This was lovely. Best, I think, on Day 3. It was a little jammy at first, but opened with air and the previous tasting notes are spot on - Redwoods, mushrooms, tree sap. This is the foresty side of the Sonoma Coast. Makes me think of Occidental and the redwood forests surrounding the town. Perfect pairing for roast chicken with mushrooms and chive oil.

Needs 45 to come alive (mins.) Elegant and Feminine, Meaty pinot fruit, Ripe with spicy summer brambles, red fruited with blood orange, Alcohol, woodsy herbals, hints baking spice. Palate of Strawberry/ rhubarb hints of black raspberry, finishing with tart minerality. Try with Foie Gras confit if your politicians haven’t banned it or Blanquette de Veau. May need a couple more years to flesh out further. 2018 seemed more giving at this point 4 years on. Purchased vineyard direct upon release and stored accordingly...Na zdrowie

Herbaceous nose. It is full bodied and bold while still maintaining an elegance. Bing cherry, black pepper, no rough edges.

Pop and pour. Medium-deep ruby color. Aromas of cherries and cranberry juice. Medium body with medium acid and light tannins. Wonderful red fruit on the palate with juicy red cherries, cranberry juice that was thick but not quite to the point of jammy. Great example of California style of pinot.

Recently met with owner/wine maker in Occidental tasting through 6 wines. All of Kurt’s pinots were Pure, Balanced, Cool and showing predominantly Red Fruit profiles. For my palate this was by far the standout. Nose Strawberry dominated, with hint of rhubarb, duck blood, tart cherry and hint of charcuterie smoke. Palate red fruited with a juxtaposition borderline between sapidity and creaminess, Umami! supportive tannins and good acidity, Blood Orange, hints of salinity. Alc. 13.7% yet no sense of heat. No fining/filtering, Indigenous yeast, 20-30% new oak based on harvest, 25% +/- whole cluster, Low yielding site due to poor soil, 244 cases produced… Na zdrowie

Pop and pour and enjoyed with food (a Kali Blend Flannery beef burger with roasted Brussel sprouts, in case you were wondering).
Ruby-purple color.
Nose offers dark fruits of blackberries and hint of spice.
Good richness of fruit balanced by sufficient acidity to keep the fruit in check.
Enjoyable.

I was transported to the forest floor where the redwoods tower and the mushrooms mush and the sea breezes dampen the pine leaves, the moist soil lays its fine scent in my nose. This was fun.

Popped and poured into Grassl 1855s. Followed over 4 hours.

Fantastic nose of pine, sea spray, salt, rocks, red fruit, mushroom and forest floor. The mid-weight palate has terrific acidity and restrained red lithe fruit concentration. Medium tannin supports the whole symphony. It finishes long, savory, and delicious. Very thought-provoking. If this is what these wines evolve to at 13 years, I'm not touching any for a long time. Wow.

Third bottle of this wine in 3 years, with noticeable improvement compared to when I first tasted this wine. Red fruit aromas with light florals/rose. Tastes fruit forward with juicy medium red berries/cherry (no purple notes). The other components have integrated a bit with time but still vibrant acidity with silky texture and delicious.

This was really singing. To my taste absolutely ready to roll. Balanced, good fruit, developed flavors. Disappeared quite quickly.

Very expressive. The last time I had this wine I thought the fruit showed more on the cranberry/pomegranate spectrum of red fruit, but today the fruit is deeper red, cherry/raspberries. I really enjoyed the silky texture and the bright acidity.

Dark juicy cherry fruit with a fine acidity. It is a little bit dense and needs a little time to open up. Perhaps lacks a bit of freshness and balance but otherwise a nice wine.

Served blind. I couldn't pin this one down to save me. Wild, complex nose. Came off as mature with a maple sort of note. A whiff of wood. Big, juicy palate. Tannic grip and clean but then sort of a late bite on the back of the palate. Strong cherry note and sort of a background of reduction. This was quite enjoyable in the way some of the better wines from the southern parts of France and Italy can be. Where you're not sure what's in there but you are enjoying the ride.

Blind Wines In The OC (The Winery Restaurant in Newport Beach, CA (The OC)): Poured blind. Fragrant, expressive and a touch jammy in the aromatic. Black cherry, blueberry skin, and with 30% whole cluster from what Viet told us. Very good.

Deep in color, rich on the nose, this wine really shows it’s stem inclusion (~30%), which Kurt uses to add complexity to the tannic structure. The California Bay is obvious, which balances the dark cherry, cranberry, and deep minerality. Love it!

Opened for a few hours. Pomegranate, cherry and nice acidity. Some spice to round it out but I found the fruit pretty big and there. Needs time to mellow out.

Deep dark red fruit accented with some pretty crushed rose petals. Then the spice kicks in with a fair bit of acidity which tastes of pomegranate and cranberry. Nice silky texture. Firm structure. Dry but there's just the smallest hint of toffee in the finish to me. Offering great pleasure right now but would be nice to revisit in a few years.

Well rounded Spicy finish, narrow and complex, well structured

Good and interesting bottle. On open it was dominated by an Earl Grey tea flavor. After a half hour it suddenly bloomed with the fruit replacing the tea flavors. Decent level of complexity, smooth fruit and ready to drink. Nice QPR for single vineyard Sonoma Coast.

Mouth - soft cherry fruits, tart cherry, smooth, nice acidity, very well balanced and round on the palate.

A bit muted on the nose. Possible due to being opened a week after shipping.

Great structure; was expecting more fruit. For the price, I was expecting a bit more explosiveness.

Alluring nose of black raspberry, Xmas spice, orange peel, dark forest floor, an interesting ferrous, roasting coffee note and a touch of game. Round but airy in the mouth. There is a brilliant mineral edge and lots of spicy clove. Minerals fill the finish, along with fresh berry fruit, a floral note and spicy white herb. Like many 2007 Pinots, this is still a little clenched. Serious stuff. Will be fabulous in 2-3 years.

Notes from RRV Barrel Tasting 2010: Next to the Taylor Lane vineyard pinot this is a bit darker in color, which also describes the palate, a bit softer as well. There is good depth, nice acidity, a touch of orange peel for interest. Very nice Pinot.

I have a few theories about this wine but the bottom line is that I think this should have been declassified. The alcohol -- 15.5% (!) -- juts out, especially upon opening. The oak isn't too forward except that the fruit just doesn't stand up to it and the whole thing is disjointed. Even when it is clicking better, like now after 90 minutes in the decanter, it tastes like a bastard child of ripe Grenache and an actual Pinot. This is from a cool climate site. The candied strawberry and tea flavors are not offensive. Paying $50 for this is. A shame, since the Boheme Syrahs have been nothing short of spectacular.
