Tasting Note 19 of #50in2024

My first introduction to this wine was approximately 12 years ago. I recall it being opened by a friend and I was taken in by the instant aromas from the bottle, not yet poured into my glass...

Not much has changed! This wine pours with a deep, luxurious dark red color and the aromas are instant. It is classic dark fruit but with all the lovely aromas imparted by 18 months in new french oak..cedar, vanilla and even bay leaf type spices. But that color! Petit Verdot just adds a deepness that makes it more velvety all around.

Upon initial taste, the acid level is medium...really secondary to the flavors of dark berries and a real gentle spiciness - herbal perhaps. The tannins are medium and the alcohol feels a bit high.

As the wine has some time in the glass, it it settling in even more. Coming into true drinking temperature and benefiting from some air. The nose becomes more prominent with the fruit tast so nicely integrated with the herbal spiceness. The tannins seem to be lasting a bit longer now with each taste, and its very welcome.

My only criticism might be "is this what Carmenere is supposed to taste like? " I mean I could easily mistake this for a Napa Cab blend or even a Merlot. I mean it really stands up to be heard.

As for pairing, its currently accompanied by Charcuterie of various salami and cheese. Perfecto. I would not hesitate in the least to serve this with a steak from the grill.

This is a bigger wine than I expected, and much better than when I had just a couple years ago (same vintage). I think this is the time to drink this vintage. Good thing because its my last one...

Im going with a solid 91 -- nah, 92. Better hit save now before I drink more...

Totally delightful; a clear step up from the sea of $15 NZ Sauv Blancs, many of which are great value too. This is definitely a bit less "tropical-fruited" than most and has a focus on super, super crisp tiny citrus and berry fruits; really vivid gooseberry especially, with plenty of river stone minerality and a big bolt of lingering acidity (that feels integrated, rather than tart and puckery.) It isn't a very "deep" or complex wine, just a really delicious one.

Fruity nose of peach, white flowers, orange peel and fresh fruit, on the palate high but still pleasant acidity of 9 gr which is in perfect balance to sweetness of 40 gr, long fresh taste of citrus fruits and apple. Long fresh taste, perfect match to Tikka Masala. 92p

Nothing like my 10/28/22 tasting and notes. Some of the same flavors as prior tasting but not the weight and depth. Yes, showed more over the next three hours but really never developed the depth op0f earlier tastings. Faded after 5 hours. Glad this was my last bottle.

Sehr frisch, sehr beerig, auch Kirschnoten. Gar nicht typisch Garnacha-like, wie ich es kannte. Eher fein und verspielt.

Lovely wine with some wood and ta exture that reminds of chablis. There is something to remind one the bucaco white though the type of wood seems different, less oak here but possibly and bit more toasted compared to the possibly virtually untoasted oak in the bucaco.

Fruity and enjoyable Sauvignon blanc.
Dominated more through stone fruit and a touch of tropical fruit characters.
Overall not very complex and easy drinking (in a positive way). Would enjoy it over the first few years of its live.

quite golden now and certainly mature with an edge of oxidation - a bit too much for me but I am sure some will love it

This was outright delicious, very rich and satisfying. One of the best cabs I've had in a while at anywhere near this price-point - as an example, it was for more impressive than the '16 BV George de Latour I had recently, which was about 2.5x the price or more. Also, I'd never peg this as a Sonoma cab in a blind tasting as there is no sign of the kind of rustic or sandy notes I often pick up from Sonoma reds.

92/93. I view this similarly to the By Farr Farrside. A "dirty pinot". I gave the Farrside a 93 but this likely is closer to 92 as I did not find it as complex. Highly enjoyable. Slightly cloudy. I'm not sure it was as precise as the Farrside with the notes here a bit more conjoined.

Well, if I'm not mistaken I'm only the second person to write a note on this wine after Jeff Leve so I guess I have to be careful 😅
Loads of dark fruit for sure. Good presence on the palate but the finish falls a bit short. I left two glasses for day 2 and these weren't the best.
Drink or hold.

"International style" Bordeaux here; but a little more even handed than some examples. It's a Rolland wine, though I'm not sure of his level of involvement. Hardly my preferred style of Bordeaux, but least this has astringnecy and graphite on it.

Dust, tobacco, graphite, cedar wood, ripe plums, ripe black currants and cinnamon on the nose. Everything smells a little caramelized, with the slightest hint of green bell pepper undeaneath it all. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate opens with a burst of red fruit, followed by cardamom, dark chocolate and dried hibuscus. No GB pepper to be seen on the palate. Texturally inky and slightly astringent, which balances out the oak quite well.

Medium + body with medium + acid and medium tannin. I think 7 years of age put this in a great spot. It'll go 2-5 more; but I am not sure if it will go longer than that. Great pairing with a grilled filet.

I've had WAY WORSE "international style" Bordeaux than this, at twice the price.

Really good Barbera character showing through, but with California sunshine ripeness on display. Nice balance, no rough edges - a crowd-pleasing easy drinker with enough interest for the wine geek. Good Cal-Ital are hard to find, but this is one of them. Too bad they decided to end production.

Stern on the palate, needing time.
Red
Leans towards the sage herb character. And really grippy tannins to it.
Red
Also bold fruit driven character, with a touch of wood on the nose still. Gorgeous soft fruit through the mid palate. In their style of course.

Also smelling really great. More cherry than anything, and really beautiful.
Red
Also a beautiful pronounced nose. And funny, so soft and easy on the palate.

Wearing four years pretty well. Honeysuckle, ripe cantaloupe, ripe passion fruit, ripe pear and a hint of pineapple on the nose. Overall tropical and perfumed, with an elegant medium intensity of aromas. The palate adds ripe yellow apple, grass, anise, dried rosemary and lemon juice. A hint of stony bitterness emerges on the finish. Texturally rounded and a little creamy; but not in too overbearing a way.

Medium + body with medium acid. Overall clean and herbal. I think 4 years is a perfect age for this. Drink now.

On the nose subtle red and dark berries. Medium bodied, dry, rather crisp and smooth, showing some red berries with a tiny hint of mineral and good acidity. There is nothing wrong with this rather round and easy drinking rosé but I can’t help comparing it with those southern France rosé wines (with more crispiness and acidity) that I like a bit more.

Nose of dark fruit, spring flowers and allspice, same on the palate, medium body, tasty, touch simple, opened the second and third nights, score went from 86 to 88 points, fairly fruit forward, good acid, medium finish, nice aftertaste, enjoy the next 3 years, $10 makes for great QPR here.

This is an unexpected Wow! Superb structure, delicious, and of course, a big full bodied mouthful of wonderful fruits of the forest, along with cedar, cake spices and a little saddle leather. There is plenty of acidity and tannin here to balance the gorgeous fruit. Long finish, with touches of complexity. Just starting to enter the drinking window. Drink now and for the next 20 years.

PNP. Beautiful nose, lightly spiced, showing cherry and some bottle funk that blew off quickly. Lithe and silky palate, very typical for the vintage with austere fruit that is slightly tannic and "hard".

Another winner from the Fatto a Mano series, which is such a nice part of the Giornata lineup. Stephy recommended with with a mild Thai green curry and so that was part of what we paired it with and she was so right - perfect match.

Note: As with (nearly) all of the wines in this series, if you wish to reduce sediment clouding, consider storing upright for a few days before serving.

Dark berries, some herbs and beautiful oak in the bouquet. On the palate the same berries, juicy and more round acidity than in the 2010, same for the tannin, some minerals. Overall a beautiful and friendly wine which is in its young maturity stage and which will be even more elegant 3 – 5+ years from now.

Pretty ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with red fruits, earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf, light barnyard, dark coffee and peppercorn.

Short finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This young Merlot blend is still harsh, but good with food right now. A little unbalanced, but drinkable nonetheless.

Would be interesting to try it again in 3 years.

A blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah. Aged in steel vats on the lees for 12 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

88 points.

$20.
