Sitting in a box in my basement since delivery. "dark" brooding aromatics of black cherry, cola, damp oak and spices. Soft mouthfeel. Palate elevation and coating. This is a very interesting wine that i love. I need to wait 5 years before opening my last bottle. I think this might be spectacular then.

Pulled the cork 2hrs before dinner of mushroom risotto and was singing! Signature Aubert fruit, acid, tannin but beware the 15.3% alcohol will sneak up on you but is not noticeable. The wine is in fabulous balance. Not near peak, drink or hold.
Red
Pale ruby color. Pronounced aromas of cherry, blueberries, dried herbs, baking spices. High acidity, soft tannins, medium to high alcohol (but not hot, except for maybe that spiciness) and body. Pronounced flavors of tart red cherries, dried herbs, blueberries and baking spice. Long finish.

This was absolutely lovely in the purist sense of Pinot, with a field of strawberries on the nose and palate immediately out of the bottle. This was decanted for a couple of hours, which helped it to bring out some lovely herbal notes, but overall this was ready to go. Did well with the crowd but definitely overshadowed by the 2006 Sloan and 1986 Montrose.

Very interesting. Bottle opened 2 days ago and closed with cork only. Deep garnet color. Strawberry, kirsch, dried flowers on nose. Rich mouth feel. I really like it. Likely needs tons of decant to enjoy now. I think this might be spectacular 5 years from now. Jenna 94-96.

This was a very nice but perplexing wine. I have had several Aubert Pinots from multiple vintages. This was somewhat confounding. Absolutely nothing wrong with this bottle but seemed somewhat muted compared to other bottles. Most have been quite distinctive and made in an old world style. This was heavier, earthier, more fruit forward with an emphasis on darker fruits, blackberry, plum and cassis. Very smooth, more full bodied than other Aubert offerings. A great accompaniment to New Years Day traditional ham and hoppin john dinner.

ABSOLUTELY the best California pinot noir I have ever tasted! We decanted it, let it sit undisturbed for at least an hour and tasted. We were blown away by its deep color, its fragrance and its purity of flavors and lack of any competing tastes except for the fruit. We have cellared this wine since it arrived in our home in 2018. Enjoy it now if you have some, but I'm confident it will last several more years.

Similar to my notes of last summer. This is an awesome bottle of pinot noir. Red fruit on the nose, the palate is a medley of raspberry, black cherry, strawberry, plums and cranberry swirling over your taste buds leading to a smooth, long, lingering finish

Dark red fruit, took a bit to blow off the bad breadth. Developed nicely, reminiscent of Vosne-Romanee Burgundy. Probably better a few years ago but still delicious. Let it breathe for 2 hours, no more.

What a difference from the last bottle (which I'm now thinking might have been off somehow). Beautiful from the first sip and got better from there. Well-balanced with distinct but complementary layers of fruit and nice acidity. Tannins nicely resolved, and no astringency as I found with the earlier bottle. A real pleasure.

Quick tasting note today. This is an aromatic, highly concentrated wine despite being visually less saturated. But my word is it hot. The high alcohol brings a ton of aromaticity but feels spiky when you drink it.

I like the wine, but now I'm stumbling around my kitchen. I would have preferred something more restrained than a 15-handle.

A 69 from Dr. roux??? Are you kidding?

Cherry, cola, spice, and expensive fresh oak. Huge alcohol and heavy tannin. Some earthiness an hour after opening.

This is not a delicate wine, but one that stands up to or even requires food. Unlike other Aubert offerings we’ve had so far, though this may just be in an awkward phase in its life.

7.5/10

lavender, vanilla, anise, dark berries, blackberry, licorice. The most powerful and in your face flavor forward of the trio. Alcohol is felt at 15.3, but everything is full throttled with this wine.

Super complex aroma - deep and intense red berries, earth, herbs, dried flowers. Smells amazing.

Smooth, fruity red fruit flavor with a long tea-like finish. Wide, expansive flavor that fills the palette. Lots of complexity and minerality. Well balanced. Powerful.

Opened up nicely after a 1 hour decant but better around hours 2-3. Outstanding Pinot Noir! Drink or hold.

very CA expression of pinot, as always with Aubert. some secondary characteristics coming through - a bit of damp earth and funk with the cranberry notes. this was eclipsed by a altesino brunello the evening we had this

Initial funk on the nose with lovely cherry color and fruity tartness. Lovely as a complement to rosemary lamb chops. Tons of nuance and a long finish.

Decanted 30 minutes before service - 60-90 minutes would have been preferable. In the glass, raspberry-pink at the rim, shading gradually to deep dark red at the center. On the nose, strawberries, nutmeg, and cherries. On the palate, a core of silky, pure fruit and elegant aromatics, first masked by volatile acidity which took the better part of an hour to dissipate, and then by the heaviness of the 15.3% alcohol. A very nice wine, but there was lost potential here.

15.3% abv. Dark clear garnet color. Nose became more closed over 1.5 hrs open, but still seductive and full of dark fruit. Wine needed 20 min for alc to blow off after opening, after that, it transformed into velvety smooth, sweet, rich, full bodied Pinot. Viscous, clear legs, threw some sediment. Finish is quite exotic, lasts a full minute. Under exceptional storage conditions I would definitely drink within 5 years - for my cellar this is at peak.

Enjoyed this at home on movie night. in a good spot with good fruit and structure with the tannins mellowed and no unpleasantly noticeable alcohol which I sometimes get with the Aubert PNs.

Tannins integrated and medium acidity. I got raspberries, strawberry and blueberries with the fruit having a bit of a candied characteristic. Definitely new world with no noticeable funk / savory element other than a hint of spice...maybe that will come with time. You can feel the 15.3% alcohol after a couple of glasses, but the wine carries it ok and it's not overpowering / off putting in the drinking of it.

Great pinot. Probably the best aubert ive had. Layers and layers of rich fruit (raspberry, strawberry, cranberry), yet maintains freshness and a lightness, which takes this to another level.

Sensational wine. Great depth, complexity and finish.
Rhubarb, raspberry tones with great acidity structure and long textured and layered finish. First class wine

Decanted 90 minutes. Medium ruby color, medium aroma intensity. Some floral violet notes. Tons of primary fruit aromas - raspberry and cherry especially, but also a little strawberry and cranberry. Subtle secondary oak notes of baking spice. Tertiary aromas and flavors developing - forest floor and earth. Medium+ acid (maybe higher actually), medium body, medium minus tannin. Medium + finish. I think this would benefit from another couple of years for more tertiary flavors and aromas to balance the beautiful fruit. Another beautiful Aubert wine.

May be my expectation was set too high. The first 3/4 bottle, drank over the two nights, after decanting still hit me a surprise fruit bomb. Only the last 1/4 bottle at the end of the second evening did it climb back up, though still not nearly as good as I had hoped.

Great fruit flavors with some spice. This wine is so good I have a hard time describing it. Let's just say its among the very best California pinot noirs we've tasted. Decanted to get it open. Found no solid. Plenty of life in this one.

Expressive, bright red cherry fruit with hints of strawberry and spice on the finish. In typical Aubert fashion, this is very well made, delicious, long on the finish and requires at least a 30 minute decant.

Perfect stage now. Opened well after 1 hour. Still some floral bouquet on the nose and deep current with raspberry and chocolate on the front pallet. Just a hint of earth and rosemary on the secondary pallet and back nose. Tannins are well integrated now. Will be curious to see how the 750ml compares to this magnum.

Dinner at Nico Osteria (Nico Osteria, Chicago IL): This is a much bigger nose than I would expect given the vintage (I know, it is Aubert). There is a bit of intensity to the tones of plums, raspberries, cola, candied red cherries, red currants, licorice, and violets. The Full bodied feel is a bit clunky and rough around the edges with medium- acidity and stiff, medium+ tannins. This could likely benefit from a few more years to hopefully smooth out some rough edges, but this is a bit laboring and hulking.

CG Lacks complexity and any one just amazing trait. Good structure, typical Napa Pinot, red raspberry/strawberry nose. Tannins still not fully integrated but smooth. No old world burg charm I look for but my need to develop longer.

This is certainly not a subtle pinot noir and will most definitely be polarizing at this stage of its development. Rich, dense, almost chewy in texture. Mouthful of deeply concentrated but very plush fruit. This would go fantastic with duck or a double cut pork chop.

I dranked many Pinots including Burgundys and this was the most plush one out of all of them! By far!! Amazing. 3h slow ox and the wine was delightful. Soft and velvety tannins, a ton of cassis witch I love and rarely find in Pinots and the longest and purest of finish. Amazing!

Wild red raspberry, dense, rich with distinct notes of forest floor, sage and rosemary. Amazingly fresh for a domestic Pinot noir that has seven plus years in the bottle. Very well made.
