Very nice typical champagner with great brioche notes!

Pretty pale lemon color. Soft flowers and apples/pears on the nose. Medium acidity, supple mouth feel, lemon zest and then big apple finish, with a slight touch of minerality. Not one for the decades, but a pleasant sipper that won’t break the bank.

It is mind-blowing, showing very concentrated yellow fruits, crisp acidity. The sweetness just keep lifting the floral, peachy notes on nose and palate. Still very youthful, long long way to go

NV - mousse and bead of cremant but not champagne of course - fairly deep yellow gold - apples, pears, fermented straw, rather concentrated, flavors and aromas expected from the Jura. High value in the genre of cremant especially if Jura fruit suits your tastes.

Quel vin que ce toscan! Jamais il ne déçoit et il vieillit tellement bien. Ce 2011 était un nectar des Dieux, carafé 2 heures et dégusté en accompagnement d'un champvallon à l'agneau. Menoum!!

Bone dry, high acidity, mineral over sharp green apples, attractive.

Closer to a Saar riesling than traditional Rheingau

So rich and succulent and cinnamon toast on the front, crisp on the palate.

This had to be flawed. Too much of an oxidized flavor (and aroma) though the color looked sound. If it wasn't flawed, this style of Chablis is not to my liking.

Vanilla and cream on the nose. Lemon curd and good richness across the palate. Delightful, powerful.

Aromas of cherry, raspberry, spice, vanilla, tobacco. Wine is dry, full bodied with medium+ acidity and fine tannins. Taste of cherry, plum, vanilla, oak. Long finish. Well done.

I believe this wine received about a 2 hour Slo-O.

This was in a blind line up of some very prestigious 2019 Napa reds (and one 2016 thrown in), specifically:

2019 MacDonald
2019 Kinsman Eades La Voleuse Du Chagrin
2019 Kinsman Eades Anjea Sleeping Lady Vineyard
2019 Colgin Tychson Hill
2019 Realm Absurd
2019 Scarecrow
2019 Harlan
2019 Myriad Elysian
2019 La Pelle Res
2019 Magnificent 7
2019 Cliff Lede Songbook
2016 Colgin Tychson Hill

2016 Colgin Tychson Hill - I believe this wine benefitted from the additional three years of bottle age. My notes were the wine was elegant, silky and easy to drink. It was fruit forward (red and dark) and balanced. Seemed slightly angular at this stage and will definitely benefit from some additional age. Solid 96 today (out of 98) but should gain points with more age.

Smelling great and beautiful this year. Really crisp on the palate and tightly nit. Great vivacity.

Good, but not interesting. Mainly ripe red fruit, A little bit hot (not surprising given 15.8 alcohol). Slightly sweet.

The densest and most concentrated Amarone I’ve tried, but so is the monumental tannic structure. They green harvest twice, takes 6-7 vines to make a single bottle. Blend of 55% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, 15% Croatina, 10% Oseleta & 5% Corvinone, 70-90 days of drying, 24 months in new US oak. Explosive intensity of kirsch, chocolate, liquorice, roasted herbal, prunes, potpourri, cigar box. Full body, dense and opulent but lighter than 2016, explosive and multidimensional, mid light acidity, sandy high grip tannins.

The densest and most concentrated Amarone I’ve tried, no doubt in that, but so is the monumental tannic structure. They green harvest twice, takes 6-7 vines to make a single bottle. Blend of 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 10% Croatina and 10% Oseleta, 70-90 days of drying, 24 months in new 50% FR, 50% US oak. Explosive intensity aroma of dried violet petals, kirsch, potpourri, sweet tobacco, leather, soy sauce. Full body, dense & concentrated, oaky, high tight & firm tannins, explosive depth, endless finish.

One of a kind Valpolicella Superiore where most Amarones falling behind for its power, concentration & most importantly balance. Blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 5% Croatina & 5% Oseleta which were dried for 25-45 days, aged in new 70% FR and 30% US barrels for 24 months. Intense aroma of kirsch, licorice, leather, chocolate, prunes, herbs, tar. Full body, concentrated but more restrained than their Amarone. Flavours of dried fruit dipped in chocolate, rum then spiced and smoked, high tannins, long finish.

Light youthful color with a abundance of dried stone fruit and floral elements in the bouquet. Lovely and elegant. Typical viognier richness on the palate along with white peach, apple and mineral flavors. Well-balanced. A terrific example of the variety.

First thing that hit me on the nose was that coconut note that I found in this year's Passetoutgrain from Lan Seqqua, but more muted here. I'm pretty sure there's new oak here, as with the Lan Seqqua, and that's in part what's producing this particular note. Having said this, I do wonder what kind of oak is being used here, because it tastes neither American nor French. I know there are producers in Japan that use Hungarian oak but in my experience that's even less intrusive than the former two types.

Now, on to the palate - first thing that hit me here was the acidity. I suppose it's not unusual that merlot from Mikasa in Hokkaido would have a ton more acidity than, say, the right bank but even then this was pushing it. Teetering on the edge of being balanced. At 12% ABV, I'm guessing the grapes weren't quite fully ripe and the tannins do feel a little green/stalky.

There's also a bitter, graphite finish that points towards Bordeaux and a surprising amount of intensity and concentration. The vines are 19 years old and some of the oldest vinifera I've heard of for this area.

Overall a perplexing wine, but fascinating to study. Almost makes me wonder if this is the profile people are referring to when they say that "Bordeaux used to be 12% ABV".

Nose: Butter, stone fruit and some flinty minerals.

Palate: Stone fruit, lemon rind, hint of tropical fruit, flinty minerals and butter. Medium plus acidity and long almond finish.

It feels on the classical side in terms of wood usage, the butter and mouthfeel are quite full. But it has some great acidity to keep it in check. There is some nice flinty minerality as well, but it is still on the lighter side not reductive. Enjoyable and complex wine no complaints here.

Last bottle of a case for me, and first bottle in 5 years. The wine is still fully intact an tasting similarly to as it has for the last decade. Still plenty of tannins and acid holding it all together, but the fruit has began to fade to the background and the acid is not as vibrant as it once was. All the horseyness is still present, as you may expect, though. So since the fruit and acid faded, it's not nearly as interesting or integrated as it was in its youth.

very light color with no red hues, a very fine mousse. on the nose very chalky chardonnay in nature, ripe chablis kind of nose. low to moderate lees... very little background funk, quite clean. on the palate high acids, some creaminess on the midpalate, finishes quite dry and clean, low alcohol. balanced wine with good length, very good intensity, ok complexity. wine has a ton of finesse, a very fine texture, and expresses cool climate, not champagne sparkler very well. i really liked this... don't think you would mistake it for champagne (not earthy/autolytic enough)... don't think you'd call it new world chamnpagne method sparkler either (lacks that phenolic fast malic acid drop too warm thing). drink now and over the next couple years. clean, focused, cool climate, chalky chard sparkler.

I'm not sure what to make of this...

I first had this wine last year in Hokkaido and absolutely loved it. At that time I did feel like there was a slight 'coconutiness' that I found absolutely enthralling.

This particular vintage appears to have taken that 'coconutiness' and pushed it over the edge.

The bones of the great wine are here - nice juicy acidity, good concentration of fruit, well-integrated tannins, and aromatic complexity from the blend of pinot and zweigelt - but I just couldn't get over the odd, resinous, hickory oak chip vibe that persisted even three days after popping this open.

Maybe this is a wine made to age, or maybe I got a faulty bottle, but either ways I couldn't bring myself to like this.

Drinking very well. A lot of wines on the table, so that meant this got to warm up a bit. It met the test of being good as it warmed as well as good when served up cold. Cheers!

On the nose, rich round and sweet dried cherries, figs and plums, with some wild strawberries and what I imagine a boysenberry to smell like (basically something between blackberry and raspberry?). Lovely liquorice, tobacco, clove and a touch of leather and cedar add complexity, as well as dried herbs something that smells like a particularly floral tea.

Similar notes in the mouth (though the fruit takes on a much figgier quality, in an enjoyable way), with a finish that far outlasts the temptation to have another sip. I really loved this.

I saved a little in the fridge but couldn't get to it the next day, and sadly on day 3 this had lost a lot of it's joy. NB some sediment snuck into that last glass too!

Spicy, peppery fruit forward nose, with a touch of sweet oak; soft, tangy, fruit forward in the mouth, with more of that spicy, peppery cab franc influence leading into a nice fruity, peppery finish, balanced by smooth tannins. An easy-drinking sipper, and even better with the right food - it went really well with wife's Mexican-style cheesy chicken, beans and rice dish.

Expressive Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from the steep gravelly soils around the Mockhof estate (located at an altitude of 500 meters in the Eisack Valley, South Tyrol). Color: pale green-yellow with silver reflections. Nose: convincing bouquet with pronounced aromas of elderberry, peach, grapefruit, dried herbs and a hint of flint. On the palate: a well-balanced medium-bodied wine dominated by lush gooseberry and citrus fruit and supported by a crisp acid structure. Finish: persistent herbaceous aftertaste with an agreeable touch of bitterness. Food pairing: an ideal partner for all kinds of fish and asparagus dishes. Drinking window: now–2026.

extremely deep color, ruby to purple rim. on the nose, earthy and slighty rustic classic bordeaux aromas of cab and merlot. on the palate high acids, moderate midpalate depth, tannins are integrating and present, moderate alcohol. wine has balance, good length, very good intensity. there is finesse, a really fine tecture, excellent expression of place. this bottle felt a bit more evolved than the last one... certainly in the drinking window with a couple hours in the decanter. very nice wine.
