As always and in every vintage, I love this wine. The old vines intensity brings verve and subtle complexity to the very mineral and salty fruit. It’s slightly effervescent, refreshing and gulpable, and very delicious.

Definitely in the crowd-pleasing camp, but not over the top. This is a really good value and I actually enjoyed it. Will keep a couple around for weekday fare.

A delicious Pinot noir and quite a bargain, too. Deeply colored with a nose showing black cherry, violets, crème brûlée. Elusive hint of cola very late on the nose. On the palate, velvety structured with firm tannins, medium acidity, very long finish. Fantastic aging potential here. 91 now, could reach 93-94 at full maturity.

This felt like a traditional Barolo, but definitely had more of a fruit presence than the '19 Ratti Marcenasco or the '19 Vajra Bricco delle Viole; it felt a little slick in comparison to those two wines. Still relatively austere, but if I had to drink a traditionalist '19 right now, this would be it (but it really needs more time).

Blackberry on the nose.

Really soft on the palate. Higher acid cab. Very consistent from the front of the palate to the end. No detectable tannins. Good finish but not a long finish.

Decanted 90 minutes. super grippy tannins; darker fruit, mushroom, forest floor, tar, anise; with a rich pasta the tannins softened and this really hit its stride. def needs a decant; not sure those tannins will ever fully resolve as there is a trade off of the fruit declining with age vs the tannins softening. probably recommend drinking but see if a longer decant will help smooth out the finish; or just make sure you have this with fairly rich food!

5/12. 10.5% abv. AP 01. Will I upgrate this by tomorrow? Dazzling. eventful stuff. Shocking to smell, like a stocked pincushion, like shards of green glittering rock. A drink is variously explosive with brittle salt, hurried with green strawberry, green caraway seed, and pretty sensations too. It's replete with Mosel Riesling typicity (red delicious / ginger / lime / cassis / knee-deep spring blossom litter.) All the way dry, arguably assertive in that regard, while it delivers repeated blows of pungent fruits, cultured roots, and flowers.

Random Langtons auction purchase as ai can't remember trying Botrytis Chardonnay before.
Not a lot of the citrus marmalade and creme brulee character I associate with botrytis...could be that's a difference between botrytis Chard and Sem but I wouldn't have thought so. This seems more late harvest that botrytis as it's a bit raisin-y. Maybe heat-affected and slightly madeirised. I don't get any distinctive Chardonnay characters but I admit to not knowing what botrytis Chard should be like.

Very disappointing, only a 375mL but still drunk less than half and tipped rest down the sink. Too old? Heat-damaged? Just a poor wine to begin with? Unsure, at least it was cheap.

This is a beautiful wine, of balance, savoury nuance and pure cherry fruit. It has some earth and wild herbs and perfect ripeness. Tannins have just the right amount of chew and support and acidity is fresh and minerally. Each sip invites another and there are subtle florals that come to the fore with air.

Last bottle was enjoyed with friends over a boisterous dinner, just a week ago, when I didn't have the time/space to really dig in to the wine. Tonight, it's just me and the bottle. Bright moderately deep golden straw color. Nose has a dense florality, mineral backbone, lemon oil top notes, hints of a slightly sweet almond paste then full on ripe golden peach. Lots of depth to it. Wow, taking a sip, really great wave of lush stony citrus, segueing into a long mango pucker finish. Again, lots of layers to this. Both easy drinking and notably complex. Damn. And each sip brings out other teases. (point wise I started at 93... 10 minutes later bumped it up... 10 minutes more bumped it up again... fantastic stuff.)

Beautifully aromatic and lifted nose of roses, pine tar, and cherries (i.e., smells like classic Nebbiolo). On the palate, pretty red fruit, elegant weight on the palate, great acidity, classic BdV verticality, but very firm and drying tannins that will need a long time to fully resolve. However, at the moment, you get a window into its future (the fruit really is quite nice) before the tannins come crashing down and brutalizing your palate. I can see this shutting down hard in the next couple of months.

This is going to be a wonderful, classic rendition of BdV once it matures.

Still going strong! Love this Champagne! Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Still a benchmark Champagne I think I will never tire of drinking! Still a solid 98!

Presented blind, the most pertinent sensation is atmospheric elevation, or at least somewhere moderate in climate, in soil well drained. I'm not sure if that describes its origin, but that's how it drinks. Pinot Noir typicity here is thoroughly buried under appealing grape flavor. I notice inclinations of shaded stone, menthol stem, and black tea. Aromatic; brought to the bottle in robust health; I would wait 2 years before drinking another bottle (if I had one.)

Decanted and poured into a Riedel Bdx glass. This is fully mature and in a good place. The color is deep and dark. Nose is mostly tertiary and secondary but there is some beautiful sweet dark fruit under the surface. Hints of tobacco & green leaves along with soy and carob and a wonderful nuttiness. Old study. The fruit is black cherry along w hints of cassis. Very refined. Maybe missing just a bit in amplitude. The palate is excellent - similar to nose but sweeter and a bit fuller. Still gentle and mature - more silky and classy than assertive. The alloy of the sweet dark 82 fruit with the tobacco and carob umami is lovely. Lots of velvety sweet fruit comes out in the middle: blackberry, black cherry and just a bit of cassis. There is a bitter lean point and the end middle. The finish starts out a little mute and lean but a really nice Unami nuttiness comes out w hints of the sweet fruit. A recent purchase from Acker’s internet auction for like $75 and I’m very happy with this. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16-17.5/20.

The grapes are harvested from the Cru Vorberg. Fermented in old 7000 to 3000-liter oak casks, full MLF, aged for 12 months in oak casks. 13,5% alcohol, 1,2 g/l residual sugar and 5,9 g/l acidity.

Youthful, quite intensely-colored yet not deep yellow-green appearance. The nose feels expressive with quite intense aromas of sweet yellow fruits like peach and pineapple, some apple jam tones, a little bit of stony minerality, light smoky notes of struck flint, a hint of rubbery reduction and a touch of extracted spice. The wine feels quite big and broad-shouldered on the palate with a full body, a slightly oily mouthfeel and intense flavors of white peach and ripe apricot, some stony mineral tones, a little bit of cantaloupe, light extracted spicy notes, a hint of fresh pineapple and a touch of chalky bitterness. The acidity feels impressively high for a big and ripe wine like this. The finish is ripe, long and spicy with an intense aftertaste of peach, some apple jam, light honeyed tones, a little bit of spicy extraction, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of chalky bitterness.

A big and quite ripe yet not fat, heavy or ponderous white with lots of substance, structure and finesse. At first the wine feels a bit closed with its somewhat reductive tones, but after some aeration the wine starts to open up, turning into an impressively expressive beast after about half an hour or so. Although the wine is still pretty youthful, it is starting to get past its primary phase and finally entering its drinking window - which is most likely going to be pretty wide. Although the wine is quite superb already now, I feel it is going to evolve and improve for at least another decade, if not more. Drink or keep - this is going to be an outstanding Pinot Blanc either way. This was very reasonably priced at 47€ per bottle in Compagnia dei Vinattieri, Siena.

Absolute stunner. This is open for business after a couple hours. There is modernity here, but it's appreciated by me given all the earthiness and herbal spice. Best bottle to date for me. I just love this wine.

This is a big, powerful, and refined wine. Archetypal Nebbiolo nose of rose, tar, and cherries. The palate has rather understated dark fruit, good acidity, but a slightly plush and easy texture in the mouth. Definitely some grip on the palate with the tannins (this will need more time than the '19 Le Vigne to fully resolve), but I do wish this was a touch firmer.

An interesting study of the Cannubi Boschis terroir married with the modern-leaning winemaking of Sandrone. Speaking to the winemaker, she confirmed that this wine undergoes a 12-day maceration, which may be why this feels a little soft to me. However, the dark, brooding character of Cannubi Boschis shines through, and there is no oaky gloss or aromas to obscure it (elevage takes place in 500 liter French oak tonneaux).

Heavy and fruity; stronger than expected for a burgundy. Not a lot of complexity but for a low cost pinot it was fine but more new world than old world. Would work better with a burger than a steak. Will see how it develops over the next year. Irancy worth exploring further for value.

This is a selection from a block in a vineyard on alluvial soils in the Marchigüe zone on the western side of the Colchagua Valley. It was aged in assorted concrete, oak, and stainless steel vessels. There's a delicious fruity expression here—the red-fruit aromas concentrate later in the mouth, where those flavors are crisp, as if they had texture. The tannins help provoke that grip, and the acidity refreshes in a merlot with a clear sense of the variety. (From Patricio Tapia - Descorchados). I couldn't agree more. Excellent wine. I needs to breath and improve a few hours after open.

No rush to drink up if ideally stored and I’ve changed my drink by date to 2030. Delightful berry aroma. Tons of red berries with a touch of black cherry, anise, and cedar. Well balanced with a silky smooth mouthfeel. Only modest complexity but very tasty nonetheless.

The tannin quality is much, much better than the 2017 version of this wine; rather refined and finely grained in comparison. Dark red fruit on the palate with a hint of herbs and mineral complexity. My one issue is that the wine feels a little soft and plush for my taste; I typically like Nebbiolo to be a little more tense, hard, and austere texturally, especially young.

I spoke to Barbara Sandrone and she confirmed that maceration times for the Le Vigne and Aleste (Cannubi Boschis) were relatively short at 12 days, which may be why the wine felt a little soft. On the other hand, they use 500 liter tonneaux for elevage (there may be some new oak in the mix, I'm not sure), which may explain why I didn't pick up any strong oakiness on the wine.

This needed a couple hours of air to really shine. It was very good. It almost tasted like a Barolo. Nose and palette of cherries, dusty earth and rose. The palette had a hint of raisin and a little plum too. Really nice acidity and well integrated tannins with some very nice sweetness on the finish, which was very long. Never had aged Priorat before but this was really excellent.
