Quinteseial red Burgundy, drinking at prime. Loved this upon release, but it needed more time. You can see through the red in the glass. Endless finish

Enjoyable, but pretty rustic and harsh- yes, I know this is supposed to have a lot of tannin, but it was just a LOT at this early stage. Very coarse and gritty. There was definitely some good fruit there too, dark and ripe without being overdone, kind of a gentle, easy blackberry tone- but it was overshadowed by the structure on the palate, and it's kind of a shy wine overall (in terms of flavor). I could see it being a fun, good-QPR dinner companion in 5 years, maybe longer? It's just a little angry right now.

100% Tempranillo from the +40 years old Mayorita, El Bardal and El Rebollar vineyards in Rodezno, and Alto del Rey in Labastida. Aged for a year in new American oak barrels and for another year in 4-yo American oak barrels. 14,5% alcohol, 1,9 g/l residual sugar, 5,0 g/l acidity and 0,74 g/l VA.

Deep and quite opaque dark plummy color with youthful blueish hue. The nose feels ripe, sweet-toned and moderately oak-driven with aromas of soft black cherries and ripe dark plums, some dill pickle tones, a little bit of ripe strawberry, light toasty oak notes, a hint of vanilla and a rich, vaguely buttery touch of diacetyl. The wine feels ripe and juicy on the palate with a full body and bold flavors of tart red plums and sweeter black cherries, some toasty notes of mocha oak and chocolate truffle, a little bit of dill pickle, light vanilla and exotic spice nuances, a hint of strawberry and a faint touch of extracted woody bitterness. The structure relies more on the rather fresh and quite high than on the ripe and pretty gentle medium tannins. The finish is long, silky and gently grippy with a moderately acid-driven aftertaste of crunchy cranberries and sweet black cherries, some dill pickle, light oaky notes of sweet toasty spices and extracted woody bitterness, a little bit of vanilla, a hint of tart red plum and a touch of toasted exotic spices.

A rather classically built LRA, but maybe still a bit too youthful and clumsy: the sweet, toasty oak tones are still pretty much to the fore and the youthful, sweet-toned fruit flavors don't really meld that well together with the vanilla and dill pickle tones. Most likely the wine will get better with further aging, although I doubt this will turn into something particularly interesting with age. I wished the wine had shown a bit more tannic structure, but at least the acidity felt more or less sufficient. At 24,98€ the wine felt a bit pricey for the quality.

A purple black cherry vanilla fruit bomb. The soft, almost sweet mouth-filling blast of fruit and vanilla does carry though nicely into a fairly long finish, where some tannins surface along with butterscotch (in a red!). My wife, who dislikes dry red wines in general, loved this, suggesting that it could be a popular wine for a backyard barbecue.

2nd of 2 bottles purchased in February 2024. Decanted 2.5 hrs & served with chicken braised with artichokes and olives: beautiful garnet color, still youthful, engrossing perfumed nose, sensuous mouthfeel, long finish. Great bottle & perfect match.

Unfortunately only got a glass and a half, didn't have time to really get to know the wine. But I got just enough to write a brief note. It's really gorgeous, even though it's largely closed down at this early stage. The nose is very faint, with slight chalky or flinty minerals, white flowers, some cream and lemon, but just a whisper- the palate a lot clearer, with a gorgeous lingering almond tone, vivid and complex. Lots of minerality on the finish too. Very far from a "big" or buttery style, but has really nice weight. Just give it at least another few years to become more expressive. I'm continuing to realize that good Chardonnay is one of the most important things to (lightly) age. Will be an easy 94, maybe 95 on my scale with time.

An absolutely stunning Pinot Noir. Excellent integration and lovely mouth feel. Has given way to a lovely tertiary dominated by garrigue and umami/mushroom. The fruit is there, but in a subtle and balanced manner. Lovely nose and brickish rim. WOW.

Good wine. Young better on the second night.

A bit more advanced than expected looking just at the color. This wine is bigger and richer than expected, honied (color and aromas), a touch of sweetness (probably not RS), elevated oak notes, wonderful acidity to balance out the richness. An absolutely lovely wine - not sure there is a tremendous amount of upside to hanging on to it much longer as it is drinking so wonderfully right now.

Pretty tasty and fun, with a lot of rich black fruit and some baking spice. Plenty of structure without being coarse, but it's sometimes a little goofy, with slightly overripe fruit. I really liked the intensity and saturation (there were little spikes of alcohol heat, but could be worse.)

That said, there was one issue holding back from a higher score, which was something ALMOST resembling the beginning of oxidization- an ever-so-faint but present sort of apple tone that one might find in a much older wine. Confusing, and not very welcome. I'm not the first commenter to note this (although I liked it better than them, overall); I'd say drink this on the very early side, just to be safe? Thankfully it was mostly sound and delicious- might not age as intended.

Undrinkable—like drinking a green bell pepper juice with a very long finish. Decanted and (attempted to) drink over three hours. Nose was unmistakably Christophe’s, very similar to the no girls wines. The palette was just dominated by a green characteristic. Green bell pepper or green olives—it almost tasted medicinal. Finish was long but unpleasantly green. Will revisit in 5-10 years

Delicious. The fresh, bright pear notes were well-preserved in the production process. I am leery of fruit-wines but this hits the spot. Sooooo good with cheese!!! Recommend a semi-hard cheese.

Pale gold colored with medium intensity bubbles and low viscosity (11.5% ABV). The nose has medium (-) intensity aromas of white pear, brioche, grapefruit pith, white blossom and salted caramel. The palate is dry with medium (+) acidity, a light body and a medium (-) mousse. Flavors of citrus pith, brioche, white blossom, ripe white pear and lanolin. The mouthfeel is very smooth as the mousse has tamed itself with plenty of aging whilst the acidity is still bright and refreshing. The finish is a tasty affair that is medium in length and very satisfying- some spritz, some zing and fresh fruit surrounding the bready, brioche notes. This bottle has dubious provenance, it sat in my buddy Rewt's basement for god-knows-how-long yet is shows decent quality and aging capacity. As with most Non Vintage Cava, it is hard to tell the disgorgement date so I have no idea how long this bottle has slumbered. A curious web search made my jaw drop- $9. Yup, under 10 bones and you are drinking a very serviceable and delicious sparkler that is made in the traditional method out of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo grapes. I would be looking to stock up for the summer, this is a porch-pounder for sure. 88 points, and 5 stars.

Bold nose with blackberry, black raspberry, briar patch, tar, and smoke. Strong fruit-driven palate with blackberry and black currant followed by black licorice, menthol, and milk chocolate. Polished finish with blueberry and toffee/butterscotch notes, light hers, clean stony notes a a touch of oak. Modern and fruit-forwards, its a pleasure to drink. (Note the cork was showing seepage on the sides!)

Rich, full and round, this was almost sweet at first -- the tasting notes mentioning nougat are right on the money. So refined and balanced, with huge length; almost unbelievably intense. Just a tiny hint of back-end bitterness brings it all together… a real "wow" wine.

What a tasty bottle! This has been open and lovely for years, and is in a very good place right now. Gamey and sauvage on the nose, with the beef bouillon note that is the telltale nose of Gevrey, and more and more sweet red fruit and a hint of white pepper as the wine opened up. Super-silky texture - unmistakably Grand Cru - and a sweet entry, with a smooth yet still evident tannic backbone and fine length. This only needed a bit more flesh (rare in my experience for a Chapelle) to merit an even higher score. This was the 11th of my 12 bottles; I will be sorry when these are gone. 93/94 points

Popped and poured from fridge temperature into a Grassl Liberte. The aromas jump from the glass with lemon, stones, yeast, and marzipan. The acid and breads/nuttiness actually reminds me faintly of my sourdough starter (RIP).

The palate is lively, lemony, and acid forward with plenty of mineral backing. The mousse is fine, and the texture is overall enveloping and silky. The finish brings the more dosage-inflected nutty elements in a way I enjoy. There and adding pleasure but not overpowering the acid drive.

PnP that was very good on open and even better at 60 minutes open. Medium straw color, not so clear. Initial aromas of peach, apple, mace and marine influence. Medium body, good+ complexity and length. This is a magnet drawn to bold flavors; the garlic and tuna in my pasta/cream sauce dish was lit. Easily recommended+, thru 2028.

This really wasn't showing very well at all. Surprisingly dark in color, earthy, and very, very tannic, this was hard to even recognize as Burgundy. Tough as nails on opening, and even a four-hour decant couldn't bring it around, while on Day Two it was basically flavorless and gone. Maybe this wine is just years & years away, but this bottle was not enjoyable.

Boy, this is not our style of chardonnay. Deep yellow with butterscotch, caramel, rich vanilla nose more reminiscent of dessert. Forced myself to continue drinking though did improve -- a bit -- over time. This is not the Marcassin of 90s and 00s.

Pulled a glass via Coravin and left to air for about 45 minutes before attempting to swirl and smell. Translucent ruby color. Quite reduced at the moment with a burnt match stick note that really dominates. Swirling chases this sulfur-linked note away, but it creeps back into the bouquet rather quickly. Underneath are dark red notes of cherry and dry figs. After getting past the sulfur notes and actually tasting, I found that beyond the cherry and fig notes, there was a hint of raisin, along with an herbaceous quality that finished just a little on the tart side. This wine is certainly interesting to taste. Not sure how "drinkable" this will become, but tasting it has some appeal. Somehow I think this might pair with just about anything barbeque related. I think I might have to buy a fancy amarone just to tell whether this one is any good.

I have consumed quite a bit of Seghesio Venom over the years and this was one of the most disappointing bottles I've had. There is always sediment with this wine, but this most recent bottle was off the charts. I was picking up floaters, what appeared to be skins in the wine, on the first glass and midway through. Wine was still OK, but getting a mouthful of that midway through a sip isn't great. Decant & filter.

Dark ruby color. Deep aromas of dried cherries, prunes, orange zest, tobacco and leather. The bold palate features dried dark cherries, ripe plum, black currant, coffee, mint, baking spices and vanilla. Long and velvety finish. Very concentrated and bold, yet the tannins and texture are quite soft. Fresh acidity and wonderful balance. Full bodied and lush.

Maybe more time will help balance out the "sweet" ripe purple fruit with the high tannins that are a little gritty/grippy. Would benefit from greater intensity of fruit aromas, as well as more concentration. QPR is presently a little low.
