtle bouquet full of citrus and sea shell minerality. On the palate more concentration, full of fine citrus, some floral notes, minerality and a beauitful salinity. Got better and better and the last sips were quite good to but likely displaying only a fraction of what it has in store in the future.

Decanting: This needed a good hour in the decanter to open up.
