Lovely pinot. On the muted side. Excited to compare to other SchoneTal pinots.

I feel that my experience will be a bit skewed given the nature of my relationship with champagne. This being my first will hopefully not distort my expectation of future champagne, I have come to understand that is a way to diminish experience and put a cloud over new glasses.

With that being said let’s get to brass tax. An incredible bottle; a mix of white cherry, subtle prickly pear, and lilies on the initial taste. Low-med acid w tannins that dance on your palate. A wonderful start or finish to any meal, versatile.

Cheers.

Hard to find great QPRs in the region. This is one of them. Only had a single vintage (2021) in 2024–so grain of salt or something. Secondary notes present over primary fruit. M+ acid. M body. Moderate finish. Retail price would make this strong QPR of the year contender. Really nice PN.

Medium-pale yellow gold with green tint. Lemon, citrus peel, white flowers, sage, hazelnut, mild butter, honeycomb and minerality. Medium-full to fill bodied, high acidity, medium structure, medium alcohol and long mineral finish. Complex, elegant and well balanced. Smooth yet edgy on the palate.

Perfect to enjoy now and this bottle would cellar well for another 10 years due to excellent acidity and abandance of fruits.

Interesting wine. Medium red, good acidity, long flavours of red fruit primarily raspberry with a back end sour cherry taste giving this wine long length, tannins provide a slight vanilla flavour. Very delicous and approachable now. Needs time for the barrel effect to mellow. One of the better 2021,s I have tasted to date. Time will tell as to the wines aging capabilities. I expect this will be at its prime at about 7 years from it's initial bottling. Reminisent at this stage for me of a good New Zealand pinot.

Drank the 2021 actually, no entry here.
medium gold, clear.
medium+ intensity on the nose, with aromas of ripe peach, orange peel, orange blossom, some slight tropical fruit?
Developing wine with bright palate, not bone dry with some ripeness of again tropical fruit (startfruit?). High acidity, medium+ alcohol, pretty long finish. The acidity really lingers, my kind of wine!

Tasted in a flight with other Rieslings from Wachau at the same level and same vintage. This stood out by having by far the best balance and depth of fruit. On the nose there's a moderate tone of citrus, but also some hints of the tropics. Full yet fresh, with excellent length. Classy wine.

Took a mag of this to Black & Blue to share with some old former colleagues, most of us retired. It showed beautifully, complex, balanced, rich yet refreshing. For a hot vintage, it is still classic in style and was widely enjoyed.

Interesting bottle. The candidate for nearly 3 hours, and it just seemed a little out of place. Nowhere near as good, rich, or savory as the previous bottles. Definitely wasn’t corked, but just didn’t seem to be all together. ?

2019 vintage. Deep garnet. Forest floor, wet oak leaves jump out first followed by strawberries, orange peel, cocoa nibs. Morello cherries. Opens to iron rich myoglobin. There is a lot going on. High minus acid and super super fine tannin delivers precision. More underripe strawberry, cherry, currant. All kept in check by the acid.

Long finish. Tannins hold at the end… w/ the pH, long lifespan on this one. Excellent wine. Very reminiscent of Rocheux from Le Cadeau in OR. High praise indeed.

Nice, simple, elegant packaging, too.

Served by the glass on my United flight from Frankfurt to Houston. Deep dark magenta color. Red apple core, blueberry jam, and brown sugar. Smooth, dry, fullish bodied. Full, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This is an easy drinker and just a touch extracted. Drinking at altitude likely diminishes my perception of the wine. Could be slightly better at or near sea level.

A pleasure to return to my favourite Cru out of 5 belonging to Breuer on Rüdesheim slopes. Fermentation and later, aging in old large oak barrels on its lees for 1 year. Pronounced rich aroma of candied lemon peel, peaches, beeswax, petrol, melons, lychees. Medium+ body, still quite youthful and vibrantly elegant, would give it another 3-5 years before tasting it again. Love its complex bone dry flavour profile enveloped in elegant, fleshy mineral, nearly saline body, racy steely acidity, clean & focused finish.

Pleasure to return to yet another vintage of this famous Grand Cru old vines planted in 1960s. Fermented and aged in old and large oak barrels on ints lees for 10 months. Pale golden colour. High intensity aroma of leeches, chamomiles, quince, ripe apples, wet stone, floral hints. Medium+ body, elegant and refreshing with focused and crisp high acidity, great mineral tones, long and pleasantly tart finish.

Fresh vintage of ‘Grand Cru’ site from single vineyard. Aged in old and large oak barrels. Pale lemon colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of peaches, apricots, apples, herbs, wet stone, orchard and petrol hints. Medium body, crisp and elegant, youthful but shows good concentration, mineral stony flavours, good depth, quite tart and tense high acidity. Still needs few years to open up.

Terra Montosa is a single vineyard, from Latin translates into ‘Steep land’. Fresh and clean, still needs some years to unfurl but already a pleasure to have it. Pale lemon colour, medium+ intensity aroma of peaches, hay, apricots, oyster shells, lemons, herbal hints. Medium body, clean and crisp with elegant structure, juicy and focused, green and stone fruits, high sharp and youthful acidity.

Had an opportunity to bottle taste at the 4/20 Pott Party which was the first time the wine had ever been poured (it's getting bottled in June). Really outstanding wine from Stags Leap (sits right next to Shafer Hillside Select vineyards) that attacks with a beautifully expressive nose of blue fruit and cassis. Although quite young, the tannins are soft and refined keeping the wine quite light on its feet. This is a beautiful effort from a new producer with Aaron Pott as winemaker. Really well done...

Dark golden in color.

Nose of citrus, yellow apples, melons and spices.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with apples, lemons, oak, vanilla and Indian spices.

Spicy finish with nuts and more spices.

This is a very tasty Chardonnay from Lazio, Italy. Feels like a white Burgundy.

Showing nice complexity now, and feels young. Oaky and spicy. A good quality wine.

This 4 year old is easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

Aged in used French oak barrels for 12 months on the lees.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$65.

👁 straw yellow

👃 flint, smoke, Mirabelle, lime, stony, white flowers and nougat

👄 medium++ body; all the 👃 promises but unlike last time much broader and far less crisp than last time with minimal developed old oak notes. This doesn’t make it in anyway not a fabulous German Chard which is now on apex.

I clearly had the further development wrong but again really great wine to drink up now, unless it’s the bottle! Have one left.

Retail $30(?). Responsible Bottle (578g; 1lb 4.3oz). Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Mauzac. AOC Limoux. I am not entirely sure, but this might be the first time Mauzac has passed my lips (although I am sure I have had some Blanquette at some point). A good friend brought this over from France and it was quite enjoyable. It is not all that often that you see a Chardonnay blend (outside of Champagne, of course), particularly with an aromatic white like Mauzac. No formal note here, but nice fruit, good tartness, quite nice.

From 75cl, good cork, opened but not decanted 1 hour, which seemed about right. Best at about 12-13C. This bottle was in a much better place than my previous one (CT TN 05.02.2023). Darkish yellow colour looks ominous, but the aromatic profile, while still evolving and morphing form minute to minute was fresh enough. Quince, pear, white peach; "minerality" without a hint of bitterness; good concentration without being overbearing. Coming into focus, might even improve further for those with patience and good nerves. 90(+?)P

Sweet cabernet and aged oak scent. Pulls through on the palette, no minty backbone but the same semi-sweetness. Tasted blind, would have given is 2010 approximately, little more aged than 14 imho. Freshness med-, but it is not a lazy wine. When i saw market value i had a shock, would’ve estimated 150 euro.

Decanted for ~5 hours.

Red fruit, baking spices, acidity is high but certainly not problematic. With some maturation this could be tremendous, several more points possible.
