Liked it, but a little less character/complexity than I remember. Nothing wrong, just a bit below expectations
Red
Aromas of moderate intensity, but complex and savory right out of the gate, belying its youth. Dry, with moderate acidity and moderate grippy tannins, medium-bodied, spare, but the fruit blooms on the palate, sweet and appealing, carrying through to a saline finish.

Not much depth to this Rose, but the nose is pleasant and floral. Enjoyable on a warm day!

PnD let air for 2hrs.

Consistent with previous note. Showing a bit too much vanilla on the palate. Too young.

At first glimpse this seemed quite advanced for a young Chardonnay with dark color and mature nose. Interestingly the wine gets more youthful the longer it sits in the decanter. After some hours the development is really surprising. Still mature, honeyed, rich fruit, but with substantial minerality and cutting acidity towards the very long finsish. Pure, almost no sensation of oak, with substance and cut. Quite spectacular. So far Lamy has been my benchmark for St. Aubin. Now I'm not so sure anymore. Have to try other bottlings of this producer. 18/20

Mostly same notes as previous. However this has gained some weight, mid palate filled in. Nice long finish.

Domaine Castagnier Bourgogne 2020
J & J Archambaud Bourgogne Haut Cote de Nuits 2020

The fruits scent slowly fill the bowl just after the bottle is open. This bottle seems to have more of red sweet fruit. And the aroma progressively fill-in with scents of vivid small color flowers i.e. daisy also. After 2 hours there is very little earthy scents of a classic Burgundy

On the palate there are red berry taste noted. Especially mid palate is quite gripping with firm tannin and acidity. Very balanced albeit toward to more acidity feels. After taste is quite long.

This definitely the bottle to enjoy for years to come. Waiting for the more precious ones from the same vintage to mature from this. The style is true to the Domaine.

Well done Castagnier !!

Aromas of moderate intensity, subtle, with a nutty note. Dry, with moderate acidity, lean mid-palate, fairly long. 15% new oak. Decent, but not very generous for a Meursault.

Delicious Bougogne Blanc form the bottom slope in Meursault. This is the cuvee without sulfur. The style is precise, airy and energetic, and an outstanding generic burgundy. Pierre Henri Rougeot pratices "biodynamie". Elegance, purity and depth are the key words. Very worth seeking out.

Slow ox one hour. Initially seemed like a large dollop of cabernet - very cassis on the nose and somewhat on the palate. Later lots of plums and spices. Never really seemed like tempranillo, but a tasty blend at just the right balance of ripeness and acidity. Ready to go.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): Very nice nose here -- perfumed, strawberry-adjacent, and almost like a good, weighty summer rosé. The palate's a bit thin, and there's definitely a slight underripeness here that leaves this feeling a bit empty. One of those wines where the nose is much better than the palate. Quite pleasant -- better as a chilled summer red.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): #05-21, 9.5% abv. Clean and crisp, with that light-bodied raciness that you should expect from Kabinett. Not particularly complex though -- a good drinking wine and not much more. But it's fairly priced and certainly shows a high pedigree.

Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. This was a “wow” wine for me today. It is super traditional, with a 35 day maceration and aged in large botti. While quite cherry fruit forward, it is elegant, fragrant and structured. A Beautiful and ethereal wine. Surprisingly easy to drink at this early stage and very long on the finish.

Aromas of elevated intensity, interesting, a subtle muskiness along with delicate pomme fruit and citrus. Dry, with elevated fresh acidity, lively, medium-bodied, 12.5% abv. Very fine, filigree flavors and acidity carry through the longer than average finish. Nice.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): Very much what Montrachet should be -- inordinately thick and rich, oily, and opulent. A very dense texture on the palate, with an intensity that comes off almost bitter because there's so much of it. Relatively low in acid, but it's made up for in the form of the sheer amount of extract. Huge fan of white Burgundy made before chardonnay these days. It's way more opulent and rustic.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): chardonnay - 30 to 60 year old vines - vineyard blend - La Pellerine, Le Crêt, Arteau - terroir - blue Lias clay on Bathonien limestone - 17 months in old oak barrels - pH 3.11 - free sulfites <6mg/L - total 12 mg/L. Classic Labet, with just that classic reductive winemaking style and a fair bit of white wine volatility. That said, this still tastes might clean and bright for my palate, and is unmistakably Labet with a slight hint of sotolon, plenty of acidity, and still a good amount for white fruit.

This is not a wine that I come across often because I had never considered it to be to my taste.

Nose of crushed olive, smoke, licorice and spices.

The palate retains its vigor, but very soft with an ample attack due to the concentration of the juice. This unfolds all its vigor with aromas of leather, stewed red fruits and pepper. Once the first sensation of intensity has passed, the wine becomes more serene in the second half of the palate. It is always grained, which adds to the pleasure of complexity. The wine then becomes silky and textured on the palate. The balance is excellent with a nice acidity which carries the juice without any feeling of heaviness despite the intensity felt. Large peppery finish, with a seductive length reminiscent of leather aromas.

Excellent!

Medium body w excellent concentration and nice acids. Mild tannins on midpalate. Elegant texture. Nice finish of red cherries, herbs, and minerals. Elegant texture. But also delicious.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): Kind of a weird wine. Doesn't come off particularly riesling-like but it's also not like any other grape either. Good minerality here, but it's just a bit of a baffling wine to be honest. Not really sure what to make of it. That said, it was actually pretty good.

Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening, NYC. Another taste of this wine and It again shows as clean fresh and traditional in style with a light weight texture but big flavor. I rated it a little higher the last time, I think it had more aeration at the Tre Bicchieri tasting recently.

Freaky bottle as this was not well developed; nothing tertiary and slightly vegetal. Likely an off bottle. Eminently drinkable but not consistent with other bottles. A late release.

Rating wines is all about expectations. What do I expect - or want - from a 22 year old village Burg? Truth and beauty, or at least a little of these things. And tonight that’s what I got. An honest Burg, true to form. Really a very pretty nose - strawberries, cherries, some earthy violets. The palate was nicely red fruited, softened beautifully with age. Not silky, but gentle. Plenty of depth, but not powerful. Some nice secondary development in the earthy, mineral vein with everything nicely in place. Good balance, medium body and length. Nothing too much - not overly complex, but not wimpy. It’s satisfying when a village NSG punches above its weight, but there’s a real pleasure in a nicely aged wine showing its virtues but not excessively. Bravo. Compared to the 2010 this is a bit less hedonistic, but with the summer shine of the vintage it still has plenty of life left.

Hedonistic but a little unbalanced. Not unlike the Rancia riserva this wine is with a fruity and a noticeable oak backbone(slightly oaky when uncorked and it goes away just afterwards). What sticks to this wine is the stemmy/leafy notes that is almost bitter.

To be honest, this was a little too oaky for me and could have used more zip and acidity. My sense is the winemakers is still trying to dial in the oak for his wines and is cutting back on the new oak in future vintages.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): Clearly in the richer style of the Keller of old, and I think the vintage played a part of this as well. Still, this is minerally and bright, but a bit big-boned for a feinherb. It's not as crisp and elegant as more recent vintages. That said, this is still pretty impressive in its stature, though I do prefer the modern iterations more.

Dinner at 312 Fish Market (Chicago, IL): Seriously good chardonnay. Comes across richer than the French style, with more fruit on the nose and palate, but it's not for want of acidity nor balance. Clearly identifiable as New World with that fruit profile, but counterweighted by the typical Ceritas minerality and acidity. Great stuff.
