Tough one. The wine itself is really well made and not one of the mass produced supermarket primitivos. It still lacks freshness and elegance plus the alcohol is killing everything. After having tried this one, I come to the conclusion that it must be impossible to produce a dry and pleasant primitivo in current climate conditions.

Very interesting/unusual wine. Browning robe due to some skin contact the producer was doing selectively between 2010-2019 we are told. Light body. Smooth profile. Nice balance. Dark floating sediment in glass. Better tasting than it looks.

2008 Château Clauzet St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
13% alcohol. CS 55%, M 40%, CF and PV 5%. Longish cork, but the texture is pretty loose. Decanted 90 mn ahead. Deep colour with no sign of ageing.
The nose has great harmony with fruity aromas mixed with tobacco leaf and a faint hint of vanilla. The mouth is half a step behind at this stage, as it is quite tight, but it shows vivid fruit and superb acidity before the unresolved tannins kick in.
Pretty good as it is for those who can tolerate a good bit of structure, but will undoubtedly harmonise in the next 5 to 10 years.
It is an awful pity that this chateau has now been subsumed into Lillyan-Ladouys, as I always felt that Clauzet was the more authentically St Estèphe on the two properties.

PNP - Paired wonderfully with venison steaks and blueberry sauce. Blue fruits and slightly gamey on the nose (the wine, not the dish) took a little bit to coax out of the glass. An hour decant would've been the move here. Palate was fuller, fruitier and more approachable than the Bonnivieres. Not much complexity yet but a pleasurable drink now with potential. Will be interesting to see how these two develop over the next 5+years.

Rød i frukten, nokså lys, med et slør av krydder.

Konsentert i munn med flott syrefriskhet. God balanse.

Men havner i skyggen av '17 Cathiard Murgers. Er bare ikke i nærheten av å ha den samme personligheten.

PHILLY CT GATHERING-DR CRANE NIGHT
I haven’t had many single varietal Petit Verdot, but I have to imagine this is one of the best representations coming from Napa. It certainly held its own against the cab savs poured last evening.
Deep garnet in color with baked plums on the nose. Rich red and black fruits, more plums, black cherries and red currants. Finishes with plush tannins, cedar box and black pepper with a streak of scorched earth.
A very unique and satisfying bottle of wine. Thanks to the cyclist for bringing this along

Dinner with David Sinegal. Double decant. Left in the btl, no cork for 3 hours. Served with Waygu beef, simply delicious. Smooth. No hurry to drink as this was their first vintage.

Dark in glass

Cigar andtea on nose

Juicy acidity of dark berries, feels more like a riserva than crianza, tannins softened by time and oak
Red
Easy drinker, big fruit and satisfying nose. No food needed. Decant and drink.

That's what I love about German wine. You can take a liter bottle of Riesling from a not so well known winery, lay it down for a couple of years, and enjoy!

Beautiful! It continues to be one of my favorite Champagnes. Fresh, elegant bubble with lime, grapefruit aromas and a final note of pineapple.

12.5% ABV. Kerner from Fujisawa Vineyard in Nobori, Yoichi. Fermented wild with no skin contact in 2 small qvevris, then 1 is transferred to concrete tank and another aged in the same qvevri for 18 months. Bottled in August 2022.

PNP into Grassl Liberte glass (“Flower” day): Medium lemon golden to the eyes.

Aromatic juicy stone fruits like apricots, citrus fruits like lemon balm, minty spices.

Quite the volume on the palate with high acidity, umami, mellowly textured. White spices on the finish.

94 points.

2023 produced a Viognier akin to 2019. Riper fruit. Lush buttery nose (lychees, pear, musk sticks). Succulent, opulent fruit, with long silky textures. Good acid finish. Excellent.

Blackcurrant, plum, moderate cedar, medium body, smooth tannins, very pure and clean palate. Short dry finish but with subtle herbal notes. Good on balance and smoothness, same owner of Grand-Puy-Lacoste, a good quality Pauillac at entry level price (nzd 20).

WE 92

Ap 5/5, Ar 12/15, Palate 16/20, Overall 3+3/10

My wife guessed riesling blind. Which I thought was fair. There’s a slight petro hint on the nose and a bit of fleshiness about it. I quite like the profile of this. Approachable young.

Past peak and even before not recommendable for the price. While the Syrahs from Montecarrubo are excellent, I rather pass on this one.

Screwcap. Lemon yellow in colour showing yellow fruits on the nose (lemon, yellow melon and possibly pineapple!). Medium in body with a luxury slightly viscous and weights and coming over as very pure and crystalline. A little too much Tuscan sunshine showing through for my wife as she found it too sweet. I liked it but wouldn't rush to reload.

Still drinking well, but I'm a bit concerned that the slightly oxidised-tasting fruit will succumb so I won't wait too much longer before opening my last bottle. For now, a very beguiling blend of bitter orange and lemon, interspersed with notes of honey, finishing crisp and dry.

This wine is fantastic. Gently browning at the edges, but no loss of flavour or elegance. Subtle spice and berry, with a gentle richness that can only be Old World. Truly splendid

The cork was soaked through and crumbly and the middle of the cork came out. I had to pour through a large hole in the cork into a decanter, then used a sieve to decant into a jug, and then back to a decanter. Worked surprisingly well considering I don't have a Butler's Thief.

Really into tertiary strides with mushroom truffle decaying cherries and some soy with lovely acidity and so well balanced. Probably stepped off the summit but the view from the early stages of the descent was still sublime.

No abv stated. I would guess 12% or under. Was quite easy to drink a bottle and feel fresh (as my spouse doesn't really drink reds).

Creamy, quite dark and rich, with blackberry and dark cherry mixing with a little vanilla and coffee flavours, so borderline internationally bland, but a little acidic bite and grip midpalate bring it back onto the straight and narrow. Really rather good, if teetering on the edge of the dark side.

I don't know what qualifies as still or sparkling nowadays but this definitely had some spritz when first popped. Also crown-capped so make of that what you will.

In any case, I quite liked the additional dimension this added, plus, I now get tell people i've tried sparkling shiraz.

Semantics aside, this was as you'd expect - juicy and fruit forward with very little shiraz character aside from some grippiness. A fun wine, and perhaps even more fun to try and find something that pairs well with this.
