Crimson in color. 13.8% ABV. Stunning nose of red fruits, olive brine, leather and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Dark, bright, intense fruits in spades. Cherry syrup, olive tapendade, blood and minerals on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. The characteristics associated with The Rocks Districe are ever present but compellingly subtle. Savory Tempranillo that will be best over the next 1-2 years.

This wine really benefits from some air. On first opening strong tannins and minerality dominate. However, after about 2 hours of air (open, not decanted) things are much improved.

The nose is very forthcoming: minerals, fruit (redcurrants, cherries?). The palate is light, nicely balanced: red fruit, chalky and slatey minerality, light tannins now, just a little acidity. The minerality lingers on the finish.

It seems to me that this is very much a wine of its place, with a distinctive character, and really very nice indeed.

At the ~US$29.5 that I paid this is very definitely a repeat buy.

Fifth time tasting since Oct. 2022: About as good as zinfandel gets, if you like the fresh, fruity style. Lots of powerful red fruit aromas, slightly translucent ruby color, lots of sweet, mostly red fruit flavors with a long and slightly hot aftertaste. We'll drink our others in the next year before dipping into the 2020's.

Drink now. Round, tannins resolved, blue fruit, perhaps a bit flabby. Stood up to brisket.

Liked it more than the fixin but wasn’t feeling 100% so didn’t really have a good position to evaluate.

Took a bit to open. Seems a bit muted at the moment. Better day 2. Nice pepper, red fruit notes. I kept pouring little taste back in my glass, so that’s a good sign.

Another one from Acker Retail bites the dust. It wasn’t oxidized or a cork taint, rather fully stunted aromatically. Very similar to what happens when you leave a bottle in the food fridge for too long - kills any primary or otherwise wafty aromas (was expecting honey, butter popcorn, and hazelnut here). Left a tart and acidic body as well. Will just say that I’m not convinced this bottle wasn’t fake - there were bits of cork in the bottle despite a fully intact cork and I had a nasty inflammatory reaction the next morning…

Light nice color. Scent of nettles and currant leaves. Great complex fresh and full-bodied. Clear citrus with a floral element. Mineral lime and asparagus. Good

Golden yellow. Big full-bodied with hints of honey. Floral fragrance. Full fresh citrus. Slightly oily, greasy character. Long somewhat spicy. Very good.

In the old days, when it came to having a perfect wine for asparagus, there was always Keller's ''Grüner Silvaner''. Affordable, around 7.80 euros, and always a perfect match for that. Somehow my contact with Keller has completely broken off in the last few years and this Grüner Silvaner from Wagner Stempel is a viable and imo even a superior alternative!

PnP, screw cap, 12% Alc., yellow color.

Nose: Reduction, a bit of yellow fruit, good freshness.

Palate: Clear and taut, a bit of green vinho verde, a bit of reduction, delicate yellow fruit, nice ripe acidity with bite, harmonious. But most important, a perfect match to asparagus! Price at around 12 euros.

This is an organic wine unfiltered, so stands out for its dry natural citrus base. It’s made from a local Hungarian grape which seems similar to Sauvignon Blanc in character. Light on the noise, first impression tart grape with a pleasant acid finish.
This is my first try of the wine and I didn’t pair it with food. If I can obtain more in the US, I’ll pair it with shell fish next try

Served by simply popping and pouring. It showcased smooth tannins, providing a pleasant mouthfeel. The fruity body of the wine exhibited good weight and structure, with flavors of plums and blackberries. While the acidity was on the lower side, it still maintained a balanced profile. While it paired well with food, it lacked the complexity and finesse.

This is such a great bottle of wine. Fourrier really nailed the 2007 vintage. This is as red fruited as you will see CSJ. Glorious really with red, dark red, cherry ore mineral, spices, balanced and pure as all get out! This is a great bottle to have guarding your cellar!

This is rather Beaujolais Cru quality. Cheerful, juicy but also quite structured. Ripe, dark, black cherry nose with a bit of the trademark hibiscus note of the whole bunches, so inviting. Beautiful textured, velvety, it’s just medium-bodied, but quite dense. Great, firm tannins provide a proper backbone. Very good. Great value for 10,50€, highly recommended.

This wine has aged nicely. The tannins are soft and the wine is very much ready to drink. No need to decant, it opens nicely in the glass. The color is an intense purple and while the nose is limited you still get abundant fruit on the palate. Owing to its Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cab Sauv, and Cab Franc, the two Cab grapes deliver an increasingly herbaceous note as the wine opened. The presence of Merlot and Cab Sauv in near equal measure doesn't overshadow the Marzemino even at just under 10%. The Merlot and Marzemino both drive the fruit forward experience. This wine is reminiscent of a Super Tuscan but with much more fruit and much less heft.

Good Barolo and Barbaresco (67 Pall Mall): A welcome last-minute addition to the line-up. Oh so good - this is sexy wine. Gently floral nose, with some ginger to add intrigue. Admirably fresh on the palate, with plenty of fruit remaining. Showed similarly to a bottle in 2022; there's upside here for good bottles. My #4 wine tonight.

Bright lemony lemon, green apple, lemon balm, tangerine, a bit of funky cat piss (not a negative here), and a dusting of white pepper. The body though is fairly full for a Gruner, silky even, quite honeyed at first, with more white pepper and a long, lingering finish, salt and pepper dancing across the tongue. The acidity is high, for sure, but it doesn’t smack you in the face – that first sip, especially, eases you in gently.

Lemon, apricot, chalk, and a touch of buttery lemon cake on the nose. Bright palate with lemon zest and some light and unexpected violet and pink grapefruit, with a mouthwatering finish with more peach and dried apricot. A pleasant Prosecco for a sunny day.

Good color. The nose shows aromas of wild berries, cedar, flowers, game and a bit of spices. This is medium bodied on the palate with very good concentration and good class. The medium plus length finish features moderate tannins and good acidity. This is a bit tired...

Intense nose, loads of blackcurrant and black cherry, some cherry liqueur, alongside oaky notes of vanilla, chocolate, and brown sugar. The palate is likewise pretty plummy and concentrated, but with a pleasant red-cherry acidity, and a finish of fleshy plumminess plus herbaceous and bitter notes. I really wish there was more structure here – it feels big and fat – but there’s a reason this is a go-to for fans of big, oaky wines. And I have to say I still enjoyed myself.

Good Barolo and Barbaresco (67 Pall Mall): Seemed readier than the Fratelli to me. Deep, spicy, classic tar/roses nose that became increasingly floral with air. Good acidity and grip on the palate, with some orange peel and balsamic. Some mothball as well...! A bit overshadowed tonight, but fine nonetheless.

Cherry, blueberry, raisin on the nose, with a plate of fleshy black cherry, framboise eau-de-vie, leather, and chocolate-covered raisin. This is much darker and bigger than I would expect from a Zweigelt-based blend, and I’d definitely like some more red fruit and tang, but it is enjoyable.

Drank at a cabin trip. Didn't have time to really analysis the wine but I remember it being more fruit forward that red Burgundy wines but not to a point it is jammy. Would go well with foods like bbq, mediterranean, burgers with bacon. Wine has many years left in it.

In some ways a by-the-books Northern Rhone Syrah. Dark cherry notes with smoked plum, black olive, mint, and a long, forest-floor finish, with a tannin structure that’s very much present but by no means overwhelming. We split a bottle of this with a rack of lamb and some beef tartare, nailed it.

From a small bottle. Decanted 2 hours. The first glass (after 2 hours in the decanter) was great, surprisingly accessible. After another hour, the fruit faded slightly into the background and it became more tannic. Another hour later it turned again. Certainly the best is yet to come, but even at this stage it is a really great wine. 95 pts. at the moment
