Had the pleasure of tasting one of the first pours of the 2022 bottlings at the Occidental property. These wines are obviously quite young right now, but there is already some forest floor notes that add complexity to a wine with bright red fruit with mouth watering acidity and a long, mineral finish. Tannins have nice structure. Hard to give an exact rating until proper drink date, but I would say 95+ if I had to pick. This was among my favorites in the 2022 lineup. Beautiful overall.

Lots of big dark fruit in a wine that is well balanced, fruit forward and has a long finish..

Oak, peaches, and cream. This wine is a wild contrast of confectionery nose and lively palate.

Nose is dominated by wood, creamy malolactic acid that sits somewhere between yogurt and crème brûlée, and ripe white peach. Touch of brown butter and marzipan.

On the palate it’s viscous, verging on oily but with lots of linear drive from the acidity that keeps it fresh and grippy. Finish is long and complex. This one is a bit weird and I think the wood is just a touch out of balance but it’s tasty nonetheless.

Great bang for the buck lower 20s at Costco. New world Slightly roasted fruit, but nice acidity. Mostly cab with a bit of everything else. Not the most complex or interesting red, but really dense, user-friendly, red wine

Butterscotch with a subdued aged white Burgundy profile. This bottle was beginning its decline and it didn't have the acidity, depth, or energy of a previous bottle. Out of 3 bottles consumed, 2 have been fine (disappointments) and the third was up there with 90s Leflaive.

Day 1: subdued red fruits. Elegant, but not a ton of depth. No note taken. Returned 1/2 bottle to the refrigerator. 90+
Day 5: Wow. This had quite a bit of depth. Red fruits and whole cluster notes. Clean. Sit on these until 2026+. 93+

Deep fruited, mix of red and black. Low tannin, tobacco leaf and spice. Fruit evolves with time open and becomes richer and juicier.

A bit more body came as it was opened too.

Good, not sure about the qpr maybe time does it some good?

Plum, cassis, and a leafy/dried herb quality on the nose. Juicy and fresh on the palate, with nice acidity on the finish. Dark fruit, a bit of a smoky/savory character. Not the most complex wine, but a good every day drinker and good value at under $20/750ml.
Rosé - Sparkling
Pleasant with some green apple and sour cherry notes. Refreshing.

No note taken. Enjoyable now with a 30+ minute decant. Less austere than the Arvelets. Moderate concentration of juicy red fruits with light chalky tannins. 92+

Fresh, floral, slightly carbonic, medium+ acidity, slightly bretty on the finish. I would say this is a delicious glou-glou wine to drink chilled with or without food, but not a super cerebral wine. One to enjoy with friends on a summer day.

Day 1: A little young for enjoyment.
Day 4: some added depth I didn't see before. Light-mid body juicy red/dark fruits with some whole cluster notes. Clean. I think these will do better with age than I expected thought last time. Upside over the mid-term. 92+

Magnum. 100% Pinot Blanc. On first pour this was good. Better after 60+ minutes open in bottle. No note taken. Moderate aromas/moderate+ flavors of orchard fruits and some citrus. Hint of tannins that add complexity. Enjoyable now with some mid-term upside. Extra Brut with 4.5 g/l. 93+

First sniff of this one brought back from Greece in '21. It's nice, it's cleanly focused and raisined, it's clean and pure and ready to drink now. Will it ever be confused with the great dessert wines of the World? No....but it's nice and pure and flavorful.

Brought to the table by WGDM tonight.....needs every bit of 1-2 hours of decant/air. Loads of leather and aged red fruit on the nose. To me, it drinks like a wine that is 5-10 years older than it is. Having said that, it is beautiful........soft, red fruited, smooth and fantastic! Thanks for bringing this one, Rick! I loved it..........

This one needed every bit of an hour or more to strut its stuff. Deeper, darker.........loads of acidity, etc. Quite nice but also deep at the same time. Nice energy in the glass.....better with 1-2 hours of air at this stage. None left at the end of the night......what does that tell you?

Dark garnet red with pink-orangey rim. Blackcurrant, cassis, stewed strawberry, incense, game, leather, cedar, fresh herbs and spices. Medium-full bodied, medium-high acidity, medium-high tannin, medium-high structure, medium-high alcohol and long finish. Complex, fresh and layered. Plenty of tertiary notes.

Acidity was on the high side and fruits and tannin were fading. Wine was at the tail end of prime or perhaps just past the prime. Nonetheless great value for what it was worth.

Fantastic wine brought to tonight's event by WGDM. 94-95 all night long. It is very well integrated and to my mind, feels much older than a '13. More like an '08 or '09. Thanks so much for bringing this one Rick....Carol loves it!

Dark magenta in the glass. Decanted for 1 hour before Mr/Mrs WineGuy Del Mar arrived for their visit......this one is resolved, smooth and integrated. Drinks easily like a beautifully aged wine. But the red fruit is still strong! Feels like it could be a '13 (see the Kobalt coming next)...lol.

Same as my Feb 29 review. I’m really loving these crisp French whites. Subtle yet delightful notes & taste as well. I’ll need to look for more of this.

Lots of red and blue fruit but not much else on day 1. Next day, herbs, spices, and grainy tannins showed up to join the party, with nice acid and a medium finish. Very good with tri-tip dinner.

Upon opening it was overpowering oak, and we opened a different bottle. But after a few days in the fridge it showed more fruit. Not much complexity, but not bad

Popped-and-poured, this was underwhelming to start, emphasizing ripe and candied red fruits. An hour of air was this wine’s friend, enabling more spice and savory character to emerge. Ultimately, bright red cherry and berry came through, nicely spiced, faintly sweet, with good depth. At its peak now while still fresh and bright enough.

Terrific vintage from an under appreciated Willamette vineyard. Fresh fruits have given way to soft tannins, clove and spice, leather, and ripe strawberry. Excellent umami! Decanted for 90 minutes before drinking.

Deep ruby to deep purple, sage, black cherry, boysenberry, and black currant jam, sweet and jammy on the attack followed by loads of spicy black fruits, some smoke, medium acidity, touches of minerality and soft tannins, finish is dark, and savory with dense black and blue fruit, touches of earth, pepper and lingering jammy notes

Note: Solid wine just a little too yolked for me

Really good QPR. A little dark fruit on the nose. Tannins fully tamed with a little acid taste . This wine is not over the hill yet, but really won’t improve with further aging. Open with your next good Italian dish.
