Green-gold color. Sumptuous floral aroma mixed with stone fruit and petrichor. Full-bodied oily on the palate the florals and hints of lemonade and crushed minerals. Really fabulous. Excellent.

Lots going on here. 20+ varieties in this old vine single vineyard. Let it open up an hour! Rich red fruit, floral notes and silky tannins. Good wine at price point.

Drinking nicely now. Expect it to get better with bottle age. Paired with Costco filet mignon and smashed potatoes. Started decanting only 30 minutes before dinner but it was very approachable despite its immense power. I have more but will try to keep my hands off for 2-3 years.

I was short of time while consuming this to give it the attention and proper tasting note it deserves. I'll note that it really showed distinct and as a specific reflection of its site and terroir. It showed with mineral and red fruits (cherries, sour and sweet). The savory components were dominating on the back half. I can't forget the saline finish that just wouldn't let go. The balance and intensity of that component in the last sips of my final glass were unforgettable and excited me greatly to someday learn the path this Radiolaria bottling takes over its just awakened, sure to be lengthy life.

Opened this about 6 years too late. I thought it would be undrinkable, but it turned out to be OK. I probably won't finish the bottle, but it qualifies as wine and will do for tonight. I'm not going to bother scoring it. What's point? It's table wine.

Probably the best pinot noir I’ve ever had . And I’m not a young guy. …Paired perfectly with rack of lamb. Great nose, jammy raspberry, cherries. Wow. Just terrific. A mouthful of fruit. Somewhat dry at finish that lasts …,

A private dinner (Wine Bar La Cuverie de Vosne-Romanée, Vosne-Romanée, France): Delightfully pure and precise, transparent and elegant, cool and minerally, flowers and Asian spices, sweet and juicy fruit of freshly crushed red berries, cherries and peaches, silky texture, judicious oak, papery tannins, mildly austere finale with very good resonance and length. Textbook Lutenières, very delicious.

Light golden. Somewhat closed nose but shows Chardonnay fruit with just the right touch of oak. Good acidity in the entry with refined, still undeveloped flavors — almost like a young ballerina. A 91 now, but this wine still has several years to go before it reaches its full potential. Graceful and lovely!

A private dinner (Wine Bar La Cuverie de Vosne-Romanée, Vosne-Romanée, France): Very fresh and floral - reminds me of the style of Charles Lachaux. Not as lifted and more chalky as that Aligoté, but certainly not the reductive style so en vogue these days.

Splash decant. Deep dark intense magenta color. Cherry, dark raspberry, and oaky vanilla. Smooth, dry palate. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This is an excellent Vranec for the money. It’s got good body/structure, but is quite primary right now. Serbian oak imparts some unique notes.

Superlative Chablis. Marvellous nose, explosive white peach and salted lemon. Authoritative palate, structure, freshness, ripeness, tension, concentration, elegance, impeccable expression of the terroir and the style of the vigneron, harmonious, sculpted, everything in the right place. Salty finish with huge energy and length. Fabulous now and for 20+ years. Sovereign. At bistro Bord de l'eau, Hostellerie Levernois, Levernois, France.

This blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Petit Verdot has a fresh, medium-high intensity nose of dried herbs, red & black fruits, currant, cassis, and fine wood spice aromas. On the elegant, medium-full to full-bodied it palate it has spicy aroma replays which are supported by smooth, well-structured tannins and very good acidity. The long, savoury oak finish is firmly structured with youthful, drying tannins. Will be even better in a few years and should drink nicely to the late 2030s. Score: 93+ pts

On the medium to medium-full bodied palate it has a slightly creamy textured mouthfeel that is supported by very good acidity. Lovely aroma replays shine through harmoniously on the dry flavour profile. It has a crunchy mid-palate, while grapefruit, red cherry, mineral, and herbal notes linger on the long, complex finish. From half bottle at Wally's in Santa Monica.

Was drinking great. Took about 30 minutes to settle. Little closed at first but came around relatively quickly.

2014 base, hence probably why it was more open and accessible than other special edition Krug's I've had. This bottle was crispy, linear, clean, vibrant, all in perfect balance. Prefer a bit more complexity hence why the score is not higher. But the balance and precision are undeniably of high pedigree.

In the mouth, oily lemon and pith, fruity pineapple, moderate acidity. Copper in the mid, short linear finish with crushed shells and oceanic brine. Crisp, thick sticky throatfeel but a bit lacking in length.

The medium to medium+ intensity nose delivers black cherry, earthy, and beet root aromas with touches of dried herbs. It's medium to medium+ bodied on the dry palate with attractive tea leaf notes joining the aroma replays on the flavour profile. It has very good acidity and tannins, while being well-structured with very good length on the long, harmonious finish.

With 60% Mendocino and 40% Lodi fruit, this 100% Chardonnay was fermented in stainless steel and aged slightly on its lees in oak. It has some elegance to the medium+ intensity nose which features pear and apple, fruit forward aromas with touches of lemon citrus and earthy-stony minerality adding complexity. On the dry, medium-full bodied palate it has a lovely earthy mineral, pear, apple, and spice flavours which are supported by well-balanced acidity. It's nicely textured with delicious pear and apple notes lingering on the long, balanced finish.

This has a gorgeous, fragrant, medium-high to highly aromatic nose of dark purple fruit, black fruit, violet, and blackberry aromas joined by peppery herbs and oak spice nuances. It's medium-full bodied with very good concentration and lovely, dark fruited aroma replays joined by saline, dark plum, and mineral notes. It has very good, fresh acidity that lifts the palate, and is supported by fine-grained tannins with good structure. Stony minerality and savoury notes linger on the youthful finish, with excellent length. Enjoy to at least the end of the decade.

Serious stuff - quite dense, powerful, and smoky. Plenty of ripe dark fruit, black olive tapenade, roasted figs, and slightly molasses-like notes. Lots of grip and intensity on the palate, where the flavour profile feels a little cooler than on the nose. Really good and potential to improve.

My, oh my !! Tasty juice !! At peak !!
This is a balanced Pinot Noir that I consumed over two days. Cork saturated about half-way up after over a dozen years but easily removed. Deep ruby color with no oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of pomegranate and caramel, flavors of sweet cranberry, cherry, rhubarb, and forest floor with a pleasant medium to long finish. This wine really held in there and had not fallen apart on day two. Great fruit with firm acidity made into a very balanced Pinot Noir from the Taboni vineyard, a small 15-acre Pinot Noir vineyard near the intersection of Olivet Lane and River Road, in the heart of Russian River Valley. A beautifully sloped vineyard with great loamy clay and mineral soil planted to Dijon 115, 667, 777, and Pommard 5 clones. This Pinot Noir is a surprisingly age worthy wine and has more years of life left. I still have three more bottles of this vintage remaining in my cellar; I may open one in the next few months or so to verify my rating.

Opened for 3.5 hours. Color is ruby. On the nose: Cherry, strawberry, some barnyard funk, a bit of cranberry and forest floor. Quite a Burgundian nose. On the palate: Tart cherry, cranberry, soft tannins, a bit of bacon fat and funk which is odd but interesting. Nice mouthfeel: soft and sensuous. Classic and elegant Pinot Noir.

Decanted an hour and drunk over the following three hours. Deep ruby. dark fruit, lightening to dark red fruit with air. Densely silky, harmonious and perhaps the most complete and constant of the three, but lacking the spark and energy of the Simonsig. Lovely wine though and a testament to the ageability and quality of SA syrah from this period, despite the subsequent huge investments in vineyard and winery through the region. ****

As I said in my previous note, this is a shy wine. Medium to medium minus aromatics, medium minus acidity, medium minus tannins. To be fair, I decanted it and started dinner quickly, and I will taste again after I leave the wine stoppered at cellar temperature. Tonight I probably would have called it Malbec in a blind tasting because it has a Bordeaux variety character, but fairly non-descript. As it opens up there is some pyrizine character but it is subtle. 2018 was a warm vintage in the Loire and it shows.

Lots of saline and sauv blanc character, but rounded with good depth. Lychee, white peach and pineapple on the nose, finishes with citrus and cut grass. This held up extremely well over several days under vacuum seal in the fridge, showing slight riper peach notes on the nose on the final glass. Good potential for future development and excellent QPR.

Decanted an hour and drunk over the following three hours. Deep ruby, perhaps a fraction lighter than the other two. Deep blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, lightening to raspberry and boysenberry with air. Nose complex and changing, though seems to settle on a very pronounced fresh pipe tobacco. Nicely fresh and bright, increasingly silky with good acidity and lots of energy. Perhaps not quite as smooth as the other two, but the most characterful, and my favourite. ****

Pours a nice fair dark ruby with maybe the slightest amount of bricking. The nose beckons with plum, cocoa, tobacco, herbs and soil. On the palate, wild raspberry joins these notes amidst ample acidity. Quite nice from the PnP, without need for decanting. Have been very satisfied with these inexpensive 2005 Bordeaux reds.

Bottled 9 August 2018, 12.5% ABV. Decanted. Incredibly fresh, youthful and energetic, piercing estery acidity - not unlike a Gueuze from Cantillon, subtle elevage notes (yeast, fresh white almonds), a vertical, linear wine, steel and creamy lemon, tart citrus, fenugreek and salinity, hint of peach, gains ampleur in the decanter, tightly coiled, incredible drive and length on the seemingly endless finish, unripe strawberry, green apple. Like a TGV, just goes on and on. My fourth vintage of this wine - the 2007 and 2016 had identical scores, the 1998 was the odd man out in my lifetime vertical so far.

Still tasting great considering the pedigree. This blend has held up well. At or just past peak !!
I'm surprised no one has written a note for this afterthought of a wine. An homage to the Novitiate property and the Brothers winemaking tradition. Tasted on release and was impressed at the quality for the cost. This solo bottle was just languished in the cellar to be found this week.
Screw top easily removed after over a dozen years in the bottle. Medium honey colored with modest oxidation (as one might expect) and excellent clarity. Aromas and flavors of creamy green apple and lychee. Drink up if you still have any.

After a massive hit of cherries on the nose, black licorice emerges. And bright acid followed by powdery tannins. This wine could benefit from time in the cellar. But with hearty Italian fare, it is just fine to drink right now. If memory serves, I paid about $20. If so, I’ll buy a few more for the short term and maybe two bottles to hide in the cellar for a few years.

Medium garnet
Aromatics medium +. Black plum. Potpourri. Dry wood. Dry earth. Graphite. No new oak.
Palate has a medium + body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium +, medium grained on the teeth and gums. Alcohol medium +. Dried and ripe dark plums, almost a syrup note. Black ash
Finish has a medium + length. Balanced, but tannins still need more integration
Dry glass notes of potpourri.
Well made, dark themed chateauneuf de pape. Just not my favorite style of wine
I would recommend holding next bottle for a few more years to let tannins integrate more

Medium ruby colored with medium viscosity (14.5% ABV). The nose of this Xinomavro, Merlot and Syrah blend has medium (-) intensity aromas of black raspberry, black plum, lilac, mulberry, licorice, coffee, vanilla and bilberry. It's quite an interesting nose that gains some power as it opens. The palate is dry with medium acidity, a full body and medium (+) tannins that are a touch green. Flavors of blackberry, bilberry, black raspberry, plum with coffee, vanilla and a hint of purple licorice are balanced by the firm structure of tannins and acidity. It's a pretty bold wine with nice fruit that lingers on a medium length finish. The tannins are the last to bow out leaving my mouth slightly dried out but wanting more. I am mixing up some Chimmichurri to go with cast-iron prepared Hanger steaks with Korean sweet potatoes and green beans, should work a treat. 92 points from me for this $20 effort makes it a 5 star wine to buy again. Drink till 2028.

Dense, expressive and complex, a great CdP. Very mature blackberries, raspberries, fine leather, plum, chocolate, mokka, contrasted by mint, roast and garrigue notes. Full bodied, multi-facetted, with a charming phenolic and umami finish. Already a treat, and likely to keep the steam for another 5-10 years.
