I was concerned opening this bottle after seeing 2 "flawed bottle" reviews. Luckily my bottle was perfect. Fruit has subsided but still a very enjoyable bottle of wine.

Nose is dark fruit.
Palate dark and red fruits, med- to full body, lots of luscious dark fruit. Medium to long finish. Lovely with pizza and salad.

Took about 45 minutes decanted to bring out the full flavor. Be patient and don’t drink it until then

2 hour decant

Phenomenal wine.

Doesn’t need a lot of coaxing or massaging. Tasted very good at the 1 hour decant mark… tasted even better at 2 hours.

As good or better than some of the best ‘16 Brunellos I have tried.

Beautiful fruit ball, moderate acidity, moderate tannins.

Flavor does a gymnastic floor exercise as you swirl, sip, wash over your tongue, and then swallow. So much going on here. The finish is sublime.

Sangiovese flexing hard. Love it.

Healthy young colour. Surprising nose, doesn't rign a bell Chianti-wise for me. A bit medicinal, dark fruit, old wood, leather, a hint of alcohol. Slightly astringent taste, tannins not fully resolved, fairly high acidity. I'll let the 5 other bottles sit at least another year to mellow.

Drank in Cafe Carducci Verona for EUR 49! Last bottle remaining. Manager was impressed I found it on their thick wine menu, and our lovely waitress/somm took a picture for her Instagram before opening.

Fill level, color = perfect. Cork = perfect condition. Was stored perfectly over the years.

Short note to inform others that despite being ~25 yrs of age, the bottle was still in great condition. Started out a bit restrained with classical old Sangio notes - dried and very evolved violets, cherry petals like poutpourri, mushroomy notes. Still good, but thought it was at the end of its life. But boy was I wrong. Grew over the hour - so still somehow alive? Pretty bouquet of very evolved violets, dried cherry petals, dried mushrooms; hint of beautiful sweetness of anise/cedar/sandalwood at the end. Great bottle, great price, great find!

This is a stellar example of young Chianti at its best. It pours a deep, inviting ruby, with an aroma rich in black cherries and damsons, accented by a touch of oak and earthiness. Not completely typical of Chianti Classico. However a superbly balanced rascal.

The palate is a journey through Tuscany's heart, where ripe brambles, cherries and blackberries meet hints of tobacco and a smoky whisper, giving a fine nod to the time it spent in oak barrels. This vintage currently displays a vibrant, albeit overpowering young fruitiness. The tannins, though prominent only if you really look for them, are well-crafted. Elegance and complexity are woven throughout, with a finish that lingers gracefully.

This wine promises a beautiful evolution over the next 15 years or more. While enjoyable now for its fruity and youthful character, patience will unveil its full potential, transforming it from a delightful drink to a profound experience.

Under pristine cork. Decanted. Medium dark ruby red starting on its journey to garnetville. Quite ripe and meaty on the nose. Lots of black and red dried fruits, mostly black cherry, stone dust, old leather, camphor, and an underlying earthy / meaty note. Smells very good in fact! Clearly starting to show some age! Very smooth, satiny tannins, great balance, medium-full bodied. Sweet and riper / younger black fruits on the palate than the nose would suggest. Much fruitier in fact! Also notes of charred oak, leather, chalky minerals, and light mulch. The front end is all fruit but the back end is all structure and minerals. Quite complex. Finishes long and very dry with mix of fruit and mineral replays. A fairly serious and structured wine but very nice and a solid 92 points.

This has some red fruity warm feel to it and is well balanced and integrated. I think it is a bit pricy though.

Plot-based, the aging of this 100% Sangiovese lasted 12 months and was done in Hungarian and French oak barrels. Then the different lots were assembled and bottled at the Badia a Passignano estate. The wine was decanted for an hour then it evolved very favorably throughout the dinner. It really reached its peak at noon the next day where it was simply delicious. The posh nose expresses perfumes of morello cherries, strawberries, leather, tobacco, a tiny licorice, a dash of vanilla, on an upper-class background of cedar wood. It feels like a gentlemen's english club. Medium+ bodied, the palate offers an interesting depth and a smooth, wonderfully velvety texture, with flavors of bright berry fruits, black tea, leather, balsamic (this is much more present than on the nose) and some nuances of oriental spices. It finishes quite long, juicy and energetic, revealing notes of licorice, espresso and a bit of wood. Very, very good! I bet that the oak will manage to blend in even more, so I'll revisit it in 2 or 3 years.

Decanted. Medium dark mulberry purple. Dusty red fruit, mulch, stone dust and light licorice root on the nose. Very smooth and nicely integrated. Medium bodied, tangy fruit, light tannin, very dry finish. Cool, lean, crisp red and black fruit on the palate, brisk acidity, slightly astringent, some leather, iron and squeeky tannins. A bit linear and lean this time around. Only 89 points

Fabesmontreal has written a good note on 18 February 2023. It surely is a gastronomic wine. Still a bit nervous, it will need some time to settle down. I never understood 'pairing well with pasta', as there are so many ways to prepare pasta: with salmon, truffels, carbonara, etc. My pairing (at this age) would be fiorentina (from DarioCecchini.com).

Darker side of Sangiovese, with wild herbs and sweet spice from the oak. Relatively complex, but the (dark) fruit is a little drying. Drink now.

One of my favorite Chiantis. The ‘17 edition came about during a somewhat challenging vintage for growers in Chianti. The result is a more fruit forward Passignano than I usually get from this producer with a darker fruit profile than most chiantis. Lovely nose with cassis, dark cherries, a hint of strawberry against a mild backdrop of warm moss. The palate matches the nose; the fruit feels ripe but nicely balanced against medium acidity and creates a great texture and highly enjoyable wine. The wine was decanted to rid of a small amount of sediment in the bottle and drank about an hour later. Super effort, but not one for the long haul.

Decanted an hour.

Cigar humidor, black cherry, clove, slightly floral, dried mushroom, plum.

Paired well with fresh Pappardelle & a simple meat sauce.

Not a great deal to add to 2021 note, although I went for medium ruby before looking at the previous comments!
I don’t believe that it’s improved and see that Decanter & RP predict 2032-2035 longevity.
Nine left so we will see, certainly I would still predict 5 years or so.

Ruby morphing into garnet.
Dark fruits, not getting much oak although I see others are.
Some experts arguing drink by 2025 (JR) others 2030(RP)
I would probably split the difference and say 4/5 years!
Still very enjoyable.

My final bottle of this vintage and I enjoyed them all! Part of a Sangiovese night at a high end Italian restaurant in NYC. This is such a food friendly wine with a palate cleansing acidity. Thankfully, I have other vintages.

Tasted it at Cantinella Antinori; well developed and balanced, good length; and carries the 15% alcohol quite well. No heat on the palate.
Nicely complex nose.
Quite a Pleasant experience. A modern rendition of Chianti, liked it quite well.

Lovely Sangiovese and quite classic, still a fraction too much oak, but fortunately far less than with their Tignanello. This offers also much better QPR than their Tignanello.

Went in again sans doobie:
- red notes, red cherry
-dark date notes
-vanilla
-seemed like more mid palate on this one
-much less complex minus the dry mouth 🙃
-softer, more forwardly
-clove, can't believe I didn't notice the clove!

- Rich oak and distant dark fruit
- Dark toasty oak points
- dusty walnut and dark, dark red fruit
- detecting just a squeak of date
-balaced, just a smidge forward by way of fruit
-mild acid and tannins,just present
-tannins seem tame for a 2019
- drinks bold and robust, yet firm and almost light on the mid palette
- maybe some smoke, was that cigar?
- narrow chocolate finish with those dry walnuts once again
-drinks much like a Brunello.
👍

Solid effort. Drinking well and lots of life left. Decant changes the outlook. At the onset it’s classic dusty cherries but after it blows over it really becomes more focused on tomato vine and stewed tomatoes with hints of spice and floral notes. Green herbs all around. There’s a fair bit of grip on in the palate but it smoothes out for the finish. Not sure there’s much improvement but it’s a good QPR you can drink now or lie down for another 3-7 years. Excellent with pasta. 92.

Delicious, delicious, delicious! I had no idea that 22 years old Chianti could be still alive and well.
Sweet aromas of black cherry, plum, milk chocolate, but also cedar, tobacco, and flowers. All aromas are soft, but easily detect and in perfect balance.
Milky texture!
Let me emphasize very important thing: acidity and tannins are in full harmony between each other and between flavors! They are soft but visible ( mostly in the end). Flavors: milk chocolate, plum, blackberry, coffee ( wow!), black cherry.
Hello wine! Give me some spice and I will give you 5.0.
As you see the taste is on sweet side, but is not overloaded, because all fruits are fresh and juicy.
Finish - medium with nice red fruits.

Did I say that the wine is delicious?

A wonderful wine to pair with my spaghetti and meat sauce last night and a great purchase at only $30. 100% Sangiovese. Fresh luscious red cherry, a nice level of light new leather, Tuscan dust, herbs and violets. Drinking wonderfully but definitely has good aging potential.

This hasn't budged much since my last note in 2020. Fine. moderately dandy. Sufficient. Nonpartisan. .....S'ok and all.

Decanting for a few hours helped relax the dryyyy finish into a less Atacama salivary suck. Stayed thinner mid-palate, with a strict expansion (or rather, non-expansion) of fruit. It's not my enemy or anything, but I think I just nodded off momentarily as I was trying to listen to whatever story it struggled to tell me.

Holding for a few years here for tertiary flavors to develop would imply there were flavors waiting in the wings in the first place. Not so sure at this point if hanging fire is the answer here.

A wine of great poise and elegance it’s wonderful how all the elements of the wine are interwoven providing such satisfaction. It’s not a muscular powerhouse more of an intellectual wine that captivates and engages one’s senses. There’s an energetic acidity holding everything together with savoury and herbaceous flavours and ripe fruits. Impeccably balanced a major triumph and a wine that gets you talking .Decanted two hours beforehand with an aerator. Ready to drink.

Color: Medium ruby. Nose: Red fruit, cherries, pomegranate, reminds me of warm sweet pastry filled with delicious fruit. Something slightly floral, too. Excellent! Mouth: Excellent expressiveness and length. Excellent tannins and acidity which contributes to the excellent mouthfeel that can only described as silky. Can be enjoyed now or stored for many years.
